Matt's Iron Gods Campaign Recruitment

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 52 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Torch, a small community within the country of Numeria, has long been a hotspot for wandering smiths and experimenters. Named for the large bonfire of purple flame that sits atop a heat blackened hill, the town opened it's fire up to anyone who wanted to use it, an attractive prospect considering it is one of the few things hot enough to forge the skymetal strewn across Numeria. However, the fire has recently gone out.

A man by the name of Khonnin Baine went below ground, thinking the fire was coming from caves beneath the town and that he could restore the flame. However, he has not returned. Torch called for outside adventurers to find him and restore their fire. Four groups have answered. None have returned. You are the latest group to respond, determined to prevail where all others have failed.

I'm going to be picking 4 characters to run through the Iron Gods AP.
-20 point buy
-All material from the Hardcovers, Technology Guide, People of the River, and People of the Stars are allowed. Stuff from other splatbooks or 3rd party needs to be approved of by me.
-2 traits; one must be a campaign trait from the Iron Gods Player's Guide.
-No Evil characters.
-Average starting gold for your class.
-Last day of recruitment will close on February 4th.
-I am available to post most days between 9am-1pm Eastern Standard Time, and will try to post at least once a day, not including weekends.

Dot for interest

Curious though, Kasatha permitted?

Also interested. Are there any restrictions on class or race?

I'm a little worried about the multi armed ability of the Kasatha, but I can see them working well in the adventure path. Give me a good backstory and character and I'll consider them.

No restrictions on class or race other than they must be from one of the hardcovers unless you clear a 3rd party race with me. (Obviously, no bestiary monsters unless they can be characters normally.)

Putting down this character who is also in another Iron Gods recruitment.

Submitting my techslinger, Dr Mystiel Sange.

Appearance:

Mystiel is a youthful-looking male of moderate build and genial features. His straw-coloured hair is tied back carelessly in a thin tail, suggesting that it is a result of convenience rather than fashion. He sports a leather vest over a a loose-fitting long-sleeved shirt of white cotton. His thick cloth pants and low-cut boots are clean but well-worn, suggesting that he has seen some travel in recent years. Oddly enough, he wears only a single glove on his right hand, which he never removes. When he travels, a sling hangs beside his belt-pouch and he carries an oddly-shaped club slung on his back, but otherwise appears to be a well-kept and educated but otherwise unremarkable commoner.

Backstory:

Myst's grandfather, Graeme, was a scholar in the Technic League who had been researching a way to improve the usability of technological firearms by solving the problem of their limited ammunition. The solution he came upon was a bioelectric charge generated by the user's body and channeled into the firearm via a port in a cybernetic arm. For years he labored on the concept and after years of tinkering finally completed a working prototype.
But although Graeme had attempted to keep his research a secret, jealous competitors in the League took notice of his research and the materials streaming into his laboratory, and deduced the nature of his research (though not its form). Graeme came under pressure from the upper echelons of the League's hierarchy to reveal the full nature of his research and surrender it to the league for 'safekeeping', for whilst the mages of the League possessed a rare few methods of maintaining the charges in the technological weapons, they jealously resented the prospect of renewable power for those weapons being available through a device that might find its way into non-League hands. His laboratory was placed under surveillance and he knew that it was only a matter of time before they came knocking.

Reluctant to give up his life's work, Graeme sought a solution. In his desperation, he looked to his grandson, Myst, who had served as his apprentice and assistant, and there was no one who knew more about the arm after Graeme himself. The prototype arm had a flaw - the device drew its bioelectric charge directly from the user's heart, but without proper calibration and due to several inefficiencies in the circuitry, it could not be used extensively without endangering the user (grit limits how often it can be used). But reasoning that Myst's young heart would be better-able to cope with the strain, Graeme installed the arm on his grandson and cremated the original. When the league eventually forced their way into the laboratory, they did not think to look under the sleeve and glove of the young lad who looked in fear as his grandfather was interrogated, then brutalised and finally murdered. Myst himself was beaten to within an inch of his life and left for dead.

As Myst struggled to pull together what was left of his life after that traumatic experience, he found that the flaw in his grandfather's prototype arm was greater than previously thought, for he learned (rather painfully) that the arm also the potential to glitch and draw a massive charge from his heart, leading to a heart attack. Furthermore, due to the arm's direct link to his heart, there was no way to safely detach the arm without triggering the glitch and risking a fatal heart-attack. Whilst Myst was able to jury-rig a temporary fix for the problem with the materials left behind in Graeme's laboratory, most of the materials that he needs for a more permanent fix were taken by the League.

