Advice

Hello everyone, I'm a brand new player to Pathfinder, but I have played 3.5 in the past. I'm looking to build an offensive spell casting cleric that is great at buffing allies and debuffing enemies. If anyone has a build for me to peak at or can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you
Greg

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Use the evangelist Archetype.

Avoid every and all channel feats. Pretend this ability does not exist.

You can focus on enchantment magics with spell focus and persistent meta magics. Abuse command and suggestion.

Or you could focus on summoning with augmented summoning and scared summoning. Drop a few bodies and begin the performance. Then watch the army tear it up. Grab heroism domain for extra effect or feather domain and boon companion feat to get a full level animal companion.

There are lots of options.

You very first buy is a wand of cure light wounds. Ask for party to help the cost.

The Exchange

That, can do. I would approach it differently from Fruian though, instead use channel offensively (sorry, due to evangelist - your schtick only functions at lv 3).

Aasimar Evangelist cleric of Horus

Str 10, dex 10, Con 14, Wis 16, Cha 18

Traits: Reactionary, Sacred Conduit

Variant channel - rulership for daze, select to channel negative energy -if anything gets hit by your channel they have to make a will save that is (10+1/2(cleric level) + your cha mod (currently 4)), or be dazed for 1 round, and take no action on that round. This daze is NOT a mind affecting effect.

Channel energy has a range of 30 ft burst centered around you, you can exclude up to 4 targets from your channel with selective channel.

You have 7 uses of that dazing channel per day.

Domain: Feather

Lv 1 feat: Scion of war (use cha for init modifier)
Lv 3 feat: Selective channel
Lv 5 feat: Boon Companion
Lv 7 feat: Versatile channeling (now your daze works against undead)
Lv 9 feat: Improved channel
Lv 11 feat: Uh anything you like really, though LN doesn't have much to sacred summon, probably improved init.

Fruian, I find suggestion/command a little limiting as it is language dependent, and as a cleric you don't have that many skill points for linguistics. Granted you could cast tongues on yourself everyday, but it only lasts 10 min/lv (rods of extend are your friend) and not everything even has a language - the last time I looked, Mrs Chompy the T-rex didn't.

I typically use tongues.

And there is hardly a single win button that works on 100% of enemies you encounter. For the things I can't control I have to offer up the spotlight to the other 3+ PCs playing with me.

Tho Hang over cleric is powerful. Very powerful and the only build worth channel feats on a cleric.

If the OP goes with that build I recommend divine interference be your 11th level feat. It is the typical go to feat at 11th level.

We can't recommend an aasimar to a brand new PFS player. That race is not available in PFS outside of a boon, and those boons are hard to get.

Human will work fine for an evangelist hangover cleric, though. Or any other cleric build that you choose to go with.

:)

Hmm

Evangelist is strong for buffs. It's essentially a bard with 9 level divine spell casting.

From what I can read of it, it does require good CHA to pull off.

No matter.

Humans rule:
10 14 14 10 16 10

You still have a racial bonus to put somewhere, WIS is ideal for added spellcasting.

1st level feats to look at are Extra Performance and Lingering Performance.

I can recommend a large number of domains, you will rarely find one better for support clerics than Healing Domain. It also guarantees that your Cure spells are prepared at least once, as you cannot cast them spontaneously.

Good metamagics to look at are Heighten Spell, Extend Spell, and the Persistent spell mentioned earlier.

I didn't mention race...didn't know if it was for PFS or Homebrew.

But My vote if for a home game is a Grippli. =) Frog People...take Agile tongue....deliver touch spells at 10 ft away.
Net proficiency for easy access to the Entangled condition as a mundane Debuff. Climb speed...Cleric Fall...hard..this keeps them from falling Physically. They get a +4 Stealth bonus (on top of being small) in Marsh, Swamp, and forests.

Silver Crusade

He never said this was for PFS.

Personally, I've had fun with my "bad touch" pirate cleric. He's more of a debuffer than damage dealer on the front line, using the 1st level Trickery domain power as much as AC to avoid getting hit. Needless to say, stuff like Combat Casting, Focused Mind, and Uncanny Concentration to boost his ability to cast defensively are absolutely necessary, since he's pretty much casting on the front line every round.

If you really want to get good mileage out of the cleric you should go unaligned IMO...

Slaps forehead.

Right. He never said PFS. D'oh! Why did I think this one was PFS? Never mind!

Thank you for all the replies everyone. I have a good grasp of the character I want to play now.
