Now that Bestiary 5 is out-ish-sorta it's time for us to start rambling and ranting about our monstrous desires in a new thread.

I hope for some more Australian creatures and more outsiders from the groups that are starved like protean, psychopomp, inevitables and div. Maybe even have some simple templates like Celestial but for the different elemental planes.

Hopefully the ephialtes kyton will see a revised reprint.

Well here we go again, since the post in Bestiary 5 wish topic is rather useless.

My Bestiary 6:

With Bestiary 5 out of the way, it’s time for my vision on Bestiary 6. What will be my ultimate bestiary 6? Well let me share my dream (to all your annoyances probably, lol, sorry can’t help being such a fanboy!)

NOTE: I know that most mythology creatures are wrong here, but I write them down here the way I like to see them in Pathfinder not in mythology.

I’ve added a lot of creatures I myself don’t care for, but I know a Bestiary without them is dull for others (lol) so I added some creatures I don’t like myself to add to the different outsider classes, but of course a Sincubus Bestiary is one that has a LOT of mythology critters, even in the outsider cases lol.

Not all names are correct, some are likely to change, much like the Mahaha Daemon, which should get a more suiting Daemon name, but Mahaha could be an alternative name for it.

No, I didn’t write this all in one go, I’ve been writhing for this for a couple of months now, and just deleted everything that ended up in Bestiary 5, and added some new stuff today.

- Template 4 (I have no idea, whatever you like)
- Tenaga (Japanese Myth. Another 0HD race, but these have very long arms.)
- Tenome (AP Monster, New Artwork)
- Tera-Tsutsuki or Chaos Pecker (Japanese Myth. These woodpeckers from hell bring destruction wherever they go, a single Tera is already a threat, but a whole swarm of them can bring an entire city to its knees.)

- Thane 2
- Thing (movie)
- Thriae, Abomination (Not as sweet looking as the other Thriae, these are pure abominations of horror.)
- Titan, Zogbanu (African Myth. Enormous primal titans with horrid spiky forms, from their hunched backs grow terrible horns. They are very primitive Titans but among the most powerful of all Jungle residents.)
- Troll, Blood Troll (Don’t make these horrifying trolls angry or they explode into your face! But their extreme regeneration skills quickly fix them into shape again, even after an explosion!)
- Troll, Earth Troll (Like the Antaeus from Greek Myths these trolls have strong connections with the earth below their feet, nothing can destroy them while they are in connection with the earth.)
- Tsemaus (Desert + Sea) (Native American Myth. Horrible shark-like fish that can live both in water and in sand, their dorsal fin is extremely sharp and they use it to cut other creatures and boats in half.)

It would be awesome if people could *not* put repeats in this thread. It makes keeping track of things soooooooo much easier.

I'm having trouble understanding. What does "repeats" mean? Does this mean reposting requests from other threads?

Paizo Employee Developer

Well, there's some of that (I personally think that the Bestiary 5 Wishlist thread still has plenty of things to mine, and I fear that this thread is going to have 95% of what was mentioned in that thread and very few new things).

What I'm mainly talking about is how the Bestiary 5 wishlist thread got so clunky and hard to use because people were requesting the same things every few weeks (or months in some cases). Most of the time it was these huge lists and the lists would be repeated each time. I started trying to keep up with the Bestiary 5 Wishlist thread, but gave up after two pages.

Silver Crusade Contributor

I see. Thank you for the insight! ^_^

Perhaps instead of posting giant lists we should post something like no more than 10 per time?

El Baka
In Dominican Folklore El Baka its a demon that its given to someone as part of an infernal contract. A Baka its a creature with the task of protecting the holdings of the contractor for the period of time specified in it. During the period of time one is under the protection of the baka all kind of business will be fruitful, crops will grow exceedingly well, cattle will multiply, but after the baka leaves you it is said that it either takes your fortune or whatever else it is you value the most (family members, health)
it takes the form of black animal usually a bull or dog of extraordinary bulk and red eyes

How many creatures do we have based on Amerindian and Euro-American folk tale mythology? I'd like to see some creatures based on existing legends, like the chupacabra, Mothman and sasquatch we've already got.

This is sort of what I'm talking about. Snipes, the Hidebehind, hell, even Jackelopes could be cool. Joint snakes, a snake that can break itself apart and put itself back together, strike me as being particularly suited to Pathfinderization.

Also, you mention "huge lists"—would it help or be part of the problem if every few pages someone gathered all the previously-mentioned creatures together into one big list post?

