First of all, those aren't promos.
Second, colored borders like that are found on demo decks. I've used the demo deck from Wrath of the Righteous so I've seen those cards. However, I never played the original Rise of the Runelords demo which this seems to be. Plus there are only four characters which is standard for demonstration decks.
It's not a full set of Rise of the Runelords, obviously.
Third, don't be fooled by the word promos as this seller doesn't know what they're selling.
Last, no smile. (I don't like being taken advantage of, even if the seller doesn't know it.)

Well, these cards are clearly from Rise of the Runelords. We know all the promos from that time. I had gotten the first ones at GenCon. Promo = promotion. So calling something a promo means that it is a promotional card … demo decks are not promotional.
Plus the colored border was a giveaway along with only four characters. It's a demo deck.
The seller has no information on the cards.

Vic said, they were done by a different printer and sent to retailers. Probably specifically US retailers (maybe Canada). Paizo also probably took them to conventions.
I think there have been demo decks for all base sets so far. The color coding on the borders is to allow the demonstrators to sort them very quickly and set up for the next demo.

That is, indeed, a Rise of the Runelords demo deck.
It is 'rare', because there weren't all that many of them - Paizo made them for their own use demoing the PACG when it was first released. They were kind enough to let me have one after the two big conventions of the year were over, which made it easier for me to run demos locally. There aren't any cards in this that aren't available in the regular base set - the only unique feature is the distinctive coloured borders (which makes it much quicker to set up; each character uses the cards with one border colour).
I can't see anyone but a completist even considering paying anything near the $50 (not $40) that this seller is asking - for only $10 more you can get a box containing those 96 cards, and several hundred more! And a completist would probably want the original box and printed demo setup instructions, card list, etc. which this set is missing.

Would you sell your "complete" demo deck? Box, setup instructions etc...

If you look at the demo listings in the S&S demo sheet and the 1-0 demo deck list, the demo decks show a deck list. You can actually assemble the list from a base set, so there are no new cards.
I've demoed with them before (both the S&S and the WotR kits). The color coding helps a lot.
Myfly, these demo decks don't come with a "box", they're not a retail product. I don't remember if RotR's demo instructions are floating around on this site, but S&S's demo instructions are still up and 1-0 acts as WotR's demo.
Selling them seems deceptive at best.

It would be a collectors item at least. But 49 bucks is far too much..
Vic, how about putting the demo packs up for sale?
If someone comes across the game and wants to test it without buying a base set box, this would be it.
Or if you want to lure new gamers to PACG... Show the demo to your play group... Then voting, if all yes yes... Then you could buy the whole set.
10 Bucks for a demo pack would be reasonable, right?

We printed about 1500 of those decks and sent them to distributors as part of a demo kit the month before the card game was released. Distributors were supposed to send them to retailers who had preordered the game.
The kit was in a standard Paizo shipping box with a white label telling you it was a Pathfinder Adventure Card Game demo kit. Inside the box was the demo deck, in a clear plastic deck box, and one of our standard white cardboard mailers. Inside the mailer was a folded copy of the RotR marketing poster (the same one that's available rolled here), a 4-page "Guide to Demonstrating the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game," a 4-page "Demo Deck Rules-in-Brief," and a copy of our standard 2013–2014 catalog.
The deck itself contains an 81-card subset of RotR B & 1, allowing you to play a massively shortened version of Attack on Sandpoint with up to 4 characters. The cards are largely the same as in the printed 1st edition, except that the cards in each character's premade decks have color-coded borders so you can quickly reset the demo. The cards themselves were printed at DriveThru, and since these cards were never intended to combine with any other cards, we made no effort whatsoever to match the cardback colors—they're a pretty blazing shade of orange.
For S&S and Wrath, we made a far smaller number of demo decks for use at PaizoCon and Gen Con, but did not send them to retailers. We also made the Wrath decks available to Pathfinder Society venture-officers. We are not making them available for general sale because it would mislead or confuse new players. It's a truncated demo with relatively low replay value, and a relatively high cost. It's not meant for a person to buy and try the game—it's meant for specific experienced demoers to teach the game repeatedly to many groups of people.

