Threatening reach vs zones / auras

4th Edition

I'm trying to consider a character who has access to Threatening Reach. According to the wikia on dnd4e, this is supposed to be a nasty thing. I'm wondering how bad it is. The wikia says it can be hard to get close to a character who has this, but I don't see it as being any worse that approaching a character inside a zone that does damage to all who enter since it's just an attack of opportunity (unless you have something cool that way) and only when you do something to provoke it, leading to you doing 1[W]+Strength damage even if it hits (compared to some zones where the hit is automatic). Threatening reach only triggers once per round, only on one target. Zones hit ALL baddies that enter the area involved. Am I missing something or are zones and auras better?
