Blood of Shadows just introduced EXTRA NINJA TRICK as a feat. :D

Woot! That wasn't a feat before?! XD

Dark Archive

Wow, there's an actual Extra Trick feat? Rad. The builds in my Ninja guide are mostly set on feats, though. Maybe I'll go back and sikply add it as a suggestion.

Speaking of that, SW, think the Ninja writeup is good to go?

Need to check it twice but it looks good - I'd probably take katana over greatsword though, no need to waste a feat for what amounts to +1.5 average damage and less crit.

Can't wait until this gets done in 2046!

I'm sure once Secret Wizard is less busy we'll see the content release amp up. Till then, patience.

I think you underestimate the amount of content he has to go through. ;)

Hey Secret Wizard. Can you make a template for a class and post it? If so, I'll take Ranger, Slayer, and Skald, excluding art.

Secret Wizard,

Some Recommended Text Updates.

Existing:
There are 4 types of Skill Rank progressions - 2 per level, 4 per level, 6 per level and 8 per level (exclusive to Rogues).

Promise to do so! Thanks for the help!

Yes some sort of template for design would be good - I'd love to do a Herald Caller archetype for cleric

Dark Archive

Yo, Secret Wizard. I just noticed a mistake on my part when it comes to the Summoner guide. Specifically, the build for the Tag team Summoner/Eidolon combo. In particular, the Summoner takes Outflank at level 5 when it doesn't meet the prerequisites.

Super Reach Bros wrote:

(5) Outflank

(7) Power Attack

The easiest thing to do is to swap those two feats. It doesn't mess with the build all that much, since the Eidolon gets Outflank at level 6 so there's a one level gap either way.

Also, the Kineticist section should be ready fairly soon(c).

Even incomplete, this has helped my wife and I with some basic stuff getting started. Thank you! :)

Dark Archive

Okay! I have new content and some updates to old content. I'll sort them by class.

Kineticist
The guide is HERE and ready for review! As before, it has placeholder art. Let me know if this is an issue, SW.

Ninja
- Did a small update to the Brute build for the Ninja. As per people's advice, I replaced the Greatsword with a Kanata, shifting around feats and talents to make use of the space afforded by not having Martial Weapon Proficiency. It can be found HERE for review.

Summoner
- Super Reach Bros build has a tiny mistake that I missed in late-state rebuilds: The Playstyle mentions taking Intimidate as a class skill but the traits do not match. Resilient should be changed to Bully.
- I screwed up the Eidolon in the Skill Support Summoner build, and one of the Evolution choices was not legal. I have rearranged the Eidolon's build accordingly, while also trimming that fat when it comes to Evolution selection. The updated Skill Eidolon can be found HERE for copy-paste convenience.

Rosc how would you feel about inheriting the guide?

Im 100% swamped with life. D:

Dark Archive

I'd still need you to take care of the visual in the google docs, since I'm not terribly good at it. But in terms of the writing portions? Yeah, I could make a project out of that.

It's as good an excuse as any to actually read up on the other Occult classes anyway.

If you don't have anyone taking care of Sorcerer or Oracle, I'd be happy to try and take a crack at either or both of them.

Rosc, gimme a gmail address so I can give you full editing rights to all docs!

Sure! But make sure you liaison with Rosc instead of me :3

Dark Archive

SW, I wanna send you my Email but I Can't send you Private Messages.

Really awesome guide ! thanks for your work. I think linking this in appendix II can be useful :

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1o91Z-s0R7Vf2Ujj1lFqGC5W--9JOyU0I6uC9XRI R5to/edit

It explain how to use your ability for other things that the classical use (eg add charisma mod to AC).
I know it's on the array of optimization and contain third party source so it doesn't suit exactly your guide but I think it can be really usefull for the people who hesitate to take a class because it's MAD. (It was really usefull for me at least).

Also, maybe a few line on choosing your character for a group. If the other players have already fixed thier choice this can limit yours if you want a balanced group.

I could try writing something for Mesmerist.

Wasn't on the PRD yet.

Mesmerist
Here's a write-up for the mesmerist. Once again, the images could definitely do some tweaking.

Secret Wizard & Rosc, how does the future of this project look like?

Dark Archive

Stuff for Secret Wizard:
Screw it. My tag is roscman at gmail dot com, hit me up sometime. While you're at it, know any decent google docs tutorials? My knowledge on layouts is downright infantile and I don't wanna screw this up.

Nice! The images look pretty sweet to me. I'll put this in the "to add" pile once I get things going.

Mighty Glacier wrote:

And speaking of that! The future most likely involves me looking over tutorials and trying to fill in more classes. I wanna see this thing done sometime sooner than later.