I haven't figured out what's on the Bestiary 5, but if the Hadhayosh hasn't been on there, I still think it's an interesting choice-maybe even an evil version of the creature?

Another creature I recommend getting on the spot is the mokele-mbembe. I'm a huge fan of that cryptid, and seeing it get a spot on the Bestiary (with some new artwork) would be amazing.

Speaking of which...has there been statistics for the emela-ntouka? If not, that thing also would be cool to see in Pathfinder.

Scarab Sages

As a bit of a different take (and this might be exactly what Paizo does anyway), I'd actually like to see less in the vein of digging up mythology and then creating creatures around that, and more of thinking up really interesting mechanics and then designing the creature around them.

As a for instance, one of my favorite creatures in any of the Bestiaries is the Gearghost, which is built completely around this mechanic of being able to rearm traps as move actions (or was it swift?). Another one is the Ankhet in B5 (which was originally in Mummy's Mask), which is built around being a defender of a building, with mechanics for the players to capture one.

Anyway, I like to flip through the bestiaries when I'm designing encounters and look specifically at the creature abilities just as much as the fluff of the creature.

Someone was compiling the wishlists into one document. I started, but I think another person surpassed me in keeping things up to date.

We could just do that again...and post the link at the top of every new page.

Basically...Wes and Adam...what can we do to make this thread more reader friendly for you guys? I mean I can't disagree with Adam...the lists had a habit of getting super long and I could never remember what was new and what had been posted. Especially if the threat gets into multiple pages.

I wouldn't mind seeing reprints of every creature from past APs, Modules, etc. Heck I wouldn't mind a hardcover bestiary with nothing but reprints.

I am sad that after 5 hardcover bestiaries not one has had a gigas.

Silver Crusade Contributor

It does bother me a little that the gigas are so spread out.

There's something I've been wondering about for a while.

Book of the Damned: Princes of Darkness mentions oinos kytons. We've never seen stats for them... or really, any other mention. This dovetails with the ephialtes, whose flavor doesn't really fit with more recent kyton lore. Are we ever going to see oinos kytons, or are they no longer canon?

In any case... more kytons, please. (The cantor was kind of disappointing.)

Personally I would like to see some more "exotic" kytons. I know that Kytons are at least in part based on Hellraiser, but practically every Kyton can be summarized as dude/gal in bondage gear, with only a few kytons varying from that trend. But Kytons are outsiders, so should be able take body modification to an extreme that no mortal race could survive. So lets see some weird kytons that have decided to get rid of their bones, or have unspooled their nervous systems, who have grafted additional limbs or heads to there bodies, who have have had random swarms grafted within tumors of their body, etc.

Half-Gnolls

At least 5 or 6 proteans.
Ditto that number for the inevitables
i'd like to see around 4 psychopomps, especially curious about the giltine that was mentioned way back in Carrion Crown.

Actually to be honest the category creatures such as the behemoths, fleshwarps, leshi, colossi, and other similar groups need some more members. Don't really see the point of introducing a a bunch of types of creatures and then only putting out three or four to represent them.

Though seriously if we could skip demons for one bestiary that would be cool. Some of the sins that came for the later ones were almost absurdly specific and often overlapped with one another.

Seriously though, do we have to open a portal to Limbo to get some singing chaos snakes?

Are we ever going to get Lesser Host Devils? Or what about Possession Devils? Cabal Devils?

Since Pathfinder Adventure Path #99 specifically references cabal devils, they have at least one more reason to bring back the uniila.

I hope so, Kal. I really do. I'm glad I got heresy devils, nemesis devils and now, apostate devils. But I want the rest soon! :)

Some angels that look like non-human races such as dwarves, halflings, lashunta, gnomes, orcs, etc.

Non-humanoid shaped group of celestials.

An aether elemental genie and aether elemental genie-kin blooded 0HD race.

Has anyone asked for a wereape or weremonkey?

I would love for the Lashunta, Syrinx, Monkey Goblin, Gillmen, and Triaxian to make it into a hardcover bestiary.

A CR20+ tiny to small size sprite/faerie like creature would be awesome.

More creatures with the aether subtype such as a dragon, plant, or ooze.

I would like to see an outsider group that basically serves as an evil counterpart to the Agathions, Vicious, brutal, prehistoric looking anthropomorphic dire animals. I love the Agathions, and I'm usually against the idea that every good monster must have an evil counterpart, but this could be pretty damn cool. I'd like to see them be chaotic evil, and the embodiments of extinction, dedicated to wiping out entire species of animals. Pretty nasty, and I don't think that the ecological destroyer niche has been taken with a fiend race yet.

