I would either play up the air connection for all it's worth, or play something wholly unexpected. Don't go half-way. Also, look for something that's a realy interesting character, but don't obsess about mechanical advantage. Frankly, I find games that have too many optimized overpowered characters in them boring. Even one can sometimes trivialize the game. So, you need to be effective, but you don't have to be super-powerful. Don't worry about mechanics; just make them reasonable, and you'll be a fine contributor.
The air sorcerer is always a good way to go. Play up the connection to air. Get an air elemental as a familiar. (I have an Undine in a home game who refuses to use fire spells and who has a water elemental as a familiar....)
Or... play absolutely against type, and be a urban druid, or a dungeon ranger, or some such. Build a backstory that had you expected to love air because of your blood, and you came to resent it.