Thus did Myst find the life of an adventurer thrust upon him. After gathering what provisions he could from his grandfather's laboratory, he set off into the harsh Numerian wastelands, praying to whatever gods of fortune that might be listening that he would find the components needed to fix his arm before the next glitch claims his life. His sojourns have recently brought him to the town of Torch. He suspects that the anomalies of Torch Hill are technological rather than magical in nature, and its relative autonomy from the Technic League makes it an ideal place for him to begin his search for the components he needs to fix his arm before it kills him.

If you permit, Myst will start play with a defective robotic arm that grants no mechanical benefit (it is mainly there to explain his grit mechanic and to be his reason for adventuring). We can work out when he finds the necessary parts to repair the arm, at which point I will pay the cost of a full robot arm to 'repair' it.

I will be simulating the covet charge deed mechanic as Myst channeling a bioelectric charge through his robotic arm. As the charge comes from his heart, he can only do so a limited number of times per day (limited by his grit) without endangering his life. Bursts of adrenaline (when he regains grit) often allow him to stretch that limit, but until he perfects the arm (hitting level 11 and getting the signature deed), he knows he needs to use it sparingly.

Mechanics-wise, Mystiel will be very straight-forward, being a single-classed techslinger.

Personality:

Myst is courteous, friendly and easy-going, ready to help those in need and with a particular fondness for children and cats. He has some skill in medicine and is sometimes called upon as a doctor, and though the availability of divine magic limits the demand for his skills, he is always happy to offer medical advice when asked. Despite his genial nature, however, he never seems to let anyone get too close and often avoids questions about his past or the reason for his glove. Even those who seem closer to him are only vaguely told (with an evasive smile) that he suffered an injury sometime ago and is looking for a way treat it.

In short: a friendly neighbourhood doctor with a mysterious past.

Mystiel is secretive only because he does not want to advertise the true nature of his arm, but it will inevitably come to light the first time he uses a technological firearm in battle, ideally after he has come to trust the rest of the party. At that time, he will share with them his past with the Technic League and ask that they keep his secret.

Kasatha can be mighty strong if built right, their AC is high and they can make 4 attacks at level 1 though they take a -2 if they are fighting with their fists if they took Multiweapon fighting. But they are very unique and a lot of people like them.

If you allowed them I would be playing an Unchained Monk Kasatha

All right. Go for it.

Applicants so far
-Aada Bladotter-Elf Cleric of Calistria
-Dr. Mystiel Sange-Plumekith Aasimar Techslinger

For Doctor Mystiel, having the robot arm is fine.

How would you feel about the Instructor Archetype. Or would you allow Savage technologist to be used on the bloodrager?

The instructor archetype could be interesting.

I have had an idea for an areo/ather kineticist. I would like to say this would be my first PbP game so I may make a few mistakes if I do end up playing.

backstory:
Cade was 6 when his mother died and hisstep father sent him to live with his aunt and uncle. This left cade feeling alone and unwanted for the longest time he could imagine. That is until he discovered the wonders of... Electricaty. He had been taken in as an aprentic to khonnir Baine and showed great interest in technology and magic.

He was finally happy living with khonnir and val (and anyone else who wants to have a tie with those two) but now that torch has gone out and the technic league is more a looming threat than an anoyance he has joined up with others in town to go and find out what has caused the disaster that threatens to ruin his new found happiness

My Wizard, to hedge my bets I'm applying to multiple games including a kingmaker. So I need to finish it if I'm chosen.

The name will change depending on how many I get into if any. Harman is a wizard obsessed with learning, his father was a trader, when he came back from Numeria he raved about the fantastic things he saw and gave young Harman a burned out silver disc (maybe). Harman spent years honing his magical powers but mostly kept his head in the books at his university eventually becoming a scholar there. As he got older he got more and more dissatisfied with his life and decided to leave the confines of his academy. Taking a student who'd been denied entrance based on money concerns he headed off for numeria to see the wonders for himself and study the great sky ships that brought them there.

Alrighty, I'm running this campaign, but I would love to play it too. If you're okay with the meta/not knowing meta! I always wanted to play that Savage Technonologist Barbarian archetype.

Not applying (I'm running the campaign myself, currently under recruitment, and was just having a look at the other recruitment threads) but as I'm sure you'll be aware the player's guide has this:

"For story reasons, the Iron Gods Adventure Path assumes that there are no PC kasathas. You’ll need your GM’s permission to play a kasatha, because if you do, several plot elements woven throughout Iron Gods will need to be adjusted."

