Of course... a legal finding against Exxon would really make things difficult for the conspiracy theorists. :]

Not really. It just proves that the secret cabal that's already presumptively in control of the various national governments (hence the composition of the IPCC) is also in control of the national legal system. The second clause strikes me as tautological, given the first one.

A trait shared between conspiracy types and fanatics. "The more that others say I'm wrong, the more it proves I'm right."

Yes. I was focusing just on the legal issues, but Zombieneighbors and thejeff are right that the news coverage of Exxon's deceptions will be a big deal in the 'information wars'. It becomes more difficult to sell the public a false narrative when much of the news media is actually bothering to report the truth.

I was going to say more, specifically that the main reason I am interested in the subject is actually the details of how the

tobacco tactic works , and ways in which it can be countered. Anything that shines light on Cato, heartland and George C. Marshal, and their activities as spreaders of misinformation is useful.

News coming out of an American Petroleum Institute (i.e. oil industry lobby) task group concluding in the 1970s that continued fossil fuel use would have "globally catastrophic effects" by 2067... and then working to get the US to back out of the Kyoto accord and convince the public that there was no problem.

So... not just Exxon. The whole industry was involved.

Of course it was. Everybody knows that. Old news, not important.

<snark> Sort of despairing snark, since that's the likely take on it.

Oh, I'm quite aware that this approaches a 'water found to be wet!' level of obviousness... AND that people capable of denying their own perceptual reality are certainly capable of ignoring this.

However, I still think it is important for all the people in the, 'oh I just do not know... you hear so many different opinions and it is too much to keep up with' camp. As the news media glacially shifts away from the 'wetness of water disputed' narrative the 'un-inquisitive majority' will shift with them.
