Help with getting better UMD

So I have an Investigator lv8 that uses Int for UMD checks. I can't change anything about the character but I do have some gold to spend. Are there any options I have to increase my UMD?


Can't change anything about the character...it sounds like you're limited to gear than.

I know there are a number of items that give flat bonuses to skill checks. Perhaps you could homebrew one for UMD checks.


Can't this is for PFS. My group tonight is 4 non-magics and me. So we have no spells even for cure wands. So I'm probably the most likely to use UMD, but right now i have about a 50% change to activate, so something to boost that would help.


A circlet of persuasion boosts all CHA based checks by +3 and is quite cheap. Does your guy get INT and CHA bonus to UMD? You can ask your GM if that item will apply to your UMD checks, but I'm not sure how it works rules-wise with the replaced ability Modifier.


Wand Key Ring will give you +10 UMD for a single spell for 3,000gp

When you use the skill is when the stat is swapped and thus it becomes and int based skill when I make the roll so the circlet doesn't work.

That's a nice find. This might work, it'll at least make me auto-succeed with a cure wand.

Why do you want your UMD to be high? If it's CLW wands you want to use, the success rate shouldn't matter, because you'll only use the wand for out-of-combat heals. Failure shouldn't matter.

And if someone wants you to use a wand mid-battle, they should have that high UMD.

In any case, masterwork tool costs 50gp and gives a +2 circumstance bonus.


Well if I roll a 1 on a wand I can't attempt to use it again. Potentially limiting me on out of combat healing ability. Also there's potentially more than just cure wands. So I'd like to see what I can do just in case it's needed.

Save your shirt or character folio re-roll for that.

Headband of Vast Intelligence, if you don't have one or can afford to increase the bonus.

Anything that gives a boost to Intelligence would help, of course.

@Gleaming Terrier: That only helps once, and then only if his reroll is not another one. And that assumes he has something that gives a reroll.

Also, for the OP, since the wand key ring is slotless, you can get multiple, if you can afford them.