I'm okay with meta knowledge as long as you don't use it.

For Derpdidruid, as a note, it's usually best to have a character sheet mostly done, minor stuff like equipment can wait until you're picked. It's just a small way to show that you're (semi-)serious about being in the game.

Applicants so far...
-Aada Bladotter, elf cleric of calistria
-Dr. Mystiel Sange, Plumekith Aasimar Techslinger
-Harman Ragdul, Human Wizard

Waiting on character sheets for
-Karstarke
-Grizzly
-Nerd of the Year
-Derpdidruid
-Dave Herman

Just found out that my home group plans on running iron gods after skulls and shackles... Gana have to bow out of the running, they would never be alright with meta knowledge.

Hi, applying as Thelx, an Android bard. Character is ready to go except spells and gear.

If it matters, I have applied to a couple of different Iron Gods campaigns with this character. They all have different deadlines for recruitment, with this one being the soonest, so if I am accepted to this I will withdraw from the others

Still interested. I'm just trying to decide between an investigator or a Magus. Or maybe throw a Spellslinger into the mix there somewhere. Iron Gods is just screaming at me to make a Pc with a gun of some sort. :)

Would like to submit Io Ren for you Iron gods campaign

Io Ren

Hatred for the Technic lead will need a little more flushing out but I'll work further on it if he gets picked.
Otherwise if there are any questions please let me know.

Dotting for interest,

would a Kitsune Mesmerist be acceptable?

I am offering a character I built for another Iron Gods game but was turned down. Can you check him out? I will upgrade him to your rules as soon as I can. He's a 1/2 Elf Summoner (Synthesist) built using the Unchained rules.

I would like to submit Rhea, cleric of Briegh. Been trying to get in to IG for a while, and I refuse to get discouraged, haha! Rhea's been a tabletop character of mine for about 3 years.

I'm a roleplayer not a powergamer so sorry for any mistakes...She's not built for thumping monsters. Just having fun in pbp games!

Lashunta and Occult classes allowed?

Probably a variation on this character, though this version was built for gestalt, will rebuild without the slayer side.

If psychic's and/or Lashunta are a no, then I'll have another think.

Rogar was an unsuccessful applicant to another Iron Gods game. I've just finished changing him to fit your character creation rules.

The only non-hardcover things I can find in his build are the Eldritch Guardian fighter archetype and the Mauler familiar archetype (both from the familiar folio). EG replaces the first two fighter bonus feats with a familiar that can share your combat feats. It also changes bravery a little bit. The mauler trades out the more spellcaster-y bits of the familiar for something a bit more melee focused.

I was planning on taking improved familiar at level 7 to get him a clockwork familiar (Bestiary 5 or AP#63). The plan is to get a clockwork armadillo (inspired by this) who would act as a flanking partner.

If these are a problem, let me know and I'll drop them, just keeping Rogar as a straight up foehammer.

As for character progression - he'd be a melee damage dealer / tank who will eventually use his massive hammer to bull rush people all over the place.

I can post at least once a day (usually more) during the week. Weekends might be trickier but will usually be fine. I'm in the UK so I'm a few hours ahead of EST.

Keldor is updated.

Grizzly here, wearing the mask of Coulten Stormstrider, who would very much like to join your game.

Amsheagar here with my submission of Ruzu Furskin, the Mesmerist that will stick in your mind.

I just need to work on the background a little..

EDIT: For clarification, that's Saturday going into Sunday.

Kaziya here was built for an Iron Gods game that sadly fell apart. I am very fond of her and would love to get her in a game. I have to tweak a thing or two about her (point buy, etc.) to fit your creation guidelines, but other than that she is good to go.

Mechanics-wise, she's built to handle tech: traps, item crafting, you name it. She'll get firearm proficiency at Lvl 2, and focus on being mobile artillery for the group (Sneak Attack with splash weapons??? Bwahahahaha!!!). Also, item crafting includes cybernetics, so if anyone wants to get kitted out as a Robocop, Kaziya is your gal!

I've also got a series of answers to 11 questions about her from the game she was made for, to give you a bit a background on her and who she is:

Background Tidbits:

1. Kaziya is a shorter Garundi woman (standing at 5'5") with dark skin, short, dark hair, and prominent cheekbones, but lacking the broad shoulders common to many Garundi people. Being also a Tiefling, she possesses inhuman features to the tune of red, pupil-less eyes, fingers that end in small but quite sharp claws, and stunted horns on her forehead. By far, the most noticeable and unnerving manifestation of her Infernal heritage is a long, prehensile tail that rarely sits still and often occupies itself by fidgeting with nearby unattended objects.

