Chronicle Sheets and Gunsmithing:

So, I recently DMed the first part of Fires of Creation, and I'm curious about how a few things work.

On the chronicle sheet, there are several guns available for purchase. But, the Pathfinder Society version of the Gunsmithing feat bans all characters from purchasing a firearm unless they have the feat in the first place.

Does that mean that guns on those sheets cannot be purchased at all?

I believe that Chronicle access overwrites all other concerns for legality. (Excepting that season 0 DnD junk gets converted to its Pathfinder equivalent.)

My understanding has always been that the chronicle only lets you bypass the fame requirement to purchase items or purchase items in smaller quantities or less charges. All other class/ability/feat requirements still need to be met to buy those things.

The only other item I can think of that is restricted by a class feature/feat is poison. I'm pretty sure if a poison appears on a chronicle, then anyone can purchase it. I would assume the same would be true for firearms. Remember that a chronicle sheet is a legal source as far as the additional resources are concerned. If something is otherwise illegal and appears on a chronicle sheet, then it is legal for the holder of that chronicle sheet (within the limits set forth on the chronicle).

I see where the confusion is coming from, as the entries for Inner Sea World Guide and Ultimate Combat clearly prohibit a PC from purchasing a firearm from those sources unless she has the Gunsmithing feat. Technology Guide just has a blanket ban on all of the weapons, barring their appearance on a Chronicle sheet. The intention is that a technological weapon's appearance on a Chronicle sheet—be it a chainsaw or a laser pistol—overrides this and applies to all classes.

Right now I can only think of two instances of a basic firearm showing up on a Chronicle sheet, and both were for modules. I don't know if there was ever a ruling on whether that overrode the Additional Resources page's statement.

Thank you very much. This has been an incredible help.

Which modules were those? If you know.

Giving out information about what things appear on particular chronicles is considered bad form in PFS so don't expect an answer. The reason is to reduce metagaming of players trying to play just the right scenarios/modules for a particular character.

Does heighten metamagic feat raise the save dc of spells cast from a staff.

Using Staves: Staves use the wielder’s ability score and relevant feats to set the DC for saves against their spells.

no

Heighten spell requires the spell to come from a higher level spell slot. the staff doesn't have those. It would also allow absurd things like casting daylight as a 10th level spell or something.

What does metamagic have to do with a 6 month old thread about Gunslinger ammunition?

There is either no explanation or the explanation would cost the last sanity point in the pile. either way, just answer and move on..
