As far as a general Path of War summary goes, I think I can hit the high points like this.

-You get Stances, which are basically Style feats that can be left on while out of combat. If you feel PoW is too strong, an easy way to nerf it is to make Stances only in combat (though this is a bit odd for those that are obviously meant as out of combat ones, like the one that grants +10 ft speed and scent), as PoW characters rely on their Swift Action economy a lot.

-Then you have maneuvers, which are basically spells which refresh on the start of every encounter.

-Strikes, either full-round or standard action, are usually either an augmented melee/ranged attack (Attack, but with +1d6 damage) or just pretty much a spell (3d6 energy damage in a 30 ft line).

-Boosts, almost always a swift action (a few are move actions), usually give you a one attack or one round boost (like ignore DR on your next attack before your next turn) or a special movement (like, move your normal distance, but you don't provoke AoO).

-Counters, are always immediate actions, that protect you against one attack or spell or until the start of your next turn (Like, gain 10 Fire/Cold/Acid/ or Lighting against one spell), or occasionally perform a counterattack (After being attacked, perform an AoO back).

Each PoW class usually has a recharge mechanic for maneuvers to gain them back in combat. They are usually along the lines of "Spend a Standard/Full-Round action to regain your Cha/Int/Wis (depending on class) in maneuvers."

~~

To use an example...

Julie Dei Vult is ambushed at a party! Ellara wants to eat her, for some reason.

Julie Dei Vult is a mystic, and has five maneuvers readied, Clockwatcher, Eldritch Shield, Eldritch Fang, Degrade Resistance, and Temporal Fury, and is in her Elemental Flux stance (Air Mode) all the time.

Julie Dei Vult, being a mystic, gets to pick two readied maneuvers to be immediately usable, and the rest are currently "withheld". These withheld maneuvers will be slowly given to her randomly over the next three turns. Because mystics are weird, even for Path of War. She picks Clockwatcher and Eldritch Fang.

Ellara is all about to surprise round Julie, but Julie activates Clockwatcher which is a "I don't want to be surprised/flat-footed", which says it can be used as an immediate action, even when you're surprised/flat-footed (otherwise fat lot of good it'd be). Thus, they need to roll initiative.

Ellara Init: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Julie Init: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Alright, so Julie is first, when someone is ambushing her. However, she doesn't exactly know who is ambushing her yet, because Ellara hasn't acted. At this point, it's just the prickly spider sense telling Julie "Yo, shit's going down". So, Julie decides to Enhance Kraken's Maw, as her standard action, and she'd love to be able to Energy Channel, but she can't, because she already used her swift action as an immediate on clockwatcher.

Then, because I'm not great at playing Ellara or knowing her combat routine, Ellara decides to have an anyerism from sheer stupidity, and not use any of her great techniques/combos I'm sure she has, and just do a Claw Force Blade at me.

Claw Force Blade: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage Slashing/Force: 1d4 + 4 + 4d8 ⇒ (4) + 4 + (8, 4, 6, 1) = 27

Now, if Julie hadn't used Clockwatcher to remove flat footed, she would have just taken 27 damage before getting to act. But, her unnatural luck and instincts warned her a battle was coming and she prepared herself for the attack.

Now, Julie gets a random one of her prepared maneuvers to stop being withheld, out of Eldritch Shield, Degrade Resistance, and Temporal Fury.

1d3 ⇒ 3

Julie, on her turn, can use Temporal Fury, or Eldritch Fang, as both are standard action strikes. Julie decides to go all out, drawing Kraken's Maw (move action), Energy Channel (swift action), Eldrich Fang (standard action), and spending an Animus pool point to boost Eldrich Fang.

