Stopping Mirror Dodge

Rules Questions

We had some considerable disagreement at our table during the our Wrath of the Righteous session with regards to what would and would not stop the mythic path ability Mirror Dodge:

Mirror Dodge (Su):
When hit by a melee or ranged attack, you can expend one use of mythic power as an immediate action to replace yourself with an illusory duplicate and teleport to any open square within 30 feet of your current position. You take no damage from this attack, which instead destroys your illusory duplicate (similar to mirror image). Using this ability requires a line of effect to the teleportation target square.

Specifically, there was some disagreement about two effects: the spell Dimensional Anchor and the Phase Locking weapon enchantment.

Dimensional Anchor:

School abjuration; Level cleric 4, sorcerer/wizard 4

Casting Time 1 standard action

Components V, S

Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)

Effect ray

Duration 1 min./level

Saving Throw none; Spell Resistance yes (object)

A green ray springs from your hand. You must make a ranged touch attack to hit the target. Any creature or object struck by the ray is covered with a shimmering emerald field that completely blocks extradimensional travel. Forms of movement barred by a dimensional anchor include astral projection, blink, dimension door, ethereal jaunt, etherealness, gate, maze, plane shift, shadow walk, teleport, and similar spell-like abilities. The spell also prevents the use of a gate or teleportation circle for the duration of the spell.

A dimensional anchor does not interfere with the movement of creatures already in ethereal or astral form when the spell is cast, nor does it block extradimensional perception or attack forms. Also, dimensional anchor does not prevent summoned creatures from disappearing at the end of a summoning spell.

Phase Locking:

Price +2 bonus
Aura moderate abjuration; CL 7th; Weight —
DESCRIPTION

A phase locking weapon interferes with dimensional travel. A creature damaged by a phase locking weapon is affected as though by the dimensional anchor spell for 1 round.
CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Magic Arms and Armor, dimensional anchor; Cost +2 bonus

Both ultimately require an attack roll to take effect, which seems to imply they can be avoided with Mirror Dodge. However, Mirror Dodge only talks about damage and not secondary effects, which was the cause of the disagreement. Some of my players were arguing that as it only discusses damage that secondary effects like Dimensional Anchor will still take effect.

I do note that the Phase Locking enchantment only takes effect when things are actually damaged by a weapon with it, however.

I'd appreciate any insights people can offer.

Mirror Dodge is really strong. I would argue that both Dim Anchor and Phase locking could not be applied on a dodged attack. The only thing that would work would be waiting for mythic points to be completely expended or a Dimensional Lock spell.

...or soaking their immediate action somehow first.

Re: the actual question, if Mirror Dodge is used against DA or PL attacks, there is no lock effect against teleporting, etc. If they're hit with those abilities for real, they can't Mirror Dodge until the effect is gone. What is inelegantly stated here is that the target of the DA or PL attack is replaced with an illusion. Treat the illusion as the actual target for all effects of the spell or attack in question.

Or Forbiddance or Hallow/Unhallow + Dimensional Anchor

Or any AoE with sufficient area to hit both locations, i.e. anything with a 30ft radius or greater.

Edit: Hrrmph, an AoE wouldn't trigger the Mirror Dodge unless it was a Ranged Touch attack of some sort though (i.e. something like Meteor Swarm).

It's pretty clear that Mirror Dodge relocates you before the results of the attack are applied. That's why the image is destroyed by damage. It's kind of a stretch to assume that weapon that deals damage plus phase locking would somehow apply the phase locking first, then the damage.

Point is that by the time the damage from an attack is applied, you're not there anymore for it to apply to you. Same would apply to rider effects.

Yes, that specific edge-condition of rider effects isn't explicitly defined, but the order of events are.
