Returning

Price +1 bonus
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 7th; Weight —
DESCRIPTION

This special ability can only be placed on a weapon that can be thrown. A returning weapon flies through the air back to the creature that threw it. It returns to the thrower just before the creature's next turn (and is therefore ready to use again in that turn). Catching a returning weapon when it comes back is a free action. If the character can't catch it, or if the character has moved since throwing it, the weapon drops to the ground in the square from which it was thrown.
CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Magic Arms and Armor, telekinesis; Cost +1 bonus

from that i need to have a weapon that is masterwork +300 gp give or take. then i need to spend 1000 gp. then as part of the plus one i can have it be a +1 pitchfork of returning. or do i have to buy another +1 to get the returning? i don't get the cost thing for the returning would it make it a returning pitchfork or a +1 returning pitchfork?

From the PRD:
"Some magic weapons have special abilities. Special abilities count as additional bonuses for determining the market value of the item, but do not modify attack or damage bonuses (except where specifically noted). ... A weapon with a special ability must also have at least a +1 enhancement bonus. Weapons cannot possess the same special ability more than once."

So to have Returning applied to a weapon, it also needs to be a +1 weapon.

The cost of the Returning ability is a +1 bonus, so to enchant a masterwork weapon with returning you need to pay the equivalent of a +2 bonus (to make it a +1, then another +1 to add Returning), so the cost of enchanting the weapon would be 8000gp.

It would be 8000 for the magical portion, +300 to make the weapon masterwork (required before it can be magical), plus the cost of the base weapon.

Buying a +1 returning weapon is the same cost as buying a +2 weapon.

And keep in mind, those are the prices to BUY the item. To make it, if you've got the skills+feat+time is cheaper:

NOTE: Paizo, as far as I know, has not published a Pitchfork weapon - though The Adequate Commnoner has one, but it is not a throwable weapon. We'll go forward using a trident instead:

Making a Trident:
Craft (weapons) DC-15, cost 5gp (1/3 of 15gp base price)

Making the Masterwork Component:
Craft (weapons) DC-20, cost 100gp (1/3 of 300gp base price)

Enchanting to +1 w/ returning:
Craft Magic Arms & Armor
Craft (weapons) or Spellcraft DC 8, cost 4,000gp (1/2 of 8,000gp base price)
