What components does my oracle need for scrying?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hi,

My oracle is considering taking scrying as one of his fifth level spells.

However, I'm not sure what components he would need for casting.

The spell lists:

Remember that oracles may forfeit any divine foci.

So, what would he need?

Thanks in advance!

Get with your GM, as ours has a homemade list of at least a dozen (she uses a D12), and our Oracle and Wizard use differing gear. One of the Oracle's involves walking neeked in the morning rain. I am stuck with a Crystal Ball for the moment, but have a late Shaman's 'bones' to throw. We may get the same cryptic result in differing ways. One I scryed involved burning paper cones. Knowing the level that required would have been helpful...

You need V, S, F (a silver mirror worth 1,000 gp) in order to cast scrying as an Oracle.

  • Oracles do not need to provide a divine focus to cast spells that list divine focus (DF) as part of the components.
  • If the Components line includes F/DF or M/DF, the arcane version of the spell has a focus component or a material component (the abbreviation before the slash) and the divine version has a divine focus component (the abbreviation after the slash).

Oracles are divine casters so you ignore the DF, but you're still on the line for the Verbal, Somatic, and Focus components.

Thanks. I was actually doubting about the F, since I thought that for ordinary clerics, having both a focus and a divine focus seemed a little bit too much. But it appears that is indeed the way it is.

Huh, for some reason I was still thinking this was 3.5 and clerics required a small font of water for scrying instead of the silver mirror. The required focus section is really badly written and should be in the actual description text.