The Runelords demo package consisted of:
- A 4-page "Read Me First!" guide to running a PACG demo.
- A 4-page Demo Deck Rules-in-Brief
- Character and token cards for Ezren, Kyra, Merisiel & Valeros (8 cards)
- Ezren's deck: Quarterstaff, Arcane Armor, Force Missile, Levitate, Lightning Touch x2, Sleep, Blast Stone, Bracers of Protection, Codex, Sage, Standard Bearer (12 cards)
- Kyra's deck: Mace, Quarterstaff, Cure, Guidance, Half-Plate, Holy Water, Guard, Blessing of the Gods x5 (12 cards)
- Merisiel's deck: Dagger, Dart, Leather Armor, Potion of Glibness, Thieves Tools x2, Burglar, Guard, Blessing of the Gods x4 (12 cards)
- Valeros's deck: Longsword x2, Mace, Shortsword, Chain Mail, Wooden Shield, Mattock, Potion of Healing, Night Watch, Blessing of the Gods x3 (12 cards)
- Adventure (Burnt Offerings) & Scenario (Attack on Sandpoint) (2 cards)
- Locations: The Old Light, Town Square, Sandpoint Cathedral & Desecrated Vault (4 cards)
- Villain (Ripnugget/Stickfoot) & Henchman (Tsuto Kaijitsu, Goblin Raider x2) (4 cards)
- Monster (Goblin Cutpurse, Goblin Pyro, Spectre) & Barrier (Explosive Runes) (4 cards)
- Spell (Fiery Weapon), Item (Potion of Healing), Weapon (Dogslicer +1) & Ally (Sage) (4 cards)
- Blessings (Gorum x2, Erastil x5, Desna x5, Lamashtu x5, Calistria x5) (22 cards)
That's 96 cards in total, which appears to match the eBay posting mentioned in the original post (which has now dropped the asking price from $50 to $25 ...)
Edit: I just double-checked, and there are 96 cards in my box. I don't know where Vic got the number '81' from, but I have 96.

I told the ebay seller, that he has no PROMO LOT to sell, but an (incomplete) DEMO PACK (just cards).
It is definetly of NO interest for international buyers, as the seller activated EBAY's Global Shipping Programme(GSP). You wont believe it, but it is true...
Shipping costs for 96 cards via Ebay GSP are 47 USD. Cheap, eh?
Looks like a pretty stewardess (paid by me) picks it up at the sellers location, then boards a EBAY's private learjet for an intercontinental flight to Germany... Unbelievable!
I like Paizo's shipping programme. Seems they dont have a private learjet, but the Golem does the whole job for a reasonable bed n breakfast reward.

Nope, no Learjets here. (We're waiting until Boeing Business Jets are available with these paint jobs.)

Cool. They will also land in Munich, Germany after Dec 2015.
Thats the solution to shorten the long shipping times from Paizo HQ to Germany.
Load my monthly subscription in the Star Wars ANA airplane, it flies to Narita, Tokyo and then Munich, Germany. This will be much faster then the current shipping.
However, the shipping costs have to remain the same.
They even could be zero: Therefore in the future, R2D2 himself will carry my subscription package in his belly. In this way, absolutely no freight volume will be consumed.
How well do you know R2D2?

Will they count as Paizo published products that employees get a copy of?

More importantly, do they count as Promo PACG products that all subscribers get? I'm sure you guys could afford to buy a jet or two for every subscriber.

Sadly no. The jets don't fit the cardinal rule of promo cards: small enough to slip into an adventure deck.

Well, Skull&Shackles had SHIPS and these were small enough to slip into an adventure deck.
COME ON, then you will squeeze my ANA Star Wars AIR-SHIP into the right format to slip. YOU can do THIS.Myfly |
