It's AMC. What did you expect?
They're the channel who became relevant for the first time ever by adapting a comic book with a cult following, but utilizing little to no of the source material.
Now they're adapting another comic book with a cult following.
1+1=2, looks like.
Edit: On second glance that looks a bit more grar-y towards you than I really intended, so elaboration.
I'm just kind of annoyed at AMC, since while I've never actually READ Preacher I've heard tons of good stuff about it and was hoping for a faithful adaptation.
But it looks like it's going the Walking Dead route, which while a fine show is different enough it's The Walking Dead in name only, which is a shame if you were holding out and wanted to see the same story in a different medium.

Be nice if it you know, followed the plot of the comic at least. I read the first book and the trailer is nothing like it.
Not that I've read more than the first few books, but I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one with that reaction. Did we even see Tulip and Cassidy? Saint of Killers? Heck, anyone besides a guy in a collar?

I think Cassidy may have been the guy in the jail, but I'm not sure.
I didn't see Tulip or Saint of Killers, though someone mentioned a black Tulip?
OTOH, I wouldn't expect it all to show up in the pilot or the trailer.

One interpretation is that it's just the vampirism causing it... but I always read into it that it was a reflection of his massive drug addiction over the decades.
I'm thinking that the massive drug addiction may have been dropped from the series.
