Mark, think I have him now....

Now thats a fine looking Seaman! I'm liking it Shifty

VC - Sydney, Australia

Not *quite* sure I made the skin tone red enough.

Black eyes and a widows peak though should hint at enough outsider heritage... I wasn't keen on painting up a circus freak. At the end of the day I had to think what sort of human crew would really take well to being commanded by something that looked fresh from the Pit.

So... how would an 'Cavalier/Order of Cockatrice (Houndmaster)' work perhaps?

Seems that just about every dude wants the magical menagerie type character. What sort of avian critter would be an ok substitute?

Tiefling heritage doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be hugely overt anyway. An off color to skin and something that could be hidden by a uniform would be more than enough if you wanted to take the subtle road :)

Really anything would work - and the houndmaster can be either a straight houndmaster with a dog or wolf, or we could work it a little to suit a bird companion.

Are you settling on the Cavalier as your primary choice?

Lol - a cavalier would be great, between shifty and the bard, we will have the entire crew with morale sky high. I am just amazed that almost nobody has tossed in any divine characters (and like it that way from my druid's point of view).

Na, Romanch is a whole other language. Spoken
in one Canton in Switzerland. It is a combination of actual Latin and Old German.

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

sounds terrible...like German with lots of coughing and harrumphing...

Scarab Sages

male 1/4 Elf Lorekeeper???

There is harrumphing in the latin elements? Or ist the harrumphing all Old German and the latin parts are coughing only?

ZZ: If you are willing to wait until July until selling your minis OR you would accept 4 rates as payment, I would be interested (beats international shipping...)

Divine Gamemaster of the Abyss and below...

I absolutely am :)

July you say? that's no problem - let's say 320€ including shipping?

and yeah, I mixed up what Tirion meant!

OK, sounds good. I get back to you in July for details.

:) I don't care what they call it or who markets it as long as it works and is super hard to get computer viruses.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Best way to avoid computer viruses is to throw out your computer. Or get a Mac is a great second option.

Na - you are only screwed if you got brainwashed into buying a PC.

I'm a dirty PC lover... not a fan of Apple stuff. It looks shiny, but...meh.

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Heh - I can count the number of times my Mac has crashed in the two years I have had it on one hand. My last PC crashed that many times in a week most of the time.

I just hope that I never have to use a PC again as the learning curve is so skewed that I just feel like I have thrown away a part of my life every time I have to help a friend on one - which is sadly fairly frequently and these friends only use them for word processing.

Lol, I was talking about a device that's injected into your body which allows you to understand any spoken language as if it were your native tongue. I don't think that the PC/Mac debate is applicable for this!

Male Gnome Sorcerer/9 - (HP: 49/49 - AC20;FF17;T18 - F+5;R+6;W+7 - Init+9 - Per+11)

Really, this is the difference between PC and Mac.

Mac = Desna

PC = Asmodius

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Not sure I'd want my computer governed by a Chaotic god of luck...

Asmodeus sure sounds like the better option of those two. Much easier to operate in an autocratic despot driven environment. Might not be pretty, but everything runs well enough. :P

Hey Mark :)

Spoiler:
I think I will firm up on Cavalier, It would work well with the Bard and perhaps we wont be stepping on each other quite so much.

I'm thinking that Demon-spawn will probably be the go, and if possible I would like to take the Feat 'Breadth of Experience'. That will still give the character that slightly well read and knowledgeable aspect, but without really tying into the whole 'magick' aspect.

I thought about it for a while, especially in the light of the Demon spawn taking an Int penalty - sent away by his affluent family to boarding school at a young age, he was left with little to do but study (frequently assisted by the odd switch of the cane by the schoolmasters) he had quite a broad range of knowledge sink in, albeit a little superficial. On the otherhand he overcame his inbility to concentrate on the boks long enough to get a keen grasp of matters of warfare and destruction, through the calmness they brought to his inner turmoil, and so they packed him to the Taldane Naval Academy upon graduation. The environment now explains his reasonably well developed academic strengths, as well as quick reflexes...

As to animal, suppose a Roc would also work - Dire Bat is probably a bit odd at this level

Hey Shifty :)

Spoiler:
No problems and Breadth of Experience is fine enough. Just rename it to Well Read or the like. Boarding school explanation fits well.

As to animal companion, there are a few options. Initially I'd suggest a sea-bird as the easily available - but you'd have the ability to pick up whatever you like in the last part of the first book.

I'd be open to almost anything on here with the only provisos being around when one would be available to pick-up.

Doesn't have to be a bird even, if you'd prefer another type of animal. Main thing for me is that the mount aspect doesn't work with the ship borne nature of most of the AP. But could easily be a dog or bird or sea creature even if you wanted.

VC - Sydney, Australia

Mark:
Yeah theres no way a 'mount' works on board a ship. The Sea Creatures were also a bit naff once I went through, as they are invariably things that live in the water and wont find a lot of purchase on a boat... like a manta ray or whale. Thinking through the (albeit limited) write up of how we are starting, it also occurs to me that a Companion might also be unavailable, do press-gangers usually take your pet too? :p Otherwise perhaps some nasty black dire-wolf pup (wolf AC stats)that follows him around... Hound of Hell, as opposed to Hell Hound!

Shifty:
Having double checked the AP - the cleanest option for a wolf-like creature would be to have you find him about a third of the way through the first book after SPOILER happens and you SPOILER. Seeing as how you'll likely be out and about bushwhacking most of that time anyway would that work for you?

VC - Sydney, Australia

Mark:

Yeah it would; makes sense.

I was struggling with grasping how any 'pet class' would actually have their starting pet in said conditions, unless said pet was a bird which persisted in sitting atop the masts or something (then again, how'd that work out for the Albatross in RIme of the Ancient Mariner?) but otherwise seems a bit dicey considering the primer... Im guessing that as wel only have one small item that we are probably still freshly Shanghai'd and have no real gear/anything

Shifty:
Left to the tender mercies of the DM by the AP. They can either smuggle themselves aboard or follow the ship, etc. Works better for the tiny style familiars than the bigger ones.

You are indeed freshly shanghaied at the start - and in my interpretation that means everything gone except for your clothes and one item. AP actually has your gear sitting in storage, but I'd like to engender a bit more creativity so I'm taking it all! I'm sure that you know there's many an item sitting about on a age of sail ship that can be put to task as an improvised weapon ;)

VC - Sydney, Australia

Mark:
Yeah that all makes sense!

Female Human Rogue-Knife Master/10 (Init: +4)

Mark:

I was wondering if it had arrived yet. It should be any time. Keep me updated.

Folks, can you tell me what problems I create by allowing a shirt of protection in my game. Does this upset game balance by having an extra slot or do you think the type of magical enhancements would keep things in balance any way?
