Caster level on items that cast a spell

Rules Questions

So i think ive been doing this wrong for years. Like real wrong.

So for an item like Celestial Armor that gives you fly. What is the CL that is used when using the fly ability? (BONUS QUESTION: Can the fly duration be split up by minutes? Im 99% sure it cant but just a question)

What about wands? Do you use the minimum caster level needed to cast the spell? Do you use character level as CL?

These are newb questions but for some reason it doesnt sync in my head.

Thanks guys,

You use the caster level of the item. In most cases, the items caster level is the minimum necessary to cast the spell.

The only exception is for staffs. You can use the users caster level in place of the staffs if it is higher.

Celestial Armor has a listed caster level of 5th. And no, you can't split up the duration unless it specifically says you can (like boots of speed).

Note that when you make your own magical items, you can set the caster level to be whatever you want as long as it is at least the minimum caster level to cast the spell. For example, a normal wand of Fireball is CL 5 because that is the minimum CL to cast Fireball (for wizards, at least) which means that it casts a 5d6 Fireball when used, but anybody who makes a wand of Fireball could set the CL to any value of 5 or higher - setting it to CL 10 means it casts a 10d6 Fireball when used.

Doing this raises the cost of the item, of course, since CL is part of the formula for pricing magical items.

This also means that items found in dungeons (or wherever adventurers go) might not always be minimum CL; your GM could place items that some NPC built to be above the minimum too.

awesome. Thanks guys. You rule.

If in PFS, wants, scrolls, and potions are only available at minimum caster level. You may find higher CL ones on chronicle sheets tho.
