This is the only power of positivity I pay attention to.
the last convention I worked, the guy across from me and his wife kept staring at me because I bore a resemblance to one of them. They turned me on to the characters and their act and I have to say it was a new day from that moment forward.

Maybe dinner there instead of Katz's? Raclette is near Lovecraft.

But...katz'....
It's cool. Just note that we will not have the usual level of pre-lovecraft heartening to avoid drunkenness...

Beware the nuclear wessels.
Wow.
OK, I keep streaming music from Itunes at work to keep my work internet connection open. (And to keep my sanity), usually Streaming Soundtracks . com.
And I kid you not. As I read this line, The closing theme from Star Trek IV, The Voyage Home started playing.
O_o <Mind. Blown.>

Patrick Curtin wrote:Hey CH, you do the train thing. What's a ballpark price for a ticket?Round trip from Boston? Probably around $100 or so.
Edit: my bad. That's what I recall for a one way ticket. So double that.
About what I thought. Is it worthwhile to pre-buy? Or can I pick them up at the station? I just don't want to be boxed into a certain train

8-14 inches of snow expected here on the mile-high lowlands, woo!
For some reason, I'm dying for eggs today. Avoiding them is generally no problem, but I'd love nothing more than a plate of fried eggs with buttered toast this morning. OM NOM NOM. Maybe I'm not really allergic.
My brain is trying to kill me.

If need be, you could take the train to somewhere outside the city, and I could pick you up on the way down.

Absolutely. You could park as far as New Haven and take the Metro North. It's about 90 minutes from New Haven, or closer to an hour from Stamford. Parking there is free or cheap, and the round trip ticket is closer to $30.
The bonus is Metro North takes you into Grand Central, whereas Amtrak takes you to the hellhole that is Penn Station.
Those tickets are sold from machines at the station, so you don't have to pre-buy. On a Saturday, trains should leave Stamford every hour probably. Not sure about New Haven.

I am there twice a day. I think I've seen all the sections.

Why undo such gorgeous architecture? Many cities are renewing their old-timey train stations, not making them look like an anchor store in a mall.
Short answer is that it was privately owned, and the owner could do whatever he pleased with it.
Longer answer is Ken Burns documentary on New York.
EDIT: "There is historic justice in trying to rectify a crime committed a half-century ago that galvanized the architectural preservation movement. “One entered the city like a god; one scuttles in now like a rat,” is the familiar lament from Vincent J. Scully Jr., the Yale architectural historian, about the difference between the former and present Penn Stations."
From this article.
Normally, I would take offense at the suggestion that scuttling like a rat is a bad thing, but I love that quote.

Ok. New haven is 2 1/2 hrs from me. So, if I get up at 0 Dark 30, I can be there by @6-7am. Then I can be in Grand Central by 9am. This is looking great. It would take me 2 hours to get to South Station anyway
ok.
I will be with my mom for the early hours of the morning and then be in manhattantown around 1 or so. Does that work for you? CH, what time do you think you will be in the city?

I'm good. Idk what the hotel's occupancy stats are, or how rigorously they are enforced. I think CH had evidenced some interest in crashing there

That works for me. I'll need to get my room straight, then I'll likely play photo tourist. I'm not a big-ticket sightseer. I'll end up taking pictures of funky buildings and the like.
