Probably a straight upgrade, I looked online but my search-fu failed me. :(

straight upgrade as far as I am aware.

I'll just assume a straight upgrade, thanks! :)

Correct, only the highest of your bonus applies in this case. So if you have purchased chem-use +10 and chem-use +20, your bonus to chem-use rolls is +20.

I think I'd like to play a War Hounds assault marine.

You're welcome to, though that brings us up to three potential assault marine applicants.

Nothing wrong with killing things up close, Dapphon just prefers it when others do the up close killing while he shoots things.

So do we have 2 hth fighters and 2 ranger specialists thus far?

Something like that I think Dapphon is the only finished character though.

I wouldn't say mine is a long-ranged specialist, but instead more of a "right tool for every job" kinda guy. Where "tool" happens to actually mean "weapon".

All I have to say, honestly, is that I'll be carrying a small arsenal of weapons and explosives that should crack any tough shell that needs cracking.

Dapphon definitely is a long range specialist. He has redundancy to allow him to shoot at extreme range without penalty. Which for a stalker boltgun with kraken rounds starts at 900 meters. Or if he uses stalker rounds 600 meters for extreme range but no one can hear the shot. So realistically if he can see it, he can shoot it. His shooting at long range is single shots but with accurate he can get up to 2 extra d10s of damage with a good roll. Against marines you want single large damage hits, armour and toughness bonus soak against each hit.

Did you take a look at the Mk.IX Ultra-Pattern Sharpshooter’s Rifle from Rites of Battle?

I'm not quite sure exactly what the benefits over the Stalker Bolter is, but perhaps you'll be able to tell?

MK IX ultra has three main drawbacks, it doesn't use bolter ammo, it has a clip of 5, and it is an exotic weapon. It also has positives, mainly being longer range and toxic. Felling (1) and the extra dice the stalker do are basically a wash against marines, but marines are hard to poison and with kraken rounds the stalker actually outranges the Mk IX.

Actually, one of the qualities of the sniper rifle make it so that it's a basic Solid Projectile weapon, which means that our Legion Weapon Training gives it to you.
2 req will give you the fire sector, allowing you to effectively triple the capacity of the clip.
Not too sure about specifics against certain enemies, but it's there as an option.

The 0 penetration does hurt, though.

The same 2 req gave me a fire selector on my stalker, and the stalker is 10 req less to get. But you can get the sniper at lower renown. The sniper rifle isn't a bad weapon, I just prefer the stalker given the option.

I started my character, saved his info in an alias. I've done abilities, space marine starting skills, traits and talents.

Still working!

Just checking in to let you know I was still here.

What's the price of upgrading our starting equipment to better quality?
Do we have to pay the full price for both the original, plus the upgrade cost?

If it's one of your free pieces of starting gear, such as your bolt pistol, you only have to pay the upgrade cost. Otherwise you have to pay the cost of both the weapon and its subsequent upgrade.

Another (possibly) dumb question: can we requisition Terminator armor?

If we do, do we start with both sets of power armor?
Just curious.

Edit: never mind, it's not worth it. While it would be cool, it's simply not worth the 100 req you have to pay.

You would also need to possess Terminator Honors (which I would allow at character creation if you decided to invest in First Company Veteran) and at least Famed.

Ah! Didn't even notice that on the table.
Makes my decision easy, then!

How does one get the crux terminates, I can't find it in either book? Is it just a rp thing? L

The Crux Terminatus is described in Rites of Battle pg 206. Under normal conditions it is an honour rewarded to the bravest of space marine heroes, which translates to doing some pretty amazing stuff in-game with your character.

Unfortunately it looks like upon review that there aren't any circumstances that characters in this creation would be allowed to begin play having earned the Crux Terminatus.

Thanks. Just have to play excedingly well then lol. Has anybody made anything remotely approaching a party face or leader? L

Dark Archive

just dotting so i can follow your adventure ;-)

I don't think we need a face character for this. A leader probably.

Dapphon is a tac-marine which will suffice if push comes to shove.

Alright, the GM has been so gracious as to wave the renown requirement for becoming a Dreadnought (Rites of Battle).

I was wondering if anyone here was already creating someone who could pair up with me to repair any damage and replace/reload any weapons, or if anyone would like to tweak theirs somewhat to fulfill this role.

