character ruling question

Rules Questions

Ok,so i have a character that is Barbarian1/Alchemist2 level 3 altogether, that has never been played. all exp was from gm credit. this character has two vestigial arms and is meant to dual wield greatswords with two weapon fighting (which i do have). I'm well aware that the vestigial arms do not grant additional attacks. the purpose in the extra limbs is to wield the 2 swords. I was told a few days that this is not pfs legal and that id have to switch to different weapons. My only question is whether or not this is true and if so what makes it so.

you're out of luck. The arms are not intended to do that, and you still only have two virtual hands worth of actions, which will let you swing either sword but not both.

There's no way to make this legal, and thats on purpose. Vestigial limbs run into a mess of table variation and are hard to use offensively.

It is indeed not legal.

There's also a dev clarification in this thread that explicitly calls out dual wielding greatswords as not possible.

The good news is that if this character has never been played, you can take all of that GM credit and rebuild it into any other 3rd-level character you want! :)

o well. ill just have to settle for one greatsword and a shield then, keeping that last arm open for drink a mutagen when the other 3 hands are full. That's ok right?

Yes, that is technically fine - as long as you don't try to shield bash with the shield in a TWF routine.

Note you don't really need the last arm open for mutagen as you could take a hand off the greatsword --- but if you took potion glutton, having that arm free would be extremely useful to down potions as swift actions.

one more question while im thinking about it. I was thinking about switching out two weapon fighting for exotic weapon proficiency (bastard sword) and purchasing a Large bastard sword or do i have to purchase one that matches my size? would this be legal?

Silver Crusade

That is legal.

Hang on, I was told that you cannot purchase oversized weapons in PFS unless they appeared on a chronicle.
Can you purchase oversized weapons at will, or do you need to find them on a chronicle?

I know you can't buy oversized FIREARMS, but there's an archetype out there that's *legal* that almost *requires* Large size weapons to be effective, I think?

You were misled.

You can buy weapons that are size Small, Medium, or Large. There is no pricing available for other sizes, so those are not available.

Edit: Here's what the guide says, p. 24, under "Always Available Items". . .

Quote:
You may always purchase the following items or equipment so long as you’re in an appropriately sized settlement (see above).
  • All basic armor, gear, items, and weapons from Chapter 6 of the Core Rulebook, including Small and Large-sized items. This does not include equipment made from dragonhide, but it does include equipment made from the other special materials, such as alchemical silver and cold iron (see the Special Materials section on page 154 of the Core Rulebook). All mundane (completely nonmagical) weapons, armor, equipment, and alchemical gear found in any other source that is legal for play are considered always available.

though it's not really a good idea to go superlarge bastard sword.
You're taking a -2 to do 2d8s instead of 2d6s with a greatsword. I feel it's really not worth the feat, let alone worth even if it was free.

There is a way to make not exactly that legal.

Instead of taking Vestigial Arms twice, use an Extract of Monstrous Physique to Polymorph into a Kasatha or 4-armed Sahaugin.

My suggestion for you is become a 2nd lvl Titan Mauler Barbarian and get rid of the Vestigle arms. A 2nd lvl Mauler gets Jotun grip allowing him to use a two handed weapon one handed such as a greatsword. Use a heavy shield in the off hand. Take a Rage Chemist as your Alchemist improving your strength during intense battles. Both your rage str increase and Alchemist str boost are two different enhancements which are actually legal. So your strength goes up by ten points while raging and under mutation.
