Titan Fighter & Titan Mauler

Rules Questions

I'd like to get a clarification on how these 2 archetypes work in regards of whielding large 2 handed melee weapons such as a large greatsword.

If I read this correctly a medium sized titan fighter can whield a large greatsword because of Giant Weapon Wielder but he takes a -4 to his attack rolls. Later on he gets the ability to decrease this penalty.

The Titan Mauler can't do that because Massive Weapons (the ability the archetype gains at 3rd level) apparently doesn't allow it, as the FAQ for ultimate combat specifies it can't work.

Am I reading this correctly? Because without the FAQ I would have considered Massive Weapons as a way for the Titan Mauler to whield a large greatsword.

Also, small question how much damage does a character do whielding a large greatsword with the impact quality while augmented by enlarge person?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The FAQ for titan mauler is out-dated, there was a recent errata that actually allows titan mauler to wield large greatswords.

2d6 > 3d6 > 4d6 > 6d6... (+2d6 per step bigger).

Thanks both for the quick answers. So a titan mauler CAN whield a large 2 handed greatsword. What is the penalty to attack rolls though? Massive weapons says -4 but adds that the penalty for using weapons too large for the whielder's size is decreased by -1 so, what is the penalty?

your case is wielding a large greatsword as a medium sized Titan mauler:

1. attack Bonus:

Inappropriately Sized Weapons: A creature can't make optimum use of a weapon that isn't properly sized for it. A cumulative –2 penalty applies on attack rolls for each size category of difference between the size of its intended wielder and the size of its actual wielder

weapon inteded for: large wielder

actual wielding: medium wielder
thats 1 size category difference so ist a -2

large greatsword is a two-handed-weapon meant for creatures 1 size bigger then you (medium). so the weapon is in this rules scope and you suffer an additional -4 making it -6 total.

this -6 is decreased by 1 for each 3 Levels beginning with Level 3.
making it a total +/- 0 at Level 18.

damage:
use the 3.5 weaponsize Chart. the pathfinder weapon size Chart is actually just the part around medium.

a hint by me: i did design a Titan mauler.
there is an item called effortless lace. it can be put on a one-handed-weapons. if you are smaller then the inteded size, you decrese the size-penalty by 2.
therefore a dwarven war axe (or any other 1 handed d10 weapon) is the best choice for the Titan mauler.
instead of a large greatsword (3d6), you use a huge DWA (d10 -> 2d8 -> 3d8). you would be at -8 attack Bonus, but effortless lace (2500gp) reduces it by 2 so you are actually at -6 just like the large greatsword.

however the effortless lace is poorly written.
in my oppinion its relevant if the weapon is a one-handed-weapon, no matter how you actually wield it.
others say, it doesnt matter, as what weapontype its designed, it only matters how you wield it.
you wont find a RAW or official answer to that. A friend of mine is now running this build, and since the Barb has Problems enough, i dont think its game breaking, so we decided to let him do so.
since its pretty much a rare-played item, there wont be any FAQ, so bring it up to your GM if you like. You can find threats about it here.
