Hi there!
So I was tinkering with some ideas of how to bring back an old "friend" from an old campaign and then I started to think about Shaman King and Asakura Hao (Zeke Asakura in English Dub). He was a member of the Asakura family and he reincarnated as a descendant while still retaining his abilites (though weakened) and eventually regaining his memories and personality.
Now this is somewhat too complex for it to be a single spell or anything but I was wondering if anyone ever did something like this?

I don't really think you need a mechanic for this idea. Just "cast reincarnate" and make the character what ever level the GM allows and have his leveling represent his awakening memories/abilities. pretty easy. He was a Wizard20 in life? New/same but weaker ability would just be Wizard1...
Well for one I am the GM and second but I tend to follow the rules of the game with decisions regarding the players and they are fine with that. I, however feel like this should apply to myself as well and not just randomly execute plan A because GM says so. That would be more fair towards the players, more interesting as I really have to use my noggin to make something happen and it tends to give fun results.
My main point with this topic is to see if any other GM's, who are like me, who made a similar thing. If there isn't any then I have no choice but to make a custom.
