Heat takes a lot out of me I guess. I slept between 8 and 9 hours last night. But a full week at work with no air... damn. By Friday I was standing in front of the industrial fan we set up because 90 degree wind tunnel is nicer than 90 degree stale air. So by the time I went home my hair was a disaster between the wind and the sweat it was like I had spent the day racing a convertible in the heat without a head scarf. And I was so hot I didn't care. But I am nice and clean and cool this morning relaxing in my air conditioned house with nothing to do but play video games.

(my normal sleep time is between 4 and 6 hours for those who don't know.)

Understanding Quantum Mechanics

Huh. I leaned something new. I thought Quantum Mechanics were just small people working on my car. j / k! J / K! It was one of my favorite things to learn about in my physics classes.

Edit - I figure that this also might help.

I wish I could say I've never seen worse in the Wayfinder crank file, but, I have. Earnest fans they may be, but, as they say, a man's got to know his limitations.

I've heard it's located squarely between the testicles.

Not to be confused with The Eye of Argonia.

A great story that draws you in from the first minutes. Compelling characters.

Also this.

Sigh

I got to bed past 2 am. I woke up minutes past 5 am. I am feeling groggy like if I just woke up not from a regular sleep but from a nap. This is it. My body thinks that going to bed at night is "nap" and reacts accordingly...

Being in control of a crank file is a mighty responsibility

Need some help with a logistical problem:

Spoiler:
My doctor(s) say that I need to lose 10-15 pounds and get my blood pressure down into the normal range for someone my age (that is to say, closer to age 30 than to age 70). However, high-impact exercise isn't an option (due to other health issues), and there are significant constraints on how much time I can devote to this. Suggestions?

Dave:

Spoiler:
I find swimming is an excellent low-impact cardio exercise. Most YMCAs have pools and memberships are relatively reasonable. I have a busy schedule, but I can usually get a mile of swimming done in 50 minutes. You're not going to get much more time efficient.

Alternatively there is plain old walking. I do a lot of this with my dogs, but you don't necessarily need a pet to walk. Going to some conservation land or a public park is a great way to exercise and also unplug for a bit.

You'd be surprised how effective some forms of Yoga can be for weight loss as well as toning and relaxation.

David:

Spoiler:
I too suggest walking. Having said that, you need to walk for at least an hour. It will (eventually) help out with your weight issue but it will also lower your blood pressure by a little bit and help reduce your stress level. Find a nice park or suburb to walk in / around. Good luck and call me if you need to talk. I will do my best to lower my whine level down to 0.

If there is a local pet shelter near you (or transportation isn't a problem), they are usually looking for volunteers to help walk the dogs.

*nods*

I volunteered daily at mine a few years ago before I got a paying job. I tried to keep both going but it wasn't gonna work out -_-

Speaking of volunteering, a pet-centric disaster rescue team I volunteer with has been tapped to assist with a horrid animal abuse situation. story here. It will be my first deployment with the team. I am excited, yet rather nervous. The scene there looks to be pretty gruesome. Hopefully I can make a few animal's lives better.

Oh and...

GOOD MORNING TREEFORTNAM!!!

Eight hour break before back for a 16-hour shift. Then my interview at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute for that security position, and a Lammas celebration with my fellow solitary Zen Wiccan celebrant.

Truly it's never a dull moment.

Plus I have a huge ghoul battle to sort out. And some dockside shenanigans to adjutate. Oh, and Scene one of the Snows of Summer to wrap up. Not to mention my multi-narrative-thread Planescape PbP experiment to unravel.

BTW, my Winter Is Coming PbP is going to need 3-4 new players soon. Anyone interested , post it here

;_;

Best of luck!

Now the16-hour shift begins.

I can't wait to get to 24 hours from now. I have some delicious steaks marinating and bread rising.

Crashed down at 6 pm... Woke up before 11 pm. I hoped I will manage to stay up longer than 6 pm, but I wasn't able to stay up.

Working on two hours sleep. This long shift is going to be a tiring one

I get bouts of dizziness, headaches, and hurting eyes on five hours of sleep... I have no idea how do you keep this up...

Power went out tonight, but not for too long. My tablet still functioned so didn't go through technology withdrawal. Put a candle in the bathroom while showering, just in case. Not romantic.

I've advanced to bending the broken finger both passively and actively. It doesn't bend much. It's also started making little clicking sounds sometimes, which makes me nervous. I make what seems like a lot of progress, then a couple of hours later it's all frozen again. Lots of starting over and wrapping it to get the swelling down. Kind of a drag.

On the good side, I tried playing and can make music after a fashion. The flute is open-hole, so I'll probably have to cork that particular key, but the finger works the key fairly successfully. So yay? Then we'll have to see if my embouchure survives the nerve damage inherent in breaking apart a jaw.

So looking forward to 2017!

Finished up all of Sherlock on Netflix. I really enjoyed the modernization. In fact, I like both Sherlock and Elementary in different ways.

Honestly ... I don't know. It seems to take a lot for me to get tired. I seem to be able to function with minimal sleep. I can take a 20-30 minute catnap and I awake refreshed. I don't feel deprived, hallucinatory or anything. I just don't really need to sleep all that much. In the past two months there's been one day where I got 8+ hours of sleep. Most days are averaging 5-6. With some days 2-3.

I didn't even realize it until I got my FitBit. I'm not even sure if this is new or just the way I have been all along.

I'm still working on Downton Abbey when I have a moment or two.

I'm glad I took a hiatus to binge on Stranger Things. What an awesome series.

Avatar the Last Airbender is such an awesome series. The Legend of Korra was pretty good too. Different but good.

It is, in my absolutely non-humble opinion, one of the better shows to come out in a very long while. I watched all three seasons, and eventually intend to own them on bluray (or perhaps some cloud-like format).

When they introduce him, let me know what you think of Ferdinand Lyle - next to Ethan Chandler, he was my favorite character on the show. Very eccentric and flamboyant - the actor did a fantastic job of stealing pretty much every scene they put him in.

Sadly, however, three seasons is all it seems we'll ever get. Which is sad, since they had a metric crapton of other plotlines to move forward with. However, one can always hope.

He was introduced in the first or second episode, I believe. I do love that character.

Oi,

I have never been able to 'catnap' or 'powernap'. Once I pass out, if I don't get at least a couple of hours I just can't wake back up. Very lethargic.

OTOH, I USED to be able to fully function on only a couple of hours sleep a night. (Did that many times in college) Of course, after a week or so of that I needed at least a day of sleeping in to recharge. ;P

Yeah,... I can't do that anymore,... :P

He shows up a lot more in season 2, which is awesome! He shows up only a little in season 3, which made me sad. But his was one of those open plots I really was hoping they'd follow up on in a potential season 4. It would have been FEPIC.

I react more or less the same. In the past I was able to withstand lack of sleep much better than this days.

I seem to be moving in the opposite direction. I got 2 1/2 hours Sunday afternoon, then I worked 16 hours, then I got 2 3/4 hours this morning. I am tired, yes, but nowhere near what you would expect for a situation like that. I can't explain it. I seem to remember sleeping a LOT when I was young. Maybe all those years in the military and working as a baker messed up my system.

*shrug*

Oh well, I won't complain. Better to get by on three hours rather than need nine...
