This is a thread for the real world's true dumbs.

The Mail app doesn't tell you that you have the wrong password until you finish setting it up and entering the password in three times and then you lock your inbox and then you have to flail around at the Sys Admin (thanks, Lissa!) to unlock it and then you find a sticky with the right password with no label that it's even for the account and then you realize why do you have so many stickies and what is even happening to this desk and then you accidentally post this post in a similar thread in the RPG General Discussion because you thought it was an Off-Topic thread because that thread there sounded like the title would have totally been there and then you have to remove your post because omg the embarrassment.

D:

...

One of those days, huh?

I feel your pain.

It doesn't tell you that your entered the wrong password?

I heard so much about how supposedly Macs are more user friendly than windows... :P

I would complain more about the stupid little things that bug me, but most of them seem to suspiciously orbit around me, not like ioun stones, but more like a solar system. While others might take this as evidence that somehow the stupid things and I are linked, and upon taking a moment of self-reflection to choose a more constructive path, I am instead taking the opposite approach... I will now feed stellar matter to my ego until it collapses into a black hole, thus crushing the small dumb things in its enormous gravitational power.

I feel better now. (Praise Sara Marie!)

Heh. I walked into our IT department the other day, dropped my company iPhone on the desk, and announced, "I know you guys aren't supposed to help me with this, and that I'm supposed to have a HelpDesk ticket or something (which I don't), but if you can't make this goddam thing work right now I'm going to take a hammer to it."

Which is when I would hand you a lovely 44oz dead blow mallet and some safety glasses.

In the past month I have had to teach four separate bartenders how to make a true daiquiri (as opposed to a frozen one).

Real life has ridiculously low stats. I have a high INT class, but i'm pretty sure I have a 11 at best.

Apparently the rules call for me to roll fortitude against a headache frequently.

This happens constantly, for no apparent reason. Stupidest rule ever.

Ordering something from the corporate warehouse with no blocks on it. The next day receiving a email that there was a block to call tech line for verification of ordering the part. Re-order the part with tech line number get told its now back ordered and you have a Special parts case on it. A week later find out your order was canceled because there was no tech case on it (which was provided in the ordering email) so you have to call tech line and reorder to get put on the back of the wait list again.

Back when I was processing incoming insurance applications for a living:

Customer receives insurance application.
Customer sends application back.
I get application in processign queue: it has no signature, but has a hand-written note across the front stating that they want a rate quote and won't sign until they get said rate quote.
Application already contains pre-printed rate quotes.
Customer's hand-written note is located such that in order to write it, customer had to physically touch the very rate quote they're requesting.

Yesterday at work, I saw an open manhole with a sign next to it that said "No Thoroughfare."

When a woman calls our shop for a quote, then her significant male figure (father/dad/husband/etc.) calls for the same quote because I must have jacked the price up because women don't know about cars.

A while back, my apartment complex installed new front doors. This included adding a big green button that says "Push to Exit". Taped to the new button was a piece of paper saying "You Do Not Need to Push to Exit".

I was at a local Maverick's (a sort of seven eleven for us Idahoans) the other day and saw a sign that was advertising bottled tea drinks as $1.89 each or 2 for $4

There's a church in Lena, Illinois that has No Parking signs that say "Thou shalt not park here" always wanted to take one but my friend was dating the sheriff's daughter so he never let me:-)

Sonic is notorious for that down here. Mozzarella sticks 2 for $.99 4 for $2.99 8 for $7.99. They have no issue with your ordering 10 of the 2 packs if you want. Pricing just doesn't add up.

In all fairness, that's not all that uncommon an occurrence.

I believe those buttons are required by code for all magnetic locking systems, even if most are controlled by motion sensors.

I believe it does, but if you have never dealt with us before but are coming to us because we are highly recommended then give me the benefit of the doubt. I'm more than happy to show anyone our company list price for retail and our labor guide if they want, but it's insulting to just assume I'm gonna try to cheat someone.

[REDACTED]: "No, of course I wouldn't try to say that you're wrong about what your experiences have been! I'm just saying that it's been Y, not X."

Removed a series of posts. Gun debates have not faired well on our site and paizo.com probably isn't the best venue for that discussion. Let's keep this one light hearted, please!

This morning's stupid: freaking out over the check engine light when really my car was trying to tell me the gas cap was loose D:

Happens way more than you think. I see at least 2 of those a week.

You mean it wasn't Z I could have sworn based on your post about that character was Z.

My Dad always had a strip of electric tape over the check engine light "I can't afford to deal with that shit this week" he'd say every week:-D

The most annoying thing is when you have to go to the shop to reset the damn thing even though you know it's the gas cap and you've long ago put it back on.

I agree thankfully the newer ones do reset "eventually" but if that's all you have going on we typically won't charge to reset it.

Oh, that's a relief. Our manual indicates (and this is a paraphrase) "should turn off after a few trips" and that we should finish off this tank before truly worrying. I'm glad I've kept it around and in the car, that was a bit alarming pre-coffee.

Liberty's Edge

I know my gas cap has a big warning on it about only tightening to one click or you'll trigger the light. I assume it's so you don't damage the bladder.

It's emissions issues. If its not properly tightened fumes can escape that aren't compliant with whats supposed to be in the air. So the car is designed to warn you that its not tightened because their wasn't a more efficient way to prevent an evap leak.

Liberty's Edge

I got that part

Mine warns against over tightening.

I suspect this is going to drive me to the "Apologize to Chris" thread, but here are some common ones in my neighborhood:

  • Joggers running in the street, especially after dark
  • Said joggers and other pedestrians crossing against red lights with traffic coming, especially in dark clothing at night
  • Bicyclists riding in parallel while traffic backs up behind them. Isn't bicycling dangerous enough without further infuriating drivers?
  • Bicyclists who don't wear helmets. In 40+ years and tens of thousands of miles of commuting by bicycle, my mother and I have broken "only" 3. That's 3 skull fractures our family didn't have to suffer through
