Grey,

Probably, but he is there and in some ways it's just the sort of thing you'd expect from Booster

True but I expected more like Booster ending up on Earth-45 maybe...

Holy Time Bubble Batman

Anyone getting a feel that DC is laying a foundation for something

Grey,

Not sure. I mean I see other things that make me wonder if Batman 66 is just it's own thing.

Also the fact solicits had more weird stuff like Wally and Donna having a romance. Seriously DC?

66' is totally it's own thing, but lately it just feels like DC is dropping little bits of Legion in different places plus a few other touches of Time Travel stuff, to kind of wet people's whistle as it were. I think they are getting ready for a big official Legion return. Things like that Batman 66' just kind of remind people why the Legion was so loved in the first place.

Plus that's just a fun cover

FERRO!

Grey,

It is a fun cover, I cannot deny that.

I've been saying for a long time that the Batman: The Animated Series version is the One True Batman.

At least then, 20 minutes our time was several hours or days, Batman time.

*sigh* let's not do this...

Are the May (July) solicitations out already? Or did that pic come back from a few weeks in the future?

Damon,

The May, June AND July Solicits are all out now.

Freehold: we can disagree about this and still be friends. It's cool. :)

oh no, I wasn't talking about disagreeing with you. I was talking about the thread turning into one true wayism.

Ah, I get ya. Yeah, I'm with you, let's not. Apologies for the misunderstanding. I'm in the middle of packing for an inter-state move (heading to Oregon!), so my brain is a tad bit fried.

Case in point, I've been awake since 3am PDT, because I can't sleep from the stress. So it's reading the forums until I can detail my brain enough to sleep again. Wheee.

Today's Wednesday, though, so new comics soon!

I always found my best stress releif was the right sort of video game. Stuff that isn't flashy with lots of crap but more slow and stealthy. Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven was a goto game for a long time. Just Sneak around as a ninja, imagine a guard as someone who gave me a hard time that day and Stealth KIll

These days it's hicking in Skyrim. Remarkably peaceful that, just walking through the moutains, not looking for anything in particular.

That or get a Cat. Cats are great and calming when they aren't making your life hell

as much as I love tenchu, I don't hold a candle to my wife. She was coldly efficient in the game, death came on silent wings to the deserving.

So...comics from DC right?

So Rebirth related stuff!

Spoiler:
Batman 21 (The Button Part One!)

Saturn Girl shows up and yells about a fight in a hockey match that apparently is about to become a death match.

Batman touches the Button to Psycho Pirate's mask and see Papa Wayne aka FLashpoint Thomas Wayne/Batman.

Eobard shows up and Batman fights. He almost wins (It was a great fight and easily one of my top 5 moments of 2017 in comics.)

Eobard is dead...again. I guess Doctor M didn't like him watching him.

Flash is uncharacteristically late.

Superman and Trinity both deal with the fact there's some force that turned Superman into TWO Supermen. But how that will play out isn't clear.

Plus Hamilton County is a lot weirder than Smallville, Kansas. I mean squids, missing Batmen and now a girl that bend fire? Sheesh.

Forgot Charles! I'll erase that post.

So can we talk for a moment about the hearstrings that got pulled all over the place in this week's Astro City?

Because... damn.

Flash:
Is this uncharacteristic? I haven't read Flash since they went post-flashpoint and completely screwed with his story and costume... but Barry used to be ALWAYS late for everything. It was a defining personality trait.

Did they really change that much since he's been back?

DC ANNOUNCES CREATION OF DARK MATTER BRANDED BOOKS!

Comic Quest was present at the Diamond Retail Summit on Thursday when DC announced an exciting new line of books primarily bonded by the high level of artistic craftmanship reflected by the artists included in this brand. Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, John Romita, Jr. and Andy Kubert were all present on this panel and each verbalized their intent and desire to make these Master Series branded books a commitment to a high level of collaborative creativity between the comic book artist and writer. The excitement that these artists communicated about this venture was apparent as they look toward making quality comics.

Characters from each series will first appear in the previously announced "Dark Nights: Metal."

“What excites me most is that this series of books takes full advantage of the talent and vision of the creative team,” said Dan DiDio. “Comics are a visual medium, and with these titles, the artists are working hand in hand with the writers in shaping the look and direction of their characters.”

DC's artist-hyping announcement comes a couple weeks after a Marvel executive told retailers artists are harder to promote than writers. DC co-Publisher Lee was one of the rock-star artists who left Marvel to co-found Image Comics in 1992. The first wave of DC Universe Dark Matter titles includes:

THE SILENCER, debuting in September, written by Dan Abnett with art by John Romita Jr. SIDEWAYS, debuting in September, written by Dan DiDio and Justin Jordan with art by Kenneth Rocafort
IMMORTAL MEN, debuting in October, written by James Tynion IV with art by Jim Lee
DAMAGE, debuting in October, written by Robert Venditti with art by Tony S. Daniel
NEW CHALLENGERS, debuting in December, written by Scott Snyder with art by Andy Kubert
DARK NIGHTS: METAL, debuting in August, written by Scott Snyder with art by Greg Capullo

Dark Nights,

DC's answer to what they're going to do about all the Darkness in the DC. Move it to a new line!

This was the FlashPoint Reverse Flash, so no big loss.

Charles,

I thought it was both of them since I think both got merged together much like Superman did.

