No kidding! I calculate you were up and posting at 4:20 AM. That is the crack of why the hell am I awake?

Whee, trying to cram in another unit before semester ends in two weeks.

I think I may have managed to scare most of the school off from any future enrollment in economics.

...wait till they see how much work they're gonna have to do for current events.

LOL,

Thanks, but all I did was spend money! ;P

Granted, It is less money than Cable was charging me, with a lot more speed and stuff, but still,... I can't take any credit. ;)

What I CAN do is say "MEEP! MEEP!" every time I sit down at the PC now! :D

That IS the crack of 'Why the hell am I awake?!?' O_o

I get up at 5am every day to kick the rest of the family out of bed, in order, to get to work and school for the day. And THAT is the crack of 'Stupid' as far as I am concerned! ;P

SHeesh! Glad I never had YOU in college! ;P

My wife just finished her final last night, she was stressing all week over it, (hard teacher, NO previous tests to go off of, and no study guide. One of those 're-read EVERYthing from all semester' teachers)

Now she has a few weeks stress-free, just normal job stuff, before the NEXT class (same teacher) starts in Jan! :P

Hey, now. I'm giving them a cheat sheet for the final. I just can't justify twiddling my thumbs for a week and a half of dead air when there's one more unit in the book we can at least start looking at.

I’m still very happy with six hours of sleep. I got to bed sorta early, so after seven hours I was up. That was about 4am. So I Carpe’d that MF Diem

I got my classes!

And I managed to scrape together enough funds from my own bank accounts that I didn't need to borrow and I still have emergency cash in the lockbox!

Yeah, I'm short 2 classes from what I planned, but I got the ones I HAVE to have to progress in the program. The rest may still be available when I am ready, but these two close FAST.

Imagine the tension... a bunch of old white lady Botanical Illustration students poised over their computers, breathlessly awaiting the stroke of 9 a.m. when the class enrollment started today. Tension! Drama! What a great movie that would make!

Plotting to sabotage other applicants? Murders using strange botanical poisons? Yes, it would make a good movie. :D :D :D

I have an audition this evening. Leaving details out for now, but it could be an exciting opportunity for some (non-professional) fun. I expect to break all of my legs.

Break 'em good!

So my birthday present (Dec 11th in case any of you care..) is that Mom is having me remodel the spare bathroom because our contractor only has one usable limb.

Anyone see a problem with this?

My roommate's old gaming PC is working with all my stuff so far. One more update to Windows (1709), and I can try putting in my hot graphics card and see if it keeps working. I should have a gaming PC again by the end of the week, knock wood, fingers crossed, hang a horseshoe, etc.

What are the specs on your new gaming PC?

Oh, it's old. I haven't cracked the case yet to check out the components. I do know it has a dual-core Intel processor (my failing system is a 6-core AMD) and an AMD 7700 level graphics card. I have a relatively hot new Sapphire card which I'll put in if the power supply is big enough. She thinks it's a 750. I hope so. But for games, the performance should be more on the graphics card side (I HOPE), not so much the normal processor. I need to check the memory, though, and see if I can load up my old DIMMs onto the new board (if slots are available).

I do have my Orbweaver and Basilisk and a cheapo lighted keyboard (which I forego in favor of the Orbweaver). The combo was beautiful in Skyrim, my test game.

When you boot your PC and it says:

Hi.

We have some updates for your system.

This should only take a few minutes.

Please don't turn off your PC.

...do you also get a sick, sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach, or is it just me?

Depends on how many updates it's downloading. I once had an update session that lasted four hours.

I guess the contractor just uses the usable one to point and give orders?

I definitely do.

Admittedly, that's partially because my laptop does not have the most reliable battery, and - on multiple occasions - shut off during startup for seemingly no reason I can perceive. I'm already worried that one of these days that's going to happen and it's just not going to stop happening, or when I try to turn it on again and it does successfully fully boot that everything is going to be reset to factory default and all my stuff lost.

