Crawling Hand strangulation

Rules Questions

Crawling Hand is a Diminutive creature - a severed undead hand - with a Grab (and Strangle) attack that can affect Medium creatures. Would you allow a PC being grappled by one to move around or should they be held in place?

Well... a grappled creature cannot move, so I believe the PC in question would be held in place. A crawling hand does have a Strength of 13, so it's not inconceivable.

Realistically, they couldn't hold you in place - they're a severed hand running around like a spider and jumping up and grabbing on to your neck, so they've got no leverage to control your movements - but maybe applying realism to Thing from The Addams Family isn't worthwhile.

Magic.

Their size is not proportional to how strong they are. A strength of 13 is above average of an entire human being.

You don't apply realism in Pathfinder, which is a world of magic.

Yeah, I think the intention was that a crawling hand would have the "holding power*" of a hand attached to a humanoid. Leverage doesn't really apply in this case... (disregard logic)

*actually, a crawling hand has greater-than-average "holding power". Not only can it grab a Medium creature, it can grapple with only one hand.

With one hand. Hue.

Anyone can, but with a penalty. "Humanoid creatures without two free hands attempting to grapple a foe take a –4 penalty on the combat maneuver roll."

That's what I meant. After looking up grappling in the PRD, that is :)

I think Pathfinder would have benefited from a 'grip' combat maneuver that allows you to attach yourself to something but which doesn't stop them from moving normally (except for having to support your weight) - so you could, say, grab on to a passing dragon and fight it in the sky.

related question do crawling hand use -4 penalty on cmb rolls ?
after all its Humanoid hand ;p

However, it's—technically—not a humanoid (it's undead).