Her profession and skill sets lend her to often being dressed for adventuring and skulking, so she typically eschews the bright colors of traditional Garundi clothing in favor of muted blacks and earth tones. She does allow herself some small touches of personal flare: she is fond of traditional, colorful Garundi headwraps and will often wear one unless it is utterly impractical to do so. She also wears a bracelet with a small charm on it. Upon closer inspection, the charm is a holy symbol of Brigh.

2. Kaziya has been in Numeria for roughly the last ten years.

3. Right now, Kaziya is relying on the old "safety in numbers" method. She's hoping being part of an adventuring group will make her a more difficult target. And if she's able to pick up some of that strange technology scattered about the region along the way, then all the better.

4. Kaziya demonstrates higher-than-average familiarity with Numerian technology, though is often reluctant to explain how or why. She's always eager to take a look at any new tech that crosses the party's path.

5. Bringing up the League to Kaziya is a guaranteed method to ensure she doesn't speak to you for the rest of the day.

6. Kaziya hails from The Grand Duchy of Alkenstar in Garund.

7. Kaziya is surly, sarcastic and lacking in trust to a degree that boarders on paranoia. She is also inherently good natured, and will often mask her compulsion to do the right thing behind a cloud of cynicism. She is also the type to do something nice for a comrade while they are not present, then deny or dismiss it if they bring it up later.

8. Kaziya's unique set of skills and Roguish abilities arise from a combination of being born an intellectual prodigy, formal university training, and a long, long tenure in the School of Hard Knocks.

9. Kaziya's preferred weaponry is personal explosives. Her natural talents as a chemist and engineer means she can usually concoct her own, and the natural deftness of her Tiefling heritage ensures her payloads hit their mark more often than not. She prefers the firearms of her homeland over more conventional ranged weapons, but at the moment does not possess any and is making due with a bow. When forced into melee, she overwhelmingly prefers her natural claws over any manufactured weapon.

10. Kaziya is largely agnostic. She is aware their is empirical, every day evidence that the gods do, in fact, exist and she does not deny this. However, her dedication to her craft and the often pressing tumult of her life has kept her from ever developing any significant religious identity. She does know a handful of prayers to Brigh, and often invokes them when working on a project or as an invocation of good fortune.

11. Most of Kaziya's adult life has been preoccupied by either her pursuit of science and technology or simply trying to stay alive. As such, she has never spent much time debating the virtue of personal freedom over an orderly society. She chafes at rules that impede her personal pursuits, but has equal distaste for those who disrupt society to such a degree as to prevent important work from getting done. While she has a bit of a hard heart, her experiences over the last several years have imparted on her an understanding that vileness in the world will not be overcome unless those with the ability to oppose it stand up and do so.

I wish everyone the best of luck. Looks like quite a few fun characters in this recruitment :)

Yes. A lot of good applicants for this AP.

Would you allow a Psion from Dreamscarred Press?

I have an idea for a psionic android. I've always wanted to do psionics with sci-fi, I think the two fit really well together.

Race would be Android.

If you can get it up, by tomorrow night, I'll consider it.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Iron gods baby!!!

:D

Anyone else checking this form for updates lol.

Aye.

Don't wanna get too excited, might spill me ale!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Okay. Accepted applicants are...

Rogar Hammersmith, the Foe hammer
Doctor Mystiel Sange, the Tech slinger
Rhea Stardust of Brightbeard
Kaziya Hellfallen, the Rogue
Ruza Furskin the Mesmerist

I couldn't bring myself to cut the list down to four, so I'll run it with 5 and up the difficulty a little bit.

All that wait, O' well. Hoping try 3 is better.

Yeah, this is the first time in 6 or so tries that one of my characters has been accepted.

Oh my gosh thank you! Haha! *dances jig*

Ah, fantastic! So thrilled to give Kaziya a spin. Thank you for selecting her!

Can't wait to get started! :3

Thank you for choosing me!
Lets crack some android skulls!

Locked and loaded. Thanks Matt. =)

A wuh-oh! A tiefling and an aasimar in the same party? **Odd Couple theme music plays**

Oh, i am starting a home game this week, my characters are a Dhampire, a Aasimar, a Kitsune and a Dwarf..... Though they only know that there is 2 humans, an elf and a dwarf.... I am allowing them to find out what each other are as time goes on.

Myst is a scion of humanity, and in fact fully believes himself to be human. ;)

It's up!!!

I should probably post the link to the gameplay thread.