Nom them, Kraken!: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Damage Slashing/Force/Lightning: 2d6 + 5 + 2d6 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 4) + 5 + (1, 1) + (3, 6) + 4 = 29
NOM NOM CRIT!: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
Damage Slashing: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (6, 5) + 5 = 16

And, thanks to the magic of critical hits and Ellara not pre-buffing or doing any of her other nifty stuff, sends Ellara to -5, with 2 points of bleed. And a fort save or be staggered, but that's kind of irrelevant at this point. Good thing Julie didn't decide to spell point Lightning Blade for +5d6 damage instead of +2d6 from Eldritch Fang. :O

The Exchange

Tyrek now has spheres! They look like fun too!

Oh yes - Tyrek has Magical Lineage to boost his caster level. I used the trait as is and bumped his CL to +5 is that right? I've not played with spheres before.

Magical Lineage is about Metamagic, right? XD; Or is there another one somewhere?

I think we know which one Tyrek means. :P

@DM
Did you get my PM?

Still have a little crunch stuff to finish up and a backstory to write out. So nearly complete. Maybe 80% done. :)

Since when were we allowed templates?

Bene Gesserit wrote:

He said you can take a template instead of gestalt.

Lukas Shipwright's backstory is completed.

Yes, for the few who couldn't cope with gestalt I let them make the switch, since it's usually a downgrade.

Noted, Waskally. My folder is updated.

Oh must have missed that

Almost want to make Bene go for Sainthood

If you think you can re-build it in 22 hours.

Goodness me! I just realized how stiff the competition is! That's 17 people competing for 4 spots

JonGarrett wrote:

Wait.. are you serious?

Yeah. It's a bit of a nightmare, really. I didn't expect this game to be so popular. But I'm sure tomorrow evening the consultation between myself, my wife and a copious quantities of alcohol will make the right decision.

Early bed time and deal with it in the morning.

Eh, im staying out for time reasons.

But you went with a gestalt game that invites 3rd party. That's usually enough to get at least a few guaranteed responses.

There is no way to rewrite Bene and keep her the same.

I'm here because it litterally fit near perfectly for a concept I had for a while now, that would be easy with Gestalt and Spheres of Power. Mechanically, proved a hair tougher than thought- Still working on the mechanics, but I think I have her personality down.

What're you trying to do, exactly? o wo Maybe we can help.

Mostly, a feminine dwarvish item crafter, someone who, with shee will, forges things. It's kinda difficult to describe, but this image pretty much sums up the type of character:
Image

As it is, it's almost entirely done, just need to do my mundane items, and maybe a handful of Magic items (Only have about 2k left to spend on stuff). So I won't need any help- Mostly it's just plopping everything onto a sheet that works in the format here and finishing up writing the backstory that I'm having difficulty doing now.

I'd just fluff it and say "she forges with magic instead of grabbing hammers". If it makes no real difference in the game (maybe spending an equivalent amount on 'focus tools' instead of 'forging tools'?), why not? XD

Alright, posting Bella Stone's character page- Still deciding between Steel Soul or Improved Initiative. Background fluff still needs done, but I'm getting tired- I'll work until I've fallen asleep, then edit it tomorrow morning.

Gyatso would be interesting in this game.

I think you missed Gragmaar, but I'd like to withdraw anyway. I just got into another PbP, and from comments you made earlier I don't think the build would have been a good fit. (Plus no finalised fluff)

I am still here, just checking in.

Gah, background isn't done to the ammount I'd like, but the outline stuff is done at least.

Background:
Imagine, if you will- A kingdom in a distant land, mountains of ice and stones drilled into by isolated dwarves, who embraced darkness wholey. From that darkness, you hear an echo from below, and a Dwarf enters out into the day.
That Dwarf made a kingdom, large and spanning, a kingdom made not of steel, but gold and trade. Gaining materials from the southern regions, with the best ship making across the globe, capable of traveling the rough journey with the highest degrees of success.
He birthed a daughter, about forty years ago, concieved on his lovers forge- And so, he birthed his daughter.

She was raised like many dwarves in the kingdom- A hint of martial training, some combat, but though she was stout of frame, she wasn’t particuarly strong, but her love seemed to be on the forge, where she spent her days hammering out tools and magic, sowing together outfits- Her love for creation seemed boundless.