Obviously, I'm open to any background cooperation needed, and don't care if you're from the Emperor's Children Legion. I could have met you planetside, if necessary.

Nice! Congrats. Brother Toc is a line marine with some specialism with demolitions (either tac marine of devastator) with some knowledge of tech (techpriest training from dark heresy) so he should be able to patch you up a bit, if we can find parts... Crunch coming soon...

I've actually been allowed to pick up a cohort (from First Founding) that should be able to deal with most problems and help me reload my weapons during battle of needed.

Don't feel obligated to build around me, though of course any help is more than welcome!

What Legion is Brother Toc from?

Don't worry, that was my build plan anyway. Toc is a Duskraider.

Okay, cool! I don't want to force anyone to play any specific thing with my build.

Speaking of, my cohort will have Space Marine Implants as one of his traits, allowing him to be durable enough for me to use him as a secondary character when the several-Marine high Dreadnought is deemed excessive or unnecessary (stealth/tight quarters missions).
Since I have to split my resources (gear and XP) between the two characters, I don't plan on outshining anyone with my secondary character, although I plan on shining a lot in combat with my Dreadnought.

Beautiful machine, guys. Just beautiful.

Dapphon will make sure that heavy weapons guys are among his first targets to help keep the big killy machine that is a dreadnought, big and killy.

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a good idea!

I'm interested to see how Dapphon and Tyranius (the alias I made for him) will function together on the battlefield.

I can easily see them setting an ambush, with the Dreadnought hidden somewhere and Dapphon up at a vantage point.
Dapphon would provide tactical support and heavy weapons removal, while Tyranius kills just about everything he needs to.
There will be plenty of moments where we could replicate the classic "you kill enemy behind me, I turn around and thumbs up or something" moment you see so often in movies.

And, as I said earlier, I won't ruin any stealth missions, as we'll leave the armored library (get it? Cause he's like, immortal?) behind as my cohort takes to the field alone, a much more agile and quieter combatant than the Dreadnought.

In solo mode with a half action to aim, Dapphon has a 95% chance of hitting the target as long as he can see it. He ignores all penalties due to long or extreme range. With stalker rounds the enemy won't even hear the bolter round.

As much as you seem to have perfected the "one shot, one kill" mantra, I seem to have an equal distance in the opposite direction.

"Many shots, many kills" is how Dreadmoughts operate, although I will be more than grateful for every enemy that isn't aiming a missile launcher or grenade at me.

Or a land raider. Y'know, if we're just naming things.

It is true Dapphon can't deal with everything. But that is why there is team that specializes in dealing with different things.

Hopefully I'll have a couple of krak missiles with that land raider's name on them.

Hey guys, legoguy4492 here, almost done, probably will finish tomorrow or day after.

Don't forget your starting equipment in your gear section.

My power armor right? I have a question about it, in the rulebook, it only includes Mark VII Artificer and Terminator Armour. What stats should I use for Mark VI?

Well, that, plus a few other things. Page 28 of the Core Rulebook has the list of starting equipment for every Legionnaire, along with the gear provided to each Specialty.

With the power armor, the different Marks are actually in Rites of Battle. Full stats for each variant Mark of power armor can be found on page 151.
If you don't actually have access to this book, I'll be glad to help you with each individual suit itself.

Reporting in with my finished Contemptor-class Dreadnought, minus the stats of one piece of gear.

And also...

Here's my completed follower!

As you can see, he is built for generic support, with enough weaponry to support the rest of you but not so much as to outshine anyone.

He has a decent Tech-Use skill, so that he can repair me and reload my weapons, and just generally be useful.

Toc's done on paper, I'll write him up tonight

Hello all!

This is Sach's submission reporting for duty.

Barak should be pretty much finished. He's a War Hound Assault Marine who's having a bit of a hard time dealing with the traitors he's surrounded by.

Everyone's builds are looking really classy. That dread though... Wow. I'm interested in seeing how everyone fits round that.

Sorry I'm taking a while, my kids are on half term which limits time this week.

The basic skeleton is in this alias but its not complete yet.

T

I'm closing recruitment to new applicants. The rest of you will have a few more days to sort yourselves out.

So if I have everything right we have the following people

Dapphon dusk raider tactical marine

Toc dusk raider tactical marine

Barak Gil'een war hound assault marine

Tyranius akioro emperor's children dreadnought

Geroros Kemeul war hound assault marine