Or is this not how it works.

That would actually be a not bad way of spinning the Anaye. I don't think there are any outsider groups solely focused on the destruction of the natural world, and it sort of complements the actual real world legends behind those beings.

Hmm. That's a really good point.

These would be very cool. Though, I actually think neutral evil or chaotic neutral for some reason.

I would like there to be no more evil outsider groups added, were are already overloaded with them as is. I would prefer to focus more on existing ones such as azura, oni, qlippoth, and rakshasa.

I would like lycanthropes to be based on vertebrates only. If you want shape shifting bug creatures then lets make them something else other then lycanthropes.

I also forgot to mention that the CR20+ faerie/sprite creature to be a fey.

Well, for me, it's:

--The remaining Greek and Roman mythological creatures. Or at least as many as there is room for.
--More +0 templates. I want to be able to add templates to monster without having to worry about keeping them at the appropriate level of power.
--A rewritten version of the Advanced simple template that actually makes the monster more threatening. I shouldn't have to use the 3.5 Monster Manual just to have decent functional monster advancement rules.
--Bestiary-style entries for the Strix and Gillmen (the only races in the ARG that aren't in any of the Bestiaries 1-4, and neither are in Bestiary 5 either).
--I'd really like a stat-block for Tacticslion.
--A half-Aeon template or something similar.
--At least a couple CR 26+ monsters. Statblocks at that level are really time-consuming to prepare each session, and having already-high-level statblocks to modify helps.
--A series of Horror-themed true dragons building off of Horror Adventures, in the same way the dragons in Bestiary 5 tie in to Occult Adventures
--Horror-themed templates

...
That's about all I can think of.

Yes, I forgot to add Strix to the list of 0HD races as well.

Oh, and there really needs to be stats for the Sarcasm Elemental and Sarcasm Dragon.

With the Delgeth already in bestiary 5, I don't see that happen at all, or they must create a similar Thelgeth.

And 5 is the magic number, no monster manual has ever passed number 5. So I hope Pathfinder is gonna break that record, but i'm not sure. Think we better wish for AP Bestiaries from now on.

Not just AP bestiaries but hardcover bestiaries that are compilations of APs, modules, campaign setting books, etc. I wouldn't mind at least one of those but I would still like a B6.

I believe we need more aberrations. Animals are always welcome. Constructs, in particular robots, are under-represented. Dragons are cool and you can't have too many of them. We really need more Fey to keep Myth Lord sated. Humanoids are a staple that cannot be ignored. Magical Beasts are where all crazy cryptids and myths come to life so more of those please. Oozes are such a small group that you can't go wrong with a few. Outsiders are classic D&D material and everybody loves them. Plants = see oozes, too few, need more. Undead are another classic that you can always have more of. And vermin, just like animals, are great to have, not the least as summons/companions.

As for other monster types, I honestly don't care for them and wish they would never never NEVER appear in a Bestiary.

Dragons.

You know, I keep trying to critique this list, but something just keeps holding me back...

More non humanoid Fey and Undead would be welcome, most of those are humanoids.

More ugly fey (like Kelpie and Nuckelavee) are also welcome.

I would like to see more types of griffons, one medium size and another huge size, and at least one of those having human intelligence and can speak.

I mostly agree with this, although as long as they have a novel niche I don't mind more evil outsiders. Sakhil to me are novel enough that I am cool with them.

What I think we need more of our new neutral outsider groups. There are enough "themes" to build outsider groups on that I don't necessarily involve good and evil but which would be useful for the game. For instance I could see a war focused neutral group of Outsiders that act as mercenaries, or knowledge-based outsiders associated with different sciences or areas of learning.

I also wouldn't mind a new good outsider group focused on the "Good is not pretty trope" Some wierd ancient eldritch entities that are good, but completely inexplicable would be sort of awesome.

This. This exactly. Evil is still okay, but it has to be unique, way more neutrals needed, and some good groups that don't look beautiful.

The fun thing is in the real world the evil mostly comes from arrogant beautiful people, and many lesser pretty people are very gentle.

And in movies/games it's the other way around, good = always beautiful and succesful. Boring.

Though we have already said this many times, I agree, we need more neutral outsiders both new and old. When I say neutral I mean N, CN, and LN.

I really wish they went with the idea of each outsider group has one creature per CR range from 1-20 and maybe few higher ones. So no group gets more then 20 or so.

eh...I kind of like that as an idea for Lawful aligned creatures (Devils, archons, etc), but chaotic and neutral creatures don't really need to be so constrained
