Extra Hex

You have learned the secrets of a new hex.

Prerequisite: Hex class feature.
Benefit: You gain one additional hex. You must meet all of the prerequisites for this hex.
Special: You can gain Extra Hex multiple times.

Got this from http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/advancedFeats.html. So is this the correct language for Extra Hex? I saw some past discussions where the language for Extra Hex supposedly included some additional language that was specifically tailored for Shaman Hexes. Has that language been taken back out?

The addition is in the Advanced Class Guide

Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Each time you do, you gain another hex.

(NOTE: I know this is an old thread, but it's the only one that I could find via search that encompassed both the 'Extra Hex' feat and the 'Shaman' class)

Based on the wording of the rule, does this mean you cannot use the 'Extra Hex' feat to choose one of the 12 (13) **standard** hexes that all Shaman can choose from? Example: 3rd level character (3 level Shaman with Flame spirit) gets a feat, I choose 'Extra Hex', am I allowed to choose the standard Shaman hex "Chant" with this feat? Or am I only allowed to choose from the 5 hexes of the Fire spirit listing?

I understand not allowing the extra hex coming from a wandering spirit, but I don't understand why I could not choose a **standard** Shaman hex with it.

Yikes! I went and looked up the Shaman class to see if you'd missed anything obvious, like "She forms a lasting bond with a single spirit, which grants a number of [hexes and] abilities and defines many of her other class features." However, no, the strikethrough text was strictly in my imagination. And I didn't see any errata on it in the FAQs, either. But it sure looks to me like RAI you should be able to...

I'm marking this for a FAQ (well, errata). And I'll be interested if anybody spots something we both missed.

It's not completely clear as written. But the intent is clearly that you can pick generic Shaman hexes, as though you got another "Hex" feature selection, but not another "Wandering Hex" feature selection.

I believe that text was added during the playtest, where Shaman didn't have any "generic" hexes, they were all just from (larger) lists per spirit, more like Oracles.

As a complementary question, does extra hex allow you to take extra major or grand hexes or is it limited to the basic stuff?

The key sentence for answering this question is "You must meet all of the prerequisites for this hex." The main prerequisite for major and grand hexes is being at or above a certain witch level.

This is my view, as well, for what it is worth.
