Converting Smuggler's Shiv to 5e?

Serpent's Skull

Has anyone tried this? I may be starting a FTF group next week, they love the idea of this module, but they're 5e only.

Anyone?

I am doing it. I find the APs are superior adventures. The main concern you have is going to be party size. I found the APs are written for 4-6 players, mostly 4. So add enemies accordingly. For Smugglers Shiv use weather and disease more to slow the players and weaken them to a minor effect.

Watch travel time, as I failed to do and the island took on a huge size.

Overall players love it.

Also for a new GM, it's easy to loose sight of the NPCs and they are a huge part of the adventure.

For 5e I kept most of the stats the same, kept it simple and ignored a lot of stuff. Made DMing easier.

Dark Archive

I'm currently running a once a year (yes I did say "year") FTF 5E D&D Serpent's Skull campaign. We're just about to (in the next couple weeks) jump into the second book.

The first book is just fantastic as written. My biggest mistake is that I rushed a few parts in this chapter. Take your time. Set the mood.

The second book is all about your players backstory. I threw out almost all of the content in the book as written and used all of the separate encounters primarily as a backdrop for another encounter I custom created for the players.

The other thing I'm doing is creating flashback scenes taking my players back to either their lives previous to book 1, or creating flashback scenes while they were on the Shiv. I'm doing this to create a connection to the NPCs as well as to the other characters. Remember that my players only play this story line once a year so this SHOULD help with getting my players more invested in the story and all of the characters within.

I have other ideas pertaining to Saventh-Yhi but I'm still working out the kinks on this.
