New people?

Hey folks, I'm new (as is surely obvious from my post count, duh). I didn't see any "designated new people thread", so I figured I'd make one. I hope that's ok. (I have been on boards where it was frowned upon, but didn't see anything in the community guidelines or anything)

So anyway. I've read a lot of Pathfinder fiction, I like it a lot. But I've never been much for playing RPGs (mostly because I live in a fairly rural area, there's probably no gaming group of any sort group within a half-hour of me, much less a Pathfinder group specifically). I've read a lot of other universes, Star Wars, Battletech, 40k, Halo, ASoIaF, etc, but am still fairly new to Golarion etc. This seemed like the place to come to learn more. So...how y'all doin'?

Oh, not too shabby myself, about to walk a mile in the snow. So, can't complain. :-)

Welcome to the community!

I'm glad that you like the world and have delved into the fiction. You might be surprised what gaming opportunities you can find in your area.

Good to have you! I also really enjoy the fiction and am about to finish reading Pathfinder Tales: Pirate' Prophecy tonight.

As Adam noted, a gaming opportunity may be closer than you think. You might take a look at our site's Play-by-Post (PbP) area, which facilitates players running adventures by means of forum posts. There's also a vibrant online gaming community that uses programs like Fantasy Grounds 2 and Roll20 as virtual tabletops to run games in real time with people from all over the globe—I played in one such adventure just this past weekend with friends on the other side of the United States. Finally, there might be some Pathfinder Society organized play events in your area, which make for great games that you can play whenever you want without worrying about the time commitment of a long-term campaign.

And finally, you might find the Pathfinder Tales part of our website rather fun. Some of our more avid readers started running a Pathfinder Tales book club (PTBC) that discusses the several dozen novels published to date, and I am sure they would love to hear what you could contribute.

Welcome!

Welcome aboard the good ship Paizo Ouachitonian!

I own all of the tales novels made to date, John mentions one of my favorites in that series, the "Pirates X" books, promise and prophecy are the current ones. THEY ARE GREAT! If you like pirates, interesting lady nagas, rum, swashbuckling, or any combo of those, you will not be disappointed.

Nearly all of the tales novels I have read I have enjoyed. The web fiction is also good, cheap, and electronic, well worth the low price.

When you guys say Ouachitonian, are you referring to the Ouachita Mountains? I'm in Arkansas, not far from the region.

Oh, and welcome to the boards!

Hey, good to have you. The people here pretty nice, and the boards are run well, so you should do fine. Feel free to ask about whatever comes to mind.

It warms my heart that this still happens.

Welcome to the site. I also really enjoy the Pathfinder Tales. Which one have you read?

Also there is a sub forum where gamers look for other gamers.

Doing well, thanks, and welcome!

I'll admit that I haven't read too many of the Pathfinder Tales, but those I have read I've quite enjoyed.

What I have read are many of the Campaign Setting publications. I've become a very big fan of the Golarion campaign world, and have been using that setting for my own RPGs pretty much exclusively for the past five years or so.

If you're looking to join an actual game but don't have anyone locally to play with, check out the Play-By-Post forums. There are regularly GMs recruiting new players!

Good luck, and see you 'round!

Ah, fresh meat!

Huh?

Whazzat?

But...

Look, if the mandatory beating is...

*sigh*

Fine.

Welcome aboard!

It's the evil captain!

Glad to have you here, Ouachitonian. I gotta say, we have a pretty quality community here, so I'm sure you'll feel quite welcomed here. Hit me up if you need help building anything, I'm a bit of an 'outspoken hero' when it comes to creating class guides. Just don't ask me about anything divine, never touched the stuff.

I can do amazing things with dollar bills, and tape.

Come to the Divine side Jolly, we have bland wafer things and penance!

(Ouachitonia, you shall find the silly and mild insanity levels here on the boards both amusing, we hope, and never ending. And yes, we do like it that way ;) )

I can turn a boulder into a fountain.

See, I knew Cap was really Anubis in disguise!

Bah! Just takes a little hard work, the right tools and stonecunning.

Except for the height (i'm 5'7") I'd be a spot on dwarf in pathfinder. :-)

Right down to the beard, appreciation for fine spirits, skill with an axe and ability to devastate shins with a 20 lb hammer (I've been practicing on my own, don't try at home).

NICE! Very zen Cap.

Just trying to demolish the stereotype of dwarves as dour functional alcoholics that hate everyone. :-)

We're actually passionate, love to laugh, don't put up with excuses, but more then willing to forgive mistakes (b&*~@ing about it isn't getting the work done), works hard to get the hard stuff done first, so the rest will follow, leads by example (I'm not asking someone to do something I wouldn't), enjoys relaxing at the end of a hard day's work, and very private, we don't care what you do off the clock, so don't ask me, very much more personally liberal then they get credit for.

Dwarves and Halflings, that's pretty much my niche for the last thirty years. :-D

T have an Elven Medium for Hell's Rebels I can't wait to use tho, he's gonna be fun. :-)

I've seen this before; the water fountain is protected by a forcefield. Whatever you do, don't try to breach it with a phaser.

Edit: You're free to shoot Wesley with a phaser as much as you like.

So you're saying "Fire at Wil."

Show no mercy.

And for f%+$'s sake, someone find me a g%~$#~n map!!

And people call ME the evil captain...

It's funny how the left handed captain is invariably the evil one... wait a minute.. I'm left handed!

They say that God made only a few perfect people, the rest are right-handed. Frustrating as it is at times in this right-handed world, I'm happy to be left-handed myself. Usually. Being right eye dominant crosses me up sometimes.

1984, Big Sister edition..."Do it to Cosmo, not me, Cosmo!"

I don't get it.

And believe me, I've been trying. :-D

1984 reference is easy, has to do with Liz and Chris always watching comment by Feros.

why the quote:
In the novel 1984, the main character becomes entangled with a woman named Julia, with whom he shares a romantic relationship, along with ideas that go against "Big Brother". The main character is eventually captured by the forces of orthodoxy and tortured. One of the tortures is to put a special cage on his head, with a small door and a rat behind it. The problem is, rats hate being exposed like that, and will go berzerk and chew the crap out of the face of the person wearing the horrible contraption in an attempt to escape. When threatened with this, the main character turns on his lady love and spouts the quote "Do it to Julia, not me, Julia!"
