Hi, I'm new to Pathfinder.

I'm trying to make my own character. He's a samurai kitsune, named Ukiyo Kudo. I don't have a rulebook, so I'm going by the material provided on the Paizo website. But I'm not finding all the information I need.

I've got all the information available on the race and class I've chosen. I've determined his ability scores, ability modifiers, skills, speed, base attack bonus and I've even bought some equipment with my starting gold. But that's it so far.

I don't have all the numbers I need to determine other things, like hit points, initiative bonus, armor class, fortitude, reflex, will, etc.

Can anyone tell me how to find the following?: Miscellaneous modifier, shield bonus, size modifier, deflection modifier, magic modifier, hit points, touch, flat-footed, spell resistance, maneuverability, swim, climb and burrow.

Maybe I've missed something, or I'm not looking in the right places, but if someone could help me figure this stuff out, I'd really appreciate it.

If you are trying to make a character for the Pathfinder Society Organized Play, then the best place to start is with the Player Resources page, and specifically, the free download Pathfinder Society Guide to Organized Play.

If you are not making a character for PFS Organized Play, this isn't the right forum, you would want the Advice Forum on the Main Boards.

In the meantime, let me try to help.

The Pathfinder PRD has much of the rules you need.

A Kitsune is an uncommon race from the Advanced Race Guide. It is medium sized, like a human, so there are no size modifiers. It is not arboreal, aquatic or other special movement adapted, so there is no swim speed, climb speed or burrow speed.

Most of the rules you need are from the Core Rulebook, which you can find on the PRD. I like a physical copy of the book for reading and learning.

A shield bonus generally comes from using a shield, and deflection modifier comes from magic (usually) that gives a deflection bonus.

Your hit points come from your class, and a samurai has a 1d10 hit die, and they are modified by your constitution modifier. Initiative starts with your dexterity modifier, and has other things that can change it, such as your class (samurai makes no change) and feats you take.

Hope this gives you a good head start on your character.

You need to own the resources that you use to build a character in Pathfinder Society.

Samurai can be found in Ultimate Combat, and the Kitsune can be found in several books, such as the Advanced Race Guide. These will have most of the information you are looking for. The rest of the rules you need can be found in the Player's Handbook.

Miscellaneous modifier

Miscellaneous modifiers are any kind of bonus or penalty that are not covered anywhere else in the calculation of the value you're looking at. If you use the standard Pathfinder character sheet, dodge bonus to AC (if you get one, for example from the Dodge feat) goes there, as do some rare bonus types like sacred (you won't see that one often) or unnamed bonuses like the one a monk gains at higher levels.

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
shield bonus

As was already mentioned, you get a shield bonus if you use a shield. If you don't want to use a shield, this just stays empty (or put in a 0, whatever works best for your playing comfort).

WILMUSTANGX wrote:
size modifier

This also has been mentioned above. As a Kitsune, you're a medium-sized creature, so your size modifier is 0. You would get a different modifier if you were a small-sized race.

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
deflection modifier

In most cases, you get a deflection modifier from magic items (Ring of Protection grants you a deflection modifier, for example). Right now, at level 1, you don't have a deflection modifier, so just leave it blank for now.

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
magic modifier

Also, this only comes into play later. If you get some permanent bonus from magic, you can put that in there.

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
hit points

Each level, you gain a number of hit points equal to your hit die plus your Constitution modifier.

At first level, you always gain the maximum amount your hit die could generate. (In your case, your hit die is a d10, which it says at the beginning of your class description. That's 10 HP plus your Constitution modifier at first level.)
At later levels, you gain HP equal to the average result your hit die could generate, rounded up, plus your Constitution modifier (provided this is for PFS. In Home Games, the default is to actually roll the die, but there can of course be house rules). (In your case, the average of your hit die (d10) is 5.5, rounded up to 6.)

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
touch

Your touch AC is like your normal AC, but you don't add in armor bonus, shield bonus, and natural armor bonus.

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
flat-footed

Your flat-footed AC is like your normal AC, but you don't add in Dex-modifier and dodge bonus.

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
spell resistance

Characters don't have spell resistance by default, so just leave that blank for now. There are a few abilities and magic items that can grant you spell resistance, but most of them aren't even worth it.

WILDMUSTANGX wrote:
maneuverability, swim, climb and burrow

Maneuverability is a quality that comes with a fly speed. Most player characters don't have a fly speed.

Likewise, as a kitsune, you don't have a swim, climb, or burrow speed.
In general, you only need to put something here if an ability explicitly states you gain that kind of speed (and that ability will tell you what to put there).
