Seems like everyone has one of these threads, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon!

The only thing I ask is that questions pertaining to my house rules go in that thread instead.

I reserve the right to exaggerate, sin by omission, or outright not answer, but I won't lie.

Are you my Mother?

What was the DC for jumping on the bandwagon?

Do you know the number for the Ghostbusters?

I've got a bit of a ghost problem.

Given that texas is bbq holy ground, does houston have a "thing" they do that's different from say austin, dallas, san antonio or is it all about the brisket?

Is the K silent?

Yes. Here is a nice, warm nest. Never mind that it looks like a BBQ pit.

-10. Even if you Take 10 to avoid it, you fail.

Someone told me the number for everything is 328-7448, or just dial "EAT S#@@."

This is going to sound crazy, but the best barbecue in Houston is the brisket at Luling City Market at Richmond and 610, which is in no way affiliated with the famous City Market Barbecue in Luling, TX; they just shamelessly stole the name. However, having compared them, the Luling City ripoff's brisket is actually better than the original's.

BTW, the holy mecca of all Texas barbecue is Cooper's in Llano. It's not just brisket; their multiple smoke pits run the whole length of the lot, and you just point and tell the guy how much of what part of what animal you want. Their ultra-thick-cut, pepper-crusted smoked pork chops are to die for.

K is generally a very decisive letter. You never have to ask if Kate is pronounced "Sate," which is a problem you often run into with the letter C. I'd advocate pronouncing the so-called "silent" K in words like "knock" as well.

She needs to master the basics first. Walking, running, and climbing are done. Speaking is coming along nicely. I'm hoping that toilet training and aikido will be next (not necessarily in that order).

So, what exactly does a hydrogeologist do anyhow, turn rocks into water or something?

That's pretty easy, considering your lips, tongue, and cheeks are all part of your head. I'd consider myself accomplished if I could go a full year without biting my own head.

Where does franklins rate on the scale of bbq awesomeness?

I just had some korean bbq, but that would not stop me from laying into pepper-crusted smoked pork chop, that sounds amazing

Well, I'm more specifically a consulting hydrogeologist. In layman's terms, I clean up other people's messes. Currently, those other people are an entire refinery.

We don't even talk about Austin.

Seriously, though, I've always been a fan of County Line BBQ out on Bee Cave Road, because of the view more than the food. Last time I was in Austin I stopped at Uncle Billy's, near Barton Springs -- very decent ribs, and washed down with their own Gypsy Porter, I was in heaven there. I've been to Rudy's and was unimpressed. I'll have to try Franklin next time.

Although the Salt Lick in Driftwood isn't too far away from Austin...

franklins is legit, but if you are in Austin then do yourself a favor and drive 30 minutes out to Lockhart.

Smitty's for the win! We evacuated to Lockhart for hurricane Rita, but sadly, they were closed. I'd love to get back and just spend a weekend eating barbecue in that town.

Couldn't tell you. For really good Tex-Mex, I used to drive all the way down to Clear Lake to go to Hector's; it was a sad day when they closed (La Breasa was good, but not as good). I'm currently closer to Katy, where Tony's and (surprisingly) Jimmy Changa's are both somewhat acceptable, and they're a 10-minute drive instead of 45 minutes.
