Or, maybe I should finish this tattered copy of Pawn of Prophecy I brought along. I haven't read the Belgariad since 1984. So far, the story hasn't held up as well as I remember. Eddings is more of a RA Salvatore than a JRR Tolkien.

I really enjoyed the original series. The sequel series, not so much. It seemed like a lot of "I only wrote this because the first time sold so well"

Once you get past the multi-novel series and get to the background stories , where the wizard and his daughter each got their own books, THOSE were interesting. (Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress)

I enjoyed his other series, Elenium and The Tamuli, about the Knight Sparhawk. (He's called a Paladin, but hes more of a magi-Knight):)

OTOH, I finally found (another) stand in while waiting for the next Dresden Files novel to emerge!

CHarles Stross has written many books I have not read yet, but his series "The Laundry Files" is great!
Very droll, tounge-in-cheek humor, where an employee of 'The Laundry' has many misadventures revolving around Lovecraftian horror, James-bond-esque spy thrillers, Science Fiction, and Dilbert-esque office politics. His descriptions of the workplace insanity alone is worth the read.

I could describe it as; 'Dresden meets Dilbert, James Bond and Cthulhu' and I wouldn't be too far off. ;P

He designed a couple of my favorite monsters from the (OG) Fiend Folio.

speaking of cthulhu sillyness, there's an old(realtive term) comic called "Those Annoying Post Brothers" by Matt Howarth. A prelude to the spin-off Savage Henry. Discuss...

my only EVER moderated post referenced Those Annoying Post Brothers... ahh well... readin be fund-da-mental

I did the first one in the series, and I agree. Quite funny.

Stress does a lot of great sci-fi (as well as being the originator of the Slaadi and Gith races)

I highly recommend the Merchant Prince series. Alternate history timeline jumpers and much shenanigans. Plus he just started a whole new series based on the first 20ish years after. Good stuff.

Also, if you like well-thought out gonzo sci-fi , Accelerando is a great book.

This is really dumb, and it means basically nothing from a professional standpoint, but one of the illustrators for Pathfinder added me on DeviantArt and favorited my latest painting, and I'm way more pleased with myself than is probably warranted.

I will check my itinerary when I am back in the office on Tuesday.

I swear the apartment upstairs is being used as a practice studio by the entire cast, crew, and company of "Riverdance."

These people make Percherons seem dainty.

So glad now that my mom yelled at me about walking heavily when I was a kid. Now I move like a f@+*ing ghost.

I see I have more books to read. Yay! And boo! So many books, so little money.

I have to sell my car before making any purchases. I bought a new (2003 new!) one that should do better in the winter and have to sell my own car. It's weird owning TWO cars all by my lonesome. What a PITA. I'd rather not even have one. Where is my hoverboard? Where is my transporter? Dammit! Get cracking, people!

Likewise. It's pretty well-protected where it is, and all the pieces have their backing done, but I'd like protection all around. Maybe after I sell my car and Michaels is having a framing sale.

The things I see called "hoverboards" don't actually hover. They're more like bad skateboards. If it don't hover, it's cheating.

Stepping disks.

A friend of mine complains that when he was a kid, "Popular Mechanics" magazine promised him his own personal helicopter by the time he was full grown. "So where is it?" he says. :-)

Urgh. So durn tired.

So today I brought the Monkeymobile up to the shop for an oil change and to have them replace my plate light ( the absolute worst light to go on a car). I figured that I would be paying $50-60 altogether and spending an hour or two.

Well, they came back and told me my brakes were about to give out. Four hours and $400 later I was on my way :/

Every time I think I'm getting ahead of the curve this kind of crap happens.