The worry that this'll happen during an update session - both pre- and post-restart - is quite high.

Probably. I still think I shouldn't have to do renovations on my birthday.

I completely agree.

Thank you!

Not really. I spent Thanksgiving of this year knocking out a wall in my father's workshop and patching a bunch of drywall.

Thanks David or should I call you Jacob Marley?

Heh, I just found out today that the contractor I have been waiting to squeeze me in so I can get my front room repaired. (Minor flooding last year.) Wants to get started tomorrow. :P

SO<... I spent my relaxing evening moving a christmas tree, a piano (that did NOT want to move, stupid antique wheels) and all the decorations, pictures, etc (Not to mention a ton of DVD's and VHS tapes) that get put up in 8 years of living in a house with a family. (Yeah, I'm leaving the VHS tapes packed.) ;P

STILL have to move the TV and cover the couch with plastic, and take down my shutter/shades without destroying them.

On the PLUS side, NOW I remember how BIG the front room is! Without all of the STUFF, most of the rooms in my house are actually fairly good sized. :)

It should be an interesting week. But at least I'll have new walls (and hopefully carpet!) for when the relatives come over for Christmas dinner!
:D

Yeah, I'm going to bed now. Got a long day ahead of me tomorrow. (And I still have to go to work and get stuff done)_

Congratulations are in order for our resident Polish dragon. Kudos on getting into Wayfinder 18. I didn’t make the cut, but honestly I didn’t expect to. The submitting was the important part.

Next step, upping my game for next time.

Yeah, my birthday was a 16-hour shift. Most of my holidays in the last decade have been spent working long hours. Then going home and handling whatever needed handling. Adults don’t get birthdays.

Truth.

I admittedly tend to forget about mine until someone says happy birthday.

<_< I use mine as an excuse to not grade. Putting off reading a bunch of essays for 24 hours is a nice benefit.

Yeah once you get past 30 that shiny invulnerable feeling of youth starts to fray

*sigh* Yeah, it was pretty much the same with me.

I'm 54 and I still make wish lists for birthdays and Christmas. I may not get anything from them, but I still make them. And sometimes it pays off.

I have the opposite problem. Anything i want that is reasonably priced to ask for as a gift, I probably already bought it myself.

I used to do that. Now because of the financial situation I live in even moderately priced things are out sometimes out of reach. So I beg for things at holidays..lol

Oh, you're one of those. Those people who make life difficult for the rest of us.

My parents once visited the week before my dad's birthday. He saw a Bears sweatshirt at a store that he really liked. My mom and I were all aha! Present! At last we know what he wants! We'll go get it tomorrow while he's out on his planned venture.

He went for a drive that afternoon and returned with the sweatshirt, because he wanted it and had money so bought it to be certain he got it.

Kill.

>_<

I solve this by usually just asking for gift cards and such to stores I visit a lot.

Look I admit. I'm probably WAY too old to be celebrating but considering how my life goes some times, I prefer to celebrate than fear it.

That and the fact I live with my mom who at least takes me out and thus doesn't mind helping me celebrate.

I don't have kids, I don't have a significant other or spouse. So...this is my life.

Plus the fact I have worked on holidays before (including this past Thanksgiving) but I always figured I MIGHT get some...freedom to enjoy my birthday even slightly. This however...isn't what I had in mind.

I'm a fogey who finds gift cards so... sooooo.... impersonal? Cold? Unthinking?

So I give cash. There's something about cash. It's green and crinkly and full of drugs and germs and, if you're lucky, there's a picture of Alexander Hamilton on it.

Mmmmm... Hamilton. Our hottest founding father.

Mmmmm... cash. Crinkly and sans provenance.

Umm...lesseee... Ultimate Wilderness, the New Paths Compendium from Kobold Press, Sandy Peterson's Cthulhu Mythos, the blu-ray editions of F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu, Raising Arizona, and War of the Arrows. And underwear.

I'm *pretty sure* I'm getting the first two books. I've heard my wife and son talking about them.
