Sword Trained Tengu

Rules Questions

Does a Tengu's Sword Training make it proficient in all sword-like weapons or only the ones listed under the racial ability? Specifically, can I use a Swordbreaker Dagger without an Exotic Weapon Proficiency?

Sovereign Court

Yes - it works with all sword-like weapons.

The dagger qualifies and it's no more swordlike than the sword breaker.

A couple of related questions:

Can a Sword Trained Tengu wield a Bastard Sword in one hand or does it still need Exotic Weapon Proficiency? Can it use a Sawtooth Sabre as a light weapon in it's off hand or does it still need EWP?

Are Urumi, Temple Swords, Shotels, Rhoka Swords, Falcatas, Shang Gou, Double Bladed Swords, Katana, Double Chicken Sabres, etc. covered by this ability as well?

Grand Lodge

Proficiency with the Bastard Sword, means you can wield it in one hand.

This was answered with the Bastard Sword/Favored Weapon Cleric FAQ.

Linked. You gain proficiency as it is listed in the tables. So if a weapon was instead listed as a martial weapon, but stated you could use it in a new and funky way if you had EWP, you would only gain the martial version. [/unnecessary clarification]

You're both confusing me now. Can a Tengu wield a Bastard Swor or Sawtooth Sabre as though he had EWP or as Martial Weapons?

EWP.

Yes.

I'm sorry, but I'm one of those people that has a difficult time with things like this where a multiple choice question is answered with yes...It doesn't help my brain comprehend anything, and I may even be under the misconception that you're doing this on purpose.

How is it listed in the equipment tables? That's the type of proficiency you get.

They are both listed as Exotic One Handed Weapons, so you can use them as if you had exotic weapon proficiency.

more unnecessary stuff that won't help:
BBT is also absolutely right, as if you can use it as an exotic weapon you can also use it as the martial weapon as the exotic version doesn't exclude choosing to wield a bastard sword in 2 hands or not taking advantage of the sabres 'light handedness'

You are considered to have Exotic Weapon, Martial Weapon Proficiency, and Simple Weapon Proficiency, with all Swords, and Sword-like weapons.

I am not sure I can make that any clearer.

Do you understand now?

Please do not take my post as being condescending. Not my intent.

Yeah, I've got it, thanks. And sorry if I sounded snippy. It's just that things like that are ridiculously confusing.

"Are you an 'A' or a 'B'?"
"Yes."

Argh.

Its actually my favorite way to answer those questions if applicable. It basically means "of the options presented, both are actually true."

So if i were to run away from a fight, and the guy taunts me with "are you a man or a coward?" I would answer with yes.

But then again i have an odd sense of humor.

That actually had me shoot a little coffee out my nose.

I've had GMs try to pull that on me in the past.

My answer is "Yes, but are you going to come chase after me to test your theory?"
