Hoping to take advantage of Kitsune currently being legal to play I'm rolling one up. I have purchased the Advanced Race Guide and have my print outs of Additional Resource guide and the Guild Guide. All in all it seems fairly straight forward to use the race.
My question comes in on the back story part. I can't find anything in the materials I have on where in Golarion the Kitsune come from. So where do they live? I'm certain I'm just over looking it (repeatedly), but for the life of me I can't find it. I can't find anything about their lands or culture. All I see is:
"Other races, like the kitsune, nagaji, samsarans,
and wayangs, are often more common in certain far-f lung
lands but are rarely seen in most others"
Thanks!

They are most common in Tian Xi (not china/japan) but the inner sea has been in contact with the east for about 1000 years now, so they could be anywhere, and have a very easy time integrating into human culture.
I currently have a litter of kitsune from taldor, the de'Bonaires. Dad didn't tell mom he was a kitsune. She was not happy to give birth to a litter, so they run opposite ends of a trading route over the pole and into taldor importing silk.

It depends on which source you are using for you Kitsune. Character creation for the Kitsune is legal from three sources:
Advanced Race Guide
Campaign Setting: Dragon Empires Gazetteer
Player Companion: Dragon Empires Primer
The biggest starting differences are what languages you get:
ARG: Kitsune begin play speaking Common and Sylvan. Kitsune with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: any human language, Aklo, Celestial, Elven, Gnome, and Tengu.
Gazetteer & Primer: Kitsune begin play speaking Tien and Senzar. Kitsune with high Intelligence scores can choose bonus languages from the following: any human tongue, Aklo, Celestial, Elven, Gnome, Nagaji, Samsaran, Sylvan, Tengu, and Wayang.
Obviously, Senzar vs Sylvan isn't a huge difference. However, I prefer having the racial language for roleplay reasons. It is also highly unlikely that foes will have it, making it an amazing pick for Share Language.
The Kitsune Goddess, Daikitsu, Lady of Foxes is a Tian deity; and Kitsune are native to many of the countries of Tian Xia. The Gazetteer also gives us this note:
The kitsune are a race of shapechanging fox folk, known throughout the Dragon Empires for their love of art, beauty, and whimsical trickery.
That said, I think BNW has the right of it when he says Kitsune are everywhere. I believe they are just much more prominent in Tian Xia.

The information out there for kitsune is extremely limited simply because they come from the Tian Xia region. The only place that they are really mentioned to gather in specifically is the Forest of the Spirits near Minkai. Aside from that, they are basically spread out and often hide among humans. Their population in Tian Xia is said to be simmilar to the number of Elves in the Inner Sea.

I'm having trouble finding a legend of an english lord who fell in love with a mysterious woman. She asked him to stop hunting foxes. When he killed a fox, and somehow realized it was her, he eventually died of a broken heart.
I was able to find this.
Fox Mythology.

While you can't use the crunch there's also fluff in Everymsn Gaming's Kitsune Compendium including
A detailed analysis of the kitsune race, including basic facts, ecology and psychology, culture, origin mythology, religion, and more.
(though it won't use Golarion IP)

Thanks for the plug!
When I wrote the Kitsune Compendium, I obviously couldn't reference Golarion. That's why I made a new deity, after all. My Origins also are pretty standalone; there's no coy references to Golarion IP there either. That said, my Origins are logical enough that they could fit anywhere (and they might not even be the correct origins; mythology is funny that way) and the deity detailed in the Kitsune Compendium draws from the same inspiration as Golarion's Daikitsu; the only real difference is that Inari Okami is a Neutral Good deity rather than a Neutral Deity. I never really liked Daikitsu being Neutral because I think its a tough sell that a god of communities and agriculture would be Neutral, but that's just my preferences. :D
My interpretation of Inari Okami is heavily modeled after Japanese Bhudhism; instead of the Ninefold Path, her clergy's general philosophies surrounding life is called the Ninetailed Path, and its implied to be one of the few ways that kitsune can unlock the potential to manifest multiple tails without a sizable amount of arcane power or a deific blessing. (Hence why the kyuubi visionary archetype exists.)
