Why is ghost whip not pfs legal?

Pathfinder Society

Like the title says, what about this spell makes it banned? maybe im missing something. (not much pfs experience here)

Silver Crusade 3/5

I'm not sure. My only guess is that they might be saving the spell to open up as a boon for a chronicle.

The spell is certainly not overly powerful for a 2nd-level spell.

The Paracountess keeps it to herself so she can "discipline" her ghostly companions?

Shadow Lodge 4/5

It's a pretty badly written spell all things considered:

* If you fail to trip somene, can you drop the whip as normal?
* You cannot be disarmed but if the whip ever leaves your hand then what?

Maybe it'll be reconsidered after erratum.

I thought it had to due with the fact that you can attack through walls and such.

I considered it incredibly overpowered when I first read it, assumed it was legal, typed up a build, found out it was banned, and said to myself, "okay, good, that makes sense".

I assume this is why.

It is pretty dope for a second level spell. If it were third level I would have been ok with it.

Sorry, but I keep reading the title of this thread as "ghost ship"....

Scarab Sages

It ignores all cover. You can attack though allies, doors, walls, and so on. It can be very good if you are focused on the whip. Not so much otherwise.

I don't know why the line about drag and reposition is in the spell though, as a whip can already drag and reposition.

Presumably the whip could not drag and reposition corporeal foes, as it has no substance and merely passes through solid objects.

The Exchange 5/5

I got a theory on this now...

Access will be given on a Chronicle - one for playing

#9-11 Whips and Midgets... an adventure dealing with the Chalaixian comedic opera of the same name, set in the Oppara/Talden court of Stephan the III...

...though access will only be for a SMALL whip...

I thought it was going to be a Season 69 Dark Archive boon, for fulfilling a certain (ah-hem) set (ah-hem) of Darkive goals during that season. Foremost among them, of course, is grappling a succubus with a naked PC. ... Ooops .... wrong thread?

If the Paracountess is involved, it wouldn't be a SMALL whip...
