Knights of Kenabres

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

We are having trouble figuring out when to use this card. We understand there are some henchmen in AP2 that are barriers with the army trait, but all of the checks besides combat are more specific than wis, int, str, dex, con, and char. They have checks like melee, divine, stealth, fortitude, etc. So when can we add a d6?

Unless I misremember the Knights wording and it's something weird

If you have one of those skills (melee, divine, etc.) on your card, they are based on another skill. For example, Kyra's Divine is based on Wisdom. Anything that affects her Wisdom or Wisdom checks does the same for Divine. Same with someone who has Melee based on Strength, and so on.

What if it is the other way around? If it is a divine check? Can we use the Knights bonus to wisdom for a divine check?

If your character's Divine skill is based on Wisdom, then you get the Wisdom bonus (if any) from the Knights on Divine checks. If your character's Divine skill is based on Charisma (like many Bards) then instead you would get the Charisma bonus (if any) from the Knights on Divine checks. If you don't have Divine at all then you wouldn't get any bonus from the Knights on Divine checks.

The same thing applies to any check using one of your skills. It's described on page 12 of the Wrath of the Righteous Rulebook, under Play Cards and Use Powers That Affect Your Check. The second paragraph talks about how skills based on other skills count as both for powers and effects.

I know you know this Parody, but for those that don't, it's an important note. Everyone has every skill. If it isn't on your card, you may use a d4.

Big Aside

That isn't how it's worded in the rulebooks:

WotR Rulebook, p. 12 wrote:
Even if your character doesn't have any of the skills listed for a check, you can still attempt the check, but your die is a d4.

(Emphasis mine; it's the end of the first paragraph under Determine Which Skill You're Using.)

Thus your character doesn't have all the skills. Your character can, however, attempt any skill check you choose, starting with a d4 if you don't have the skill.

The important point for GamerCerina's question is that skills your character actually has are based on other skills and skill checks using them count as both types. If you don't have the skill, related skill checks don't count as any of the other types.

Note
I'm working from the PDF of the rulebook, which has incorporated some updates. Hopefully it matches what you're using (both of you). :)
