Monkey belt

Can it hold a shield?

I would have to say no.

It says it can hold items as well as you actual hand. I would say you can use a shield with it, but you couldn't shield bash with that shield (the tail can't grant additional attacks or wield weapons).

However, shields are listed on both the armor and weapons tables. That could mean you can't use a shield with a monkey belt. Ask your GM.

I'd say it could hold a shield, but couldn't wield it in any effective way it grant the AC bonus. The Monkey Belt can't wield weapons, so it can't do anything as simple as stab with a dagger. And, as a shield is technically a weapon as well, it would make sense to say it couldn't provide the armor bonus in addition to not being able to shield bash.

Sure, you can hold a shield. But you can't use it to attack and you don't get the AC bonus.

Anyone have any literature on it? No where in the rule book does it say you have to weld it. Monkey belt also doesn't say you can't weld a shield, says you cant weld a weapon. It's accepted that you can use wands and rods with the belt. Anyone have some thing solid or just opinions?

A shield is a weapon. Shields are on the weapons table, complete with damage die and crit multipliers.

There is an entire thread arguing that matter. It isn't clear cut one way or the other.

To me, it is very clear cut, as it is to the majority of us. Following that, this matter is also clear cut.

Then you can't use anything. Anything can be used as a weapon. Let's agree with Jeraa and table that discussion.

Assuming it's not a weapon, any other points of contention?

It's a monkey tail, you can't strap a shield on a monkey's tail. It can hold or manipulate objects, I wouldn't say that wield a shield falls under those two categories. It just smells cheese to me.

Well, the descriptions for Bucklers, Light Shields, and Heavy Shields all say that that you strap them to your forearm. I don't think your tail will have one of those.

Edit: Ninja'd by Rub-Eta. :)

An actual weapon. Not an improvised weapon.

And you can still pick up a weapon with the tail. You just can't wield it.
