Plunder and Peril

I am considering playing Plunder & Peril.
It says that

Quote:

Alternatively, you may play the entirety of Plunder &
Peril, afterward receiving credit for playing the sanctioned
portions of the adventure as if you had played a pregenerated
character.

After playing all three chapters, players get 12 XP, 18PP and 26k gold (or 9XP, 15PP , 20k gold + 3 boons).

Can these be applied to the same character, so they could insta-create a level 5, or do they need to split it up and apply each chronicle to a different level 1?

Plunder and Peril has a minimum of three for the first chapter. Also, I believe that the last bonus sheet is only given to a character if he has ALL of the previous sheets.

Sovereign Court

It says you apply them as if playing a pregen. That means you have two options

1) Assign it to a level 1, modifying the rewards as listed in the Guide
2) Assign it to a character of the level the scenario was for. So you could apply one to a level one, but then you have a level 2 and there is no applicable chronicle from this to assign to it. You would not be able to build a new character at Level 5 using these chronicles alone.

At least, that's my reading of it. If anyone has a specific piece of text that disagrees, please say so.

Ah, but the minimum level for the first chapter is there or four with each chapter increasing the min by one. Yes, you can play Plunder and Peril like a section of an Adventure Path, but it is the SECOND chapter.

Sovereign Court

Yes, and that's why in my example two he'd be stuck at Level 2 once he assigned the first chronicle (which would have to be assigned using method 1 because, as you said, the minimum is three)

Dark Archive 1/5

Thanks :)

I kinda suspected that, but hoped otherwise.

Sovereign Court

I actually completely forgot about this module so I'm glad you asked. I needed a path for my first GM baby to 7 anyways, looks like this is my way there from 3... now to get it to 3.

Andrew,

Applying it like a pregen also means that you can assign them to a lower level PC, to be applied as the PC reaches the minimum level for the section's tier.

So, 1st level PC, gets 3 or 4 chronicles to be applied later.

Levels up to 3rd level in some way.
Apply Rum Punch chronicle
If on normal, levels to 4, and applies the Dangerous Waters chronicle.
Again, if on normal, levels to 5, and applies the Black Coral Cove chronicle immediately.
Again, if on normal, levels to 6, and applies the bonus chronicle immediately.
If on normal, ends at level 7.

If applying one or more on slow track, the PC will need additional play at each such level to reach the level of the next chronicle.

Overall, though, you can't apply any of these chronicles to a PC until he is at least 3rd level, unless you dump the gold to 1398 (699 on slow, IIRC), and then it gets difficult to apply all three chronicles to the same PC. Normal would be one per PC, slow would let you get the first two on one PC immediately, but then take several levels before the final two could be applied.

Dark Archive 1/5

Can I apply the XP, PP and GP providing boon from the 4 sheet to a level 1?

If so, would this circumvent the GP reduction, since the gold comes from a boon, not from "Gold earned"?
And I know that this is a cheesy question, and by RAI it should not be allowed. What about RAW? ;)

No, you cant. You only earn the bonus sheet if you apply all three previous sheets to the same character. If you apply the three sheets to two, or three, different lvl ones, none of them can get the bonus sheet.

Sovereign Court

Forgot about assigning the chronicle without gaining the rewards till the proper level, thanks Kinevon.

Glord, no you can't. Once you assign 3 of them you are now Level 2, and the fourth one, while it can be applied, won't give you the rewards until you reach the appropriate level (for the bonus chronicle, Level 6). So you could apply them all, taking the reduced reward for the three main ones, and the fourth wouldn't give you any reward at all till you gain four more levels.

It is not possible to assign all of these to the same character simultaneously, gaining all the rewards at assignment, unless the character is at least Level 3.

Dark Archive 1/5

( Each sheet gives 3 XP, so assigning one would make me lvl3. )

Ok, in that case, I guess I'll just assign them to the char I was playing with.
It would have been a nice way to get a char to lvl 5, though ;)

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate the help.

3XP gets you to level 2, unless you left something out ;)

Are there any other modules that have a bonus chronicle for completing all parts of it?

Dragon's Demand and Wardens of the Reborn Forge both do (though the bonus cert in Wardens only applies if you play it in 'Seeker Arc' mode).

Dragons Demand has a pretty neat bonus chronicle. It has a Tier 2, 4, or 6 option- -which allows it to be slotted wherever it's appropriate (that is, starting at level 1, 2, or 3) to give your PC 4 consecutive 3XP Chronicles.

Dark Archive 1/5

Failed my proof reading check ;)

Dangit, typo iin my post. Wanted to write "lvl2". You wrote assigning 3 of them would make you level 2, I wanted to point out that each sheet awards 3XP.

Maybe I misunderstand Seeker Arcs since I'm new-ish to PFS and have nothing over Level 3, but don't you have to retire your character after running a Seeker Arc? What'd be the point of having a chronicle you could only assign to a retiring character? Or am I mistaken in how the Seeker stuff works.

Sovereign Court

Glord, I is smart, I swears!!! Yes, one of them gets you to two, silly me. So you get to hold onto 3 chronicles after assigning it a level 1, instead of just the bonus one :)

Well, there are sanctioned modules and portions of adventure paths that run as high as level 18 (so, for characters between 17-19). There's even a (single) path that can get a character to level 20.

Nope, there is no forced retirement after a seeker arc. Of course the number of things to play as you go up past twelve drops quite a bit, but they are there.

Sovereign Court

Ah OK. I though you chose between playing whatever you could find past 12, or playing a straight story arc for a level or two with required retirement at the end. Good to know!

You could assign two of them to a first level PC, buy using slow track on the first one, as that would net 1.5 XP instead of 3. Not necessarily the best option, but an option.

On Seeker level play:
After 11th level, there is one 4 part scenario arc or a special play mode on Wardens that are considered Seeker Arcs.

You can also just play Seeker in normal mode, or use another module to get past 12th level.

Once past 12th level, through either arc, you can still play the higher level modules. My Seeker/VC PC is currently level 16...

Is becoming a VC part of a Seeker Arc? I've seen a few people talk about their characters holding the position, and I'm curious.

Yes, it is possible for your PC to gain the Venture Captain title on completion of the Eyes of the Ten arc. It might also offer a discount on purchasing your very own Pathfinder Lodge....