I mean that's why he got hit with lightning...

Scarab Sages

When did that happen?
Let me guess, during New52?

Charles,

No...Action Comics and Superman cross over of Superman Reborn...

Superman Volume 4, Issues 18-20.

Action Comics Volume 1, Issues 975 through 976.

The lighting of the merger hit Thawne.

Then in Flash Volume 5, Issue 19, Thawne wakes up and realizes what happened.

I saw Thawne getting hit and waking up in Flash, but I didn't see him getting hit or merged in the Superman Reborn books. I'll have to go back and reread them.

Charles,

Well it wasn't so much a "MERGE" as "incorporation" but that's basically the subtext of that towards the end of Flash #19. Especially if you compare his Nu-52 costume to the one he was wearing before.

Plus he had RED Lightning.

I'll take your word for it. I never saw him in New52.

Soooooo....

How about today's issue of The Flash, eh?

Jem,

Yeah that was a doozy. Also I still like to know who the hell KILLED Eobard! Cause I don't think God does Speed Force...or radiation.

Blue Beetle taking some interesting twists.

1) Most of Ted's pre-52 history appears to be intact, (including his League days), with the exception of him getting shot in the head
2) Jamie is now wearing Ted's old costume because he lost the scarab. Upside Scarab seems to have upgraded his basic physical stats, so even though he lost it he is still above normal human

Speed Force vs Anti-Speed Force. Does that mean Thawne gets his powers from the anti-matter universe?

Not that we've seen. Apparently, he devised it all by himself, because he's a Super Genius.

But he's a Wile E. Coyote style Super Genius, in that he could use that knowledge and power to really truly change the world, but instead he uses it to hunt down a target that constantly eludes him. Wile E. does it for lunch, but Thawne does it because of wounded pride, so he's not even got as firm a motivation as a cartoon coyote.

Thomas and Greylurker: speaking of Ted Kord, did you notice the big blue elephant in the "Mystery Room" on the Watchtower?

Thomas: Speaking of big and blue, I think the answer to your question shares a name with an island city in New York.

Hm...

Yeah I saw the Bug too, and with Ted's career back in continuety it makes sense too.

But that's a room full of "wrong" items. Things that they found that shouldn't exist/they couldn't make sense of, or things that they made that were too powerful.

Ted's Bug is on the first half of that, I think. A thing they found that didn't make sense.

Well, Ted had more than one Bug. I just reread Infinite Crisis last month including the Countdown issue... and one of the last things he did was break a spare Bug out of deep storage...

What confused me was seeing Dr. Fate's helmet in there. Didn't I hear that there was already a new Dr. Fate running around just recently??

Phantom,

There's been a couple of times Fate's been seen. First was when he had his own series, then later when Kent V Nelson showed up. Now apparently he's back in Blue Beetle, but his helmet is also in Watchtower lockup.

Jem,

Yeah I know it might but I'd like further proof than just blue fire.
I also saw what was in the JL Watchtower. LOTS of callbacks/easter eggs besides Ted's bug.

Charles,

I don't think it's "anti-speed force" so much as "Anti-Barry."

From what I remember from the recent Fate series Kent dosen't have the Helmet, acording to Nabu he no longer needs it. The one he wears is part of his costume and not the true helm.

OTOH Khalid is supposed to have it last I checked so how it ended up in the vault I don't know. Possibly stored there while Khalid gets more training, but I would think it would be safer in the Tower of Fate

Grey,

Maybe but if you read the last couple issues of Blue Beetle, it's clear Fate has the helmet....some how. It's literally RIGHT there.

I'd heard he had a series, I just wasn't sure which earth it's a part of. Blue Beetle though would clear that up nicely. So yeah... helmet shouldn't be there... and I think there some cosmic/gravity rods too from Starman... but at least there isnt' an earth 1 of him yet...

The Rod is currently with Stargirl I thought...

DC continuity is kind of rough at the moment...

It's nice seeing Lobo back in action, plus Batman having to deal with someone who is not afraid of him one little bit. In someways it reminds me of Lobo and Dox from the L.E.G.I.O.N. days, only Batman is somewhat less of a prick.

Weaponizing mythological items for mass production, then selling them on the black market. Not sure I've seen that one before

Curious to see if the poison will be long lasting or just for the story. A Lobo who can't regenerate is still dangerous but it certainly lowers his power level.

Grey,

I'm assuming he'll get over it. I mean if he can't, he's not much good to the league.

As for Aegeus' weaponry, eh. I guess not everyone can buy and sell alien tech.

Thomas Seitz wrote:

A considerable understatement for several decades now.

Damon,

Yeah but even more so now that it was...10 years ago. or even 15 years ago.

Rough enough that I gave up reading during the Flashpoint reshuffle, with some bits apparently changed, and others not, even when the newly changed history contradicted the stuff that was still the same. I read for enjoyment, not to get continuity headaches.
Reading this discussion about the new set of retcons is interesting, but still not enough to get my wallet open again.

Scarab Sages

Doc Fate has been a white hot mess for many years now. Still entertaining, though. Except for the art and overdependence on Egyptian myth, I loved the most recent series.

I heard (somewhere) they were planning to bring Kent Nelson back full time as Fate. I'd be cool with that. I'd also be cool with them keeping Khalid, only with better art and maybe a different writer.
