Awesome!

If I get this job I am in line for I should be well situated to come visit you and Sabine and the little dwarflings. My mother, being a hippie Canadian is super excited. But, she's a huge world traveler. Somehow she manages to find ways of going all over the globe on a retired art teacher's salary. She's headed to China for several weeks this fall.

Scarab Sages

'Twas a lovely 92 degF here in the NOLA region today. Which made it about 101 with the heat index. Sweet!

Ugh.

*looks at the clock*

Ugh indeed...

So, finally getting set with everything. Started packing. Realized that I still own waaaay too many dead tree books.

I swear I am going digital. I will get these books read and then donated. So help me spaghetti monster.

LET'S DO IT

Scarab Sages

Arrived home in Houston to a balmy 95 degF, 105 with the heat index. Maybe I'll go for a stroll around the neighborhood.

I'll just go for a stroll around my living room, which is 75 degrees, thank you very much.

Somewhere in the Astor Place area, and probably after 6 pm. I need to scout out likely places. FHDM usually has the scoop on what's good

I'll see if I can get off work.

This looks as if it might be relevant to our shared geekly interests:

Barcade!!

Or we could go to NYC's oldest bar:

McSorleys

Or a bar that attempts some punk cred:

The Continental

Or a typical bar, but with a lot of beers on tap:

Central Bar

I know where FHDM wants to go:

Sake Bar

Or, maybe he'd rather go trashy:

Coyote Ugly

Of course we'll have to eat first. There's Korean nearby. They claim to have BonChon:

Boka

Middle Eastern is always yummy:

Mamouns

What trip would be complete without pizza?

2bros pizza

Or giant burgers?

Paul's Burgers

Specialty ramen?

Noodle Cafe Zen

I've never had Ukranian food before, but I am willing to try:

Veselka

Ah, NYC. The panoply of stuff to do in just a few blocks of the city ...

A child of the South, with a love of warm weather but a poor ability to convey sarcasm through text regarding the Hell's Sauna weather that is dominant in the aforementioned South.

Actually, that is partially misleading. I don't mind these super hot temps, or being out in them. It can be enjoyable for yardwork or other outdoors projects, for pool party style situations, etc. And if you're in the shade, with a nice breeze blowing or fan running, it can actually be somewhat pleasant at times.

McSorleys would be good. Haven't been there before.

Nothing like a tourist to make you go to places you always ignored.

FYI - for those who might be located somewhere near a Cracker Barrel restaurant - their seasonal menu items Campfire Chicken and Campfire Beef are f~@$ing delicious.

If all else fails there's always Lovecraft.

We may not be able to meet up until closer to 8. Hopefully that works out.

I kept having nightmares all night, which is very unusual for me as I can normally control my dreams or wake myself up if I don't like what's going on. Even after I got out of bed I didn't trust that it was real for a few minutes.

Spoiler:
I wonder if our president's face at the end is a sign of indignation or stifled smirk...

Heh, that's pretty good.

That is the likely scenario for me as well.

That's fine. Going out before 8 is pretty much day drinking anyway.

I don't care where we go, as long as it's quiet and I can have my back to the wall facing the doorway.

I was able to get that weekend off, by the way.

Any chance I could meet someone outside the city and carpool in?

I'm based out of Syracuse, NY, so I'd be coming in from the west.

McSorleys ain't quiet...maybe lovecraft would be better, especially if we could get downstairs.
