Do I need to buy 2 of all the books?

My son is a gamer just like his dad here. He is currently 13. In the few years he's been playing table top, he has played in several different games, using several different systems.

He likes the living world idea that Pathfinder Society represents and would like to play. I found no age restrictions on the site and it let him create his own PFS account.

Now the question is, when he and I go to events to play, the rules say you need either the hard copy of the book or the legal PDF of it. If we're playing at the same table, or even if he's playing a table using a book I am not. Can he use my books and legal (name stamped) pdfs? Or am I position that I'm buying two of everything?

I expect once he's his own man, in five years, he'll begin his own gaming manual collection. In the meantime am I starting it for him?

It is always awesome to see the next generation getting into the game!

The campaign rules allow for families who are playing at the same table to share resources. If you find yourselves at different tables using different books you're also fine. If you need the same one, it's a little harder, but if you just print out relevant pages for his character, that will be fine. The email watermark is the proof of ownership, and as long as he can say, "That's my dad, and he's over there" I expect most GMs will be satisfied.

The simple rule is 'one book per household,' with the caveat that if the two of you are at separate tables, you may need to explain the situation to the GM. Most are pretty chill.

For the detailed explanation, refer to the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide.

I believe this should answer the question.

One thought on this issue came to me one particurlarly morbid day.

Should the proverbial "something" happen to me, my kids could continue using my hardbacks, but all of the stuff in my PDF collection would be unavailable to them, as they have my email address as the watermark, and I would no longer be...

I think in this unfortunate situation, exceptions would be made.

Unless your email name is "2sexy4mypants@adult.com" they wouldn't know.

I believe there is some policies in the works at most ISPs to let people inherit access at least to email addresses. It's the sort of thing that comes up from time to time and different ISP's have different policies I believe.

You could begin buying PDFs for your son, for when he moves on.

For now, you are fine.