For my reference as much as anyone else's, here's a list of classes and
what needs to be done as of the date of this post. I'll stake a claim in the next class very soon, but I don't wanna make that sort of call when I'm short on sleep. Let me know if I missed anything.

Completed and in the guide: Barbarian, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Rogue, Alchemist, Antipaladin, Cavalier, Summoner, Gunslinger, Magus, Arcanist, Bloodrager, Brawler, Spiritualist

Completed but not added to the guide: Kineticist (Art Pending), Ninja (Art Pending), Mesmerist

Claimed and In Progress: Witch, Sorcerer/Oracle

Up for grabs: Ranger, Wizard, Inquisitor, Samurai, Hunter, Investigator, Shaman, Skald, Slayer, Swashbuckler, Warpriest, Occultist, Medium, Psychic

New to the boards.... amazing guide!!

Rosc wrote:

Pretty sure I submitted my witch guides already. If you need help with other stuff, I can look at some other class. I'll let you know if I have time after easter.

Really? Sorry, I must have missed it in the shuffle. Care to repost a link for me?

Tiny Update: SW handed me me the keys to the main doccument. I gotta head to work, but when I get back I'll try get the recently completed classes into the guide as well as start work on... let's say the Ranger. Yeah, I'll make a Ranger guide next.

It wasn't here on the forums, though, so it's not on your end. link to doc

Here's the Oracle guide for review, sorry for taking so long. Link

Dark Archive

I live! Better yet, I've upgraded myself from Ten Thumbed Chimp to Endearingly Clumsy Apprentice so I think I've got a hang of this. Now then, for updates.

Kineticist Added!
Ninja Added!
Mesmerist Added!

NotEspi wrote:

Witch Added!

I've said it before, but Love the art you picked for this one. Guide's pretty solid. Only two builds, though? I know the Witch is a fairly binary class, but perhaps one can wrangle a decent blaster out of it? And have you considered Scar Hex for the support build?

AthezDevoux wrote:

Oracle Added!*

Nice guide. I love the builds, especially the Steel Sentinel. Using thematic colors for each build's text is a nice touch.
* = Made a small change. The Steel Sentinel starts off with Power Attack listed as a feat, and I'm pretty sure an Oracle can't take that at first level. Thus, I swapped it with Dirty Fighting.

To all the guide writers, let me know if I mucked something up. And Secret Wizard, if you want permission to edit the new guides I posted, just let me know and send a thing.

thank you made stuff so much easier

I have considered scar, but you can't cast spells through it, which is a shame.

In addition, a table-specific ruling needs to be made on scar-cackle interaction. It's quite clunky as it is. To my knowledge there is no official FAQ on this, and that could be an issue. Since the guides were supposed to be PFS-friendly, I've decided to not use it. Cackle is, after all, what witches are mostly about.

As for a 3rd build, I was toying with the cartomancer archetype. I'll get another peek at it and give you something during the week.

Dark Archive

Welp. Bit of a delay, but I have good news.

Ranger Added!

That last one took me a while. I love that the Ranger exists, but I just couldn't get excited about actually working on it. I'll be working on the Vigilante next. Gotta love that fresh class smell.

Edit: It's funny how many of the main guide's tables were thrown out of perfect symmetry by the addition of a new class. Never mind a class that registers as two different kinds of BAB.

Dark Archive

Whoops. Fixed the privacy setting with the Ranger guide. It's actually available for view now!

Dark Archive

Ahem. Been a while, but I've got one up.

Vigilante Added!

I've also had some PMs from people who want to contribute, so allow me to update the list. I'll go ahead and put the Medium on on my personal to-do list.

Completed and in the guide: Barbarian, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Rogue, Alchemist, Antipaladin, Cavalier, Summoner, Gunslinger, Magus, Arcanist, Bloodrager, Brawler, Spiritualist, Ranger, Witch, Mesmerist, Oracle, Kineticist, Ninja

Completed but not added to the guide: Skald (review pending)

Claimed and In Progress: Inquisitor, Medium

Up for grabs: Wizard, Samurai, Hunter, Investigator, Shaman, Slayer, Swashbuckler, Warpriest, Occultist, Psychic, Sorcerer

We're getting closer to finishing this!

Love the Medium but always struggle building it, so love to see what you come up with.

I really wish I could help, cause this guide is great, but I don't know many of the remaining classes that well and don't play pfs so have no idea about whats legal or not.

Scarab Sages

Secret Wizard wrote:

Brawler + Bloodrager added!

Not sure if I'll include Guide links, the idea is that players simply learn to analyze a class, stop optimizing so much and just build sensibly.

