Ki Metabolism and a Nappy Nap during the day

It seems like the Ki Metabolism should be something of a game changer for an Unchained Monk. Assuming her crew was okay with stopping for a couple of hours if needed, it SHOULD allow an Unchained Monk a lot more flexibility in her abilities, particularly Ki Guardian and Insightful Wisdom. The conversation I imagine in my head is this:

"Hey, guys... you know how I just spent half my key getting everyone to dodge that Ballista Bolt trap? I think I need to lay down for a little bit, if that's okay."

"Well, given that we are now ALIVE, sure."

I don't see much talk of that, though. Realistically, is that too much to ask?

I don't think it works by RAW:

"The ki pool is replenished each morning after 8 hours of rest or meditation; these hours do not need to be consecutive."

Even without special abilities, this limits you to one replenishment per day (in the morning) -- so you couldn't take an eight hour nap and wake at 8pm with more ki.

I don't see anything in the ki metabolism ability that alters this limitation.

It's right there:

"needs only 2 hours of sleep each night (including to replenish his ki pool)"

The "night" part is obviously fluff - if you play a vampire monk, you'd probably sleep during the day.

That being said, I'd probably allow. The whole point of ki metabolism is faster attuning rate.

I don't see anything about that that means you can sleep multiple times "each night."

In fact, I see exactly the opposite (since "each" is singular) -- you still only get to replenish once per 24 hour period.

Shrug, it's probably the same idea here than adventuring for 4 hours, surviving a grueling encounter and making a camp even if 24 hours haven't gone by.

So I swear there's a FAQ somewhere that says that you can only regain class features by sleeping once every 24 hours. Because that effect doesn't look any different than a Ring of Sustenance, which would allow the wizard and every spontaneous caster to do the same thing. Well, and every other class with a limited daily resource. Hopefully someone who's better at searching Paizo's terrible, terrible FAQ system could find it.

I went looking around and found this post...

That's true, for reasons including Rhatahema's solid evidence. People with a RoS can't rest for 2 hours 12 times and recover 12x their level in hit points and 12 ability damage, after all.

It is specific to the Ring of Sustenance, but that is close enough to display intent, unfortunately.

Monk: "I crawl into my bedroll and go to sleep for two hours."
GM: "You aren't tired. You are unable to find rest and lay awake for two hours, replenishing... nothing. [ooc]Too bad sleeping pills aren't invented in Golarion yet, eh?[/ooc]"

"What do you mean you stock up in Drow Poison?"

You don't need sleep. Rest means doing nothing strenuous.
