Improved Snap Shot and Whirlwind Attack?

Tonight while at a PFS game, I overheard a player at another table bragging about combining Improved Snap Shot and Whirlwind Attack to shoot everyone within 15 feet.

I know the recent errata shortened the range, but other than that, does this combo actually work? I was skeptical, thinking that the snap shot feats only apply to attacks of opportunity, and not things like Whirlwind Attack, but when I asked the player in question about it, he insisted that Snap Shot's verbiage clearly stated that you threaten the square around you, while Whirlwind Attack stated that you can attack anyone within your threatened squares.

So, is it true? Is this a valid combo?

Whirlwind Attack only works with melee attacks.

da rules wrote:

You can strike out at every foe within reach.

Prerequisites: Dex 13, Int 13, Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, base attack bonus +4.

Benefit: When you use the full-attack action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at your highest base attack bonus against each opponent within reach. You must make a separate attack roll against each opponent.

When you use the Whirlwind Attack feat, you also forfeit any bonus or extra attacks granted by other feats, spells, or abilities.

Even if you could combo it, by no means is it broken. For one, you need to have Combat Expertise, Dodge, Mobility, and Spring Attack first. Not only is that 4 feats, but it's 4 feats most people would avoid. So that's about 5 feats worth of cost before the combo. Then there's the Improved Snap Shot chain, which is another 4 feats. Probably 5 so you can get Precise Shot to fire in close range. So 10 total. Then to make it usable in close range, that's one or two more feats.

This sort of thing would be better done with a whip or even witch hair.

Whirlwind Attack:

Threatening has zero interactions with Whirlwind attack. You can whirlwind with a whip even if you don't threaten with it.

Not unless he has like a gunblade.
which isn't a thing I think so I don't think that actually works.

I mean he could have a hand crossbow in one hand threatening 10ft. and a knife in the other to whirl with,. but one doesn't help with the other as near as I can tell. Due to the "within reach" clause.

Maybe if he had a whip.. but again that has nothing to do with the ranged weapon..

Calth is correct, Whirlwind attack is melee only, snap shot does not change that.