That being said, I did create an Id Rager monstrosity.

Just found this thread, great guide! Care to share a really short thumbnail on the Id Rager creation of yours? I imagine it might be like the Urban Raker except without a need for hands-free weapons, and could use the Hatred phantom for bonuses to hit and damage. (Or maybe Anger if you managed to get slams from somewhere?)

(Apologies for the necromancy!)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Honestly, Anger by itself is fine. Sure, you miss out on the extra larger slams, but getting Power Attack as a consolation feat is not bad at all.

I don't even remember what I thought I'd build.

Scarab Sages

I could see Jealousy working as a tank, with the abilities giving enemies a hard time when they choose to not attack the Rager. Also, Ragers advance HD faster than the related Phantom would, so the aura DCs would be a little more effective. Jealousy's skills and bonus Deceitful feat aren't nearly as nice as other phantoms, however.

Enough of that for this thread though. Thanks for the reply, and thanks to Rosc as well for maintaining the guide in its current state!

Good to see some ongoing free character selection stuff. ;)

It's been a while, hasn't it? The beast is getting close to it's first anniversary! There's no better motivator to get off my butt and get back to work, so let's have at it.

Medium Added!
Investigator Added!
Skald Added!*
Inquisitor Added!
Minor Tweaks to other classes! (Ninja has Extra Ninja Trick listed under feats, Vigilante has its proper source book listed, etc)

*I have no idea what's making it tilt to the side, especially since the document that I'm copying it from is perfectly aligned.

An extra special thanks to the contributors of the above guides, and an apology for leaving your hard work on the shelf all these months. Rest assured your work is still greatly appreciated! The end is inevitable, but help is always appreciated. For those who might want to take a crack at it, here's an updated list of what still needs to be done.
In Progress: Hunter, Swashbuckler
Open: Wizard, Samurai, Shaman, Slayer, Swashbuckler, Warpriest, Occultist, Psychic, Sorcerer

I'll take this opportunity to set aside my biases and try to take a crack at the Swashbuckler next.

Good news, everyone!

Swashbuckler added!

It was surprisingly fun to examine my favorite class to rib. I do enjoy its flavor, and if I were ever driven to roll one up, I've even got a couple of ways that I could enjoy playing it.

Next up, I'll do a write-up for the Wizard.

I can't help but feel that Twist Away would be another feat that should warrant mention for the Swashbuckler, since it also helps with the low Fortitude save problem.

I might give warpriest a go if it's not taken yet. Let me know, Rosc.

Swashbucker updated!
- Expert Fencer example build is missing it's starting feat. Build buffed and readjusted to compensate
- Knife Thrower's build redone due to illegal feat arrangement. Ricochet Shot removed because it requires you to eat another feat tax or be a Fighter. Point Blank Master removed because wording will produce table variation as to its legality regarding thrown weapons. I am seriously tempted to just change this into an Archer build.
- Will update Thrower build later once I can remember the magic item that allows it to not need to buy a dozen +1 Daggers.

Medium updated!
- Fixed a typo in the Six Mask Dancer build. Meant to write "Dervish Dance" instead of "Slashing Grace" for its 3rd level feat.

NotEspi wrote:

Have at it, friend. Warpriest is wide open.

Blinkback Belt or Sharding

Wizard Added!

Thinking up 3 Wizard builds was surprisingly tricky once I got into the nitty gritty of feats. But hey, it's out of the way. I'll pick up the Sorcerer next, since it should be a simple followup.

Warpriest guide was sent to me and it's looking pretty good, I just need to give it a once-over and add it to the main guide but right now it's 5 AM and I could use some sleep.

Blinkback Belt or Sharding

Turns out I was thinking of the Doubling Dagger. I'll head back and give the Swashbuckler guide a micro update.

Awesome guide!

One suggestion on the Rogue: If you're going Canny Tumble + Circling Mongoose, the Scout Archetype takes away Uncanny Dodge for zero gain.

At 4th level Scout lets you sneak attack if you can charge. Sounds neat and all but really very limited. Wait a level pick up Canny Tumble at 5th and you accomplish the same thing without having to charge. At 8th level Scout lets you do what you could already do at 5th level with Canny Tumble (move 10' and sneak attack), except at 8th level, with the Swashbucker Archetype (for the extra combat feat, and bonus to Acrobatics), you can get Circling Mongoose online.

Wizard Guide wrote:
Managing limited spells. The Arcanist does not have as many spells per day as a Wizard and a delayed progression too; but he doesn’t have as many spells per day as a Sorcerer either.

Maybe this is a copy and paste error? Arcanist?
