[PFS] Advice on PC progression (fighter 4)

Advice

Hi there,

first of all sorry if this is the wrong subforum for questions reguarding advice for PFS characters (and of course, please move this thread into the appropriate subforum, thank you!) but I didn't know where else to post my request.

Second, here's my problem(s):

I've got a lvl 4 fighter PC and I'm considering how to upgrade his gear. Next thing I will probably do is to spare money in order to buff his +1 greatsword, the only problem is I'm not sure how to do that. To be clear I'm planning to get this character vital strike at lvl 6 as he already has power attack and furious focus and then get him to charge after drinking a potion of enlarge person, so I naturally want to give his greatsword the impact quality. Unfortunately Impact is a +2 magical quality, so I need to save up 16k gp, which will take me up to level 6 (the character currently has 351 gp and 10 xp), and will get a few thousand gp when reaching lvl 6 (due to completing Serpent's Rise), even so collecting more than 10k gps will take me most if not all of the next scenarios I play with him and I was thinking if it would not be better to add some other different +1 quality instead, but I'm not sure about what to add (Bane Human? A simple +1 enanchement to get the sword to +2? Frost?).

Also I've got a wizard pc (lvl 1, core), and besides buying scrolls to learn new spells I don't really know how to improve his gear (well, I'll probably get him a pearl of power but after that? It's a bit to early for him to save up for rods yet.

Common equipment for mid level characters includes:

Cloak of Resistance
Physical stat belt
Mental stat headband
Some form of boot item, featherstep early on, haste later
Gloves of Duelling are very good for fighters but expensive
Rings of Protection/Amulet of Natural Armour are not bad ideas for front liners
For PFS Swarmbane Clasp is going to help, Oils of Daylight also help
You want some means of Flight. Potions are OK to start with.

You might also want to reference the Painlord guide.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32, RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

You're going to run into the Fame limit on that +3 equivalent weapon. With a module in there, you'll be at level 7.1 if you pick up every possible prestige. So likely level 8 in reality. That gives you some breathing room to buy other stuff in the meantime.

If you don't want to wait that long, another +1 is mathematically the best option, but keen might be more fun. Human Bane will be useful in many cases, but you may go multiple scenarios at a time in which it's a waste. I'd avoid Bane in general, unless it's really part of your character concept. 1d6 energy damage enchantments will get resisted so often it's not even funny.

For now, I'd focus on other items to shore up weaknesses; honestly, you could probably go the rest of your PFS career with a +1 weapon and not feel any pain. That's what I've got on my level 10 Mammoth Rider. Instead, save up for:

+1 Cloak of Resistance
+1 Armor
+2 Belt of Giant Strength
+1 Ring of Protection
+1 Amulet of Natural Armor
+2 Cloak of Resistance
+2 Armor
Cracked Pale Green Prism Ioun Stone (one for attack rolls, another for saves)
Clear Spindle Ioun Stone (in a Wayfinder, to keep from being possessed by most enemies)

Also, use PP to buy a wand of cure light wounds,an oil of daylight, and a set of 5 scrolls of lesser restoration for a caster to use on you if you get poisoned.

For your wizard, get 1 or 2 Pearls of Power early on to make your spells/day go farther, and 2 PP for a wand of magic missile. A Lesser Rod of Extend Spell is good for level 4 or 5 to get your mage armor up all day, and maybe an Extended heroism and/or haste for the martial characters.

Once your sword is masterwork you can take it to the pathfinder shop and have it upgraded. So if you have a masterwork greatsword valued at 350 gp, its 2,000 to Get Tim the enchanter to put a +1 on it. When you get the fame/cash (mostly cash) you can take it back, hand him 6,000 gp and he'll up it to +2.

Bane human comes up a lot.

Bane evil outsider comes up not quite as often, but the really nice thing about it is that the extra +2 to the enhancement bonus turns your +1 sword into a +3, which means You don't know what obscure alchemical metal you need but your sword counts as it anyway.

Thanks everyone for answering.
Currently my character has fame 18, a +1 Cloak of Resistance, +1 Full Plate Armor, Belt of Giant Strength +2, +1 Greatsword.
I considered going the +1 ring of protection, +1 Amulet of Natural Armor and Dusty Rose Prism Ioun Stone, for a total of 9000gp my character gets a nifty +3 AC bonus which might come in handy, as I had not considered the fame level cap problem (with a fame 18 I need 13 more points before being able to afford impact which as RainyDayNinja pointed out means I need to wait until lvl 7 at least). Btw, why clear spindle ioun stone?

All things considered I'll content myself with the AC buffs then (possibly getting in another +1 to armor), and start saving up for impact after I reach level 6. Btw Any ideas on how to improve will saves? I'll get Iron Will at lvl 5th but what after that then?
Getting means to fly seems like a good idea, I'll prbably go with potions though (winged boots is 16k gp and takes the slot for boots of speed and I don't know many other effective ways to fly besides that or potions)

As for the mage I'll probably get the pearls next, he's a blaster so I was hoping getting a metamagic rod of maximization early on (damn fame... XD)

P.S.

Being a fighter is certainly costy in PF!!! XD
