lvl 8 Tetori monk can he still use evade in a grapple?

Rules Questions

Hey guys sorry this is probably a stupid question but can't seem to find it any where.

Anyways.... Can a Mage cast a spell on a Tetori monk that is in a grapple with another character? Can the Tetori make reflex saves or does this evade feat no longer work? or simply said does a spell cast on a Tetori monk in a grapple that merits a reflex save for 1/2 dmg will he able to make the save and if he makes it does his evade kick in?

Thanks.

As an engineer, I can tell you that the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask!

Absolutely.

Being in a grapple does not prevent you from making reflex saves. However, grappled creatures cannot move and take a -4 penalty to dexterity (which means they take a -2 penalty to their reflex saves).

I'm not 100% sure, but I think when you say evade you mean evasion. Yes, evasion still works when you are in a grapple. If you throw a fireball at a monk with evasion who is in a grapple and he makes his reflex save, he will take no damage.

Hope this helps!

He can make the save, and his evasion is fully functional. The only drawback he has are any penalties to his Dexterity score from the grappled condition, if he's suffering those.

If it helps, think of him using his grappled foe as a shield from the blast. ^_^