Her father set something up, between her and the princess of a not to distant kingdom he’d recently been eying to establish trade relations with- So he, and his daughter, began to write.

Now, the daughter wasn’t the wisest dwarf, and was relatively foolish, but fell deeply in love with the women, though she did disagree with the queen's financial policy. They talked about royalty, design, outfits, and just generally chatted with each other about one anothers life.

But, slowly, the dwarf began to be swayed, and pulled- And she found that, behind the girls fragile frame was a mind as stunning as the stars. And the dwarven princess realized that she loved her as much as any forge (Though not sure if she loved her back). So she wrote a letter that night, to discover the following morning that she had been kidnapped.

She took to a Wizard, who whisked her away to the island, in search of the woman she fell in love with.

Appearance and Personality:
To be honest, despite everything about her, she’s kinda rough, but ultimately good natured woman- A little less than five foot tall, with brown eyes and curly hair- The clothing she wears on her back seem mostly mundane- No special frills on her cloak, a fairly mundane pair of glasses resting on her nose, a small silver chain around her throat, and a small, plain wooden cane with a bell engraved on it, plus a small bag at her belt. Her entire attire is actually rather plain, seemingly mundane clothing.

For the most part, the women is rather plain, even in conversation- She usually doesn’t say much until one talks about magic or the creation of stuff- Where she goes in and explains her love for the stuff.

In General, she's rather reserved, not being one for conversation outside of where she was taught- Talk to her about financing and establishing an effective market monopoly, she can talk for hours. Talk about diplomacy, she'll probably stumble. Talk about Thievery, she'll be silent as the day after a snowfall. Talk about Spying, she might provide some ideas as to how to gain access to it- Talk about divination, she'll stumble occasionally, but will say one or two things.

All in all, she's quiet, reserved, but when you get into an area she's versed in, she's the best companion one can have.

Applications are now closed.

Thank you for all the wonderful applications. It's nice to see people like the idea as much as I did.

I'll be going through the applications tonight, and will hopefully post the game tonight, but if I don't it shall be tomorrow.

There's some awesome apps in there. Best of luck to everybody.

Indeed, Philo, seconded.

Best of luck to everyone.

Going to keep polishing, cause what else can I do to occupy my time. :)

Here I sit... Refreshing the page every 10 minutes... Waiting... Watching... Hopeing.

I'm all a-quiver with anticipation!

Me as well.

Grand Lodge

sorry i didn't get a chance to get the fluff done...been a long couple days...good luck who ever gets in...looks interesting

Alright ladies and gentlfolks, it's time for the results. This was as awful as I expected, given I've been weighing pros and cons for the last few days, and the last five hours solidly. Needless to say it ended up with me staring at sheets, cutting and pruning for the most petty reasons...

So without futher ado;
hallowsinder - Julie de Vult
Philo Pharnyx - Kiyomi
Cydirus - Lady Karnelia
Rednal - Ellara

Welcome to the game. To everyone else - thank you so much. I'm glad you applied, and hope to play with most of you in the near future. Good luck!

I wish you guys all the best

Congratulations!

Boo. Have fun, y'all!

Good luck everyone.

Congratulations to my fellow players, and best of luck in your future applications to the others.

Congratulations! Good luck with the princess.

Well, Team Ladies of the Court is a go. All gals picked. :)

May the rest of you find a home for your characters.

That is one way to avoid the harem troupe lol

Given the hints in Kiyomi's bio, and the fact that Julie's original incarnation was a Slaanesh cultist, we're not out of the woods yet.

*Blinks* I chose a lady based team again? Well...crap...

I didn't actually realize. And this is the second time! One of my other games has six players, five of which are women character.

It looks like I did miss the deadline in the end. Ah well - best of luck to everyone :).

Best of luck to all involved, but know that there are those who would love to tag along.
