Sovereign Court

Hello all,

So trying to make a ruling for a home game house rule. Have a summoner and he wants to add horns to his eidolon so he can make a gore and bite attack as part of his full round attack along with his two claws. So he would have a gore, bite, and two claws all as primary attacks. I personally just don't agree on the gore and bite as both being primary but would like opinions.

Well... the rules are clear in that all are primary. You knew that, though. ^_^

Note that there's an existing monster that has primary bite and primary gore. Original Bestiary, even.

You could easily house-rule the gore down to secondary - I'd consider reducing the evolution cost to 1, though. Seems simple to me.

Alternatively, if you're concerned about damage output and balance, you could ask the player to choose different evolutions.

Is there anything else behind this decision? Does the eidolon need horns to fit a theme? Are you concerned about in-party balance?

Per the Universal Monster Rules, Gore and Bite are primary attacks. Your player is correct per RAW.

For an example of a creature that has Bite/Gore/Claw/Claw as all primary, see the Gargoyle.

You are of course free to house rule otherwise, but be sure to also nerf any Gargoyles as well.

EDIT: Ninja'd

I don't see it being a problem. Nerfing it could be a problem though, a disappointed player is something worth throwing away minor balance to avoid. If you do allow it and notice that it's a problem, talk to the player and make sure he understands why you want to nerf it.

I think Ill sit with the player to adjust. Thanks for the advice, I didn't realize there was a creature with that build. I think Ill go at it from the them aspect. Since the PC states he wants it to be like a dragon. and Dragons don't have gore
