Carrion Crown Class Conundrum

Advice

Ok, not really a Conundrum but I used that word for alliteration.

I am going to be playing a Carrion Crown Campaign and I would like to pose a few simple questions in regards to class selection WITHOUT SPOILERS.

Say I want to play a Mesmerist, they do not get the ability to mess with undead, slimes and constructs till 3rd level.
How hosed are you levels 1 through 3 in CC? I don't want to be completely (or borderline) useless in combat at the start.
Should I just play a psychic with a charisma discipline instead to get the same sort of feel? They can mess with undead from level 1 already.

If neither sounds like a good option, feel free to suggest another class that uses Charisma as main or secondary like Sorc, Oracle, Swashbuckler (not bard/skald, we got one of those)
Reason why charisma? we need a party face, and our Skald isn't going to cut it, also I like playing face.

Once again I would like to stress, please avoid spoilers in your responses.

Ehh the Campaign is full of Undead from get go.

As far as Facing. There is more ways to go about it than CHA. INT is a very Viable alternative with traits that will turn Face skills into INT based. There are classes that turns skills into other attribute dependent. As well as some feats.

Everyone in the group is going to want an answer to undead. This is the campaign for that. It is like Rise of the Runelords and Giants, You would be best to prepare for fighting them day 1. Remember Undead's Resistances and Immunities would be smart for building your characters.

Are you sure the Skald can not cut it? It is basically a rage bard...Skalds tend to have to be in the right party to really stand out. A funny thing that crossed my Mind was to recommend a Dirge bard to you and let your group get both Raging Song and Inspire courage. Dirge bard is a Archetype that allows your enchantment spells to effect undead enemies. There is a smattering of those kinds of archetypes out there.

Take your time you have plenty of it.

Now my personal favorite is a Gluttony or Necromancy Wizard. Taking the Trait Student of Philosophy can get you INT to most Diplomacy and Bluff. But I skip it and start with a 13 cha. I Have found as a player many Social DCs are not that insanely difficult. By level 8 I can pump it to a 14 and Make a Circlet of persuasion. What would make this style of build strong in this campaign is the ability to command the undead as you come across it. Turning them on dungeons and using them to your groups advantage. Many Undead have nasty effects if you fight them...this will save your front liner from having to take ability damage and other nasty effects. But that is just how I would approach this AP.

Mesmerist can focus on support easily.

Early on, it's not useless but targets will be lacking for mind-affecting spells. Social skills and Painful Stare will come VERY handy.

As long as you can make use of the support/combat abilities early on, you'll have fun. Painful Stare is very good early on in this AP.

I recommend you go Mesmerist with some hand-crossbow usage to trigger Painful Stare.

If you are into other CHA-based classes, a lot of things could work. Medium is THE class for this AP. Dirge Bard comes to mind as a particularly fitting combo too.

Oracle's and sorcerers are both fine. I wouldn't play any of the occult classes given their more narrow focuses (mesmerist and medium at the bottom of then list for their own reasons).

Summoner is also fairly strong. I think those could be my top three picks here.

+1 to what Secret Wizard said, especially about the Dirge Bard. I mean come on, you all meet at a funeral. This hook is just great for them.
