Homebrew and House Rules

My friend and I are working on a world called Nosstrach. We are looking for talented and energetic people to come into the fold and help build this world. We are looking for people whom have an interest in the world and match our vision for a Pathfinder setting.

Nosstrach is a world that has birthed dragons, giants and many other "tiny" races. The dragons and giants formed most of the foundation that other civilizations have built on, however they fought a war of attrition that both lost. The other races of the world had fallen into dark times and had to fight simply to survive. The world is now in a period of hope where civilizations are now able to prosper and fight off the goblinoid and undead hoards.

The year for Nosstrach is 600 days, the growing season is long and is generally able to produce several rounds of crops, but the winters are equally long. Many animals hibernate through the worst part of the winter.

Dire animals are typical mounts for many, with exceptions for the most tame, civilized areas as well as goblinoids.

The two moons of the world cause tides to be erratic and dangerous to live close to, many of the major cities are away from the coast line.

The western continent runs from the north through the equator to the far south. The far south was the birth place of the intelligent life of Nosstrach. A mountain range runs the length of this continent. Some of the civilizations that span this continent are the Tothians and Agerachians. Agerachians are formed of several different countries that inhabit the birthplace of dragons. Tothians are a sturdy folk that have wide spread reach and were the beacon of hope to many in a time of darkness.

The channel separating the two continents is called the scar, this was caused by a battle between the parents.

The eastern continent runs from the west to east and is smaller than the western continent. The northern jungles are a vicious place inhabited by halflings and elves and you would be stupid to explore without a guide. The southern coast is the home to many civilizations, built on top of ancient ones.

To the south and east of the eastern continent is home to elves. The trade winds make travel to and from difficult. The civilizations are bold in all aspects of their lives, including interactions with outsiders.

To the east of the western continents northern tip is an island, Malorak, known for their mithril mines and quality of steel. This island was infested with undead and was the birthplace of Telmatrass the Unliving.

On a chain of smaller islands to the east of the eastern continent is an Island nation of Ida. This nation is one founded in a part of the world that was mostly undisturbed and was able to form a society based on learning and knowledge.

If you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer them.

Will this world have an under dark type area, and what about the cosmology of the world.

How 'Old' is the world? Are there tens of thousands of years of history? More than can be counted or remembered? Relatively young?

A world spanning Underdark, no. But vast localized cave systems, ancient buried cities and other underground adventuring areas that could contain civilization do exist.

We know roughly what planetary bodies there are in the solar system that Nosstrach is in, and what planes exist. All other planes are known by their draconic names among scholars. The four main ones other than the material plane are listed below. At this point there isn't much on any of the planes beyond the basic concept.

Kaelach, The Godhome, The Birthplace of Fiends, The Land of Light. This plane is home to the Gods, their servants and the spirits of the dead.

Elementiss, The Fourfold Realm, The Making. This plane is home to elementals, genies, azers, xorn and salamanders.

Mbrach, The Soulhold, Land of the Unborn, Sea of Spirits. This plane is almost uninhabited except for the souls of the newly dead and the souls of the soon to be born.

Thenbrisz, The Shadowdark, The Endless Dark. This plane in home to many creatures of darkness.

The dragons date the end of the Age of Legend as being a bit less than 14,000 years ago. Not even they are sure how long that first age lasted, but it was probably a few thousand years.

We are still looking for people.

Seasons that long likely have an effect on many things other than farming. FOr example, there would likely be a really long 'WAr season' and 'non war season' Certain resources become all the more valuable. Salt for preserving meats through the cold season, grains and foodstuff that tend not to rot, what have you.

YOu mentioned elves and halflings, what of other player races?

One would suppose Dwarves to have somewhat of a leg up with insulated undeground dwellings given the long winters, perhaps?

We had considered some of the impacts of longer seasons that you mentioned. I don't think we thought of salt though.

Nosstrach has all the core races except half-elf and half-orc, along with ratfolk, orcs, goblins and dragonkin, a reptilian race created by dragons to be their mightiest servants. Most of the core races have several culture groups that change some of their starting traits. When I am at my computer later I can post the stats for some of the culture groups and Dragonkin if you are interested.

High magic, low magic, normal magic?

Normal magic.

Gods: small focused pantheon, a few small focused pantheons for various cultures, of forgotten realms level 'God hiding behind every bush waiting to say boo'?

We don't have a huge amount of detail on the gods yet. But it is a single medium sized pantheon of mostly related gods, like the geek and Norse pantheons.

Do dragons (true) and giants still exist or are they extinct? If they have simply vanished, you could have secret stashes of dragon eggs hidden and awaiting incubation/hatching to repopulate the world, and the last few giants gathered in small communities in VERY remote places and protected from view by powerful magic. This will allow for legendary encounters to occur, or for them to appear as if out of legend should the story require it.

I would love to see a 'geek' pantheon. Gates, Wozniak, ....

Both dragons and giants still exist but their power is greatly diminished from what it once was, and their civilizations are no more. Giants might be encountered in clans, dragons maybe as a pair. Scholars of both races believe they will be extinct within a handful of generations.
