PFS pbp questions

Sorry if this is considered a poor taste. But is it allowed to run a PFS via play by post on other sites and get credit? or does it have to be done here on Paizo's forums? Normally I do play-by-post gaming on RPOL.net for example. I like their interface and setup. They also have a good dice roller baked in.

So if I was for example planning on running We Be Goblins as a core session via pbp, could I do so on rpol?

Also, I assume for handing out chronicles I'd need to fill it out, scan it, then email the chronicle to the player(s) so they can print it off? Or is there a different setup needed to award chronicles?

Off of Paizo is fine, as long as it's relatively easy for people to find your game for purposes of prize support and such.

That's one way to distribute chronicles, and most other options are basically variants on that. You could just fill out the chronicle digitally (using any one of a number of PDF programs), and upload the files to some sort of location (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) that players can access.

Awesome! Okay, now I need to look into some more scenarios and modules I can acquire to run via PbP. I assume it'd be a good idea to advertise here too for any such game?

Okay, just thought of another question. How do I verify a player's chronicles if running a PbP session?

I (and others) have had great success running play-by-post games over at RPG Geek.

They should have them all available electronically for review, e.g. on Dropbox or an image gallery, etc.

Is this actually required in most PbP games? I'm much more familiar with the virtual tabletop world of online games and there GMs that actually ask for that are extremely rare in my experience.

Well, the GM is within his rights to require them (and it's good practice to have them available if requested during the game). He may not ask for them, just as a VoIP/tabletop often won't. But the greater time available for audits might make it more likely.

At the very least I'd want to see the chronicles for anybody's character who isn't just starting out. That way I know about any boons they have access to. If someone's playing an Alchemist for example, you'd better bet your bottom dollar that I'm going to ask to see proof they have the book it's in. Or if they're an unusual race like Kitsune I'll want proof you have a book that race is in. As well as a copy of the relevant pages so I can properly adjudicate your character.

Heck, I'd need proof of ownership and a copy of required pages if someone used most of the additional resources. I personally only have a copy (not pfs legal though) of Advanced Players Guide and Ultimate Magic. I then have PFS legal copies of Occult Adventures and Blood of Angels.

Yeah on Hero Lab I have data packages for most of the books. But not all of them. And that's not really a good way to verify everything since they can make mistakes.

That's reasonable.

This is a lot further than most PBP GMs would go. I'd be very upfront about your expectations when recruiting for your game, so that players aren't caught out by the need to take time scanning in parts of books, taking screenshots of PDF pages etc. part-way through the game.

I'm not going to speculate what you mean by that...

Bear in mind that as a GM you're allowed to use the PRD as a PFS-legal source, so you effectively have online access to almost all the hardcovers to check any options the players are using.

Keep in mind that the PFS rules for running We Be Goblins requires the PCs to use pregens, so your obligation to audit chronicles and sources is kind of minimal.

That actually makes it ideal for running on RPOL, too.
