more then one familiar....

Rules Questions

can you have more then one Familiar. i ask because as a an alchemist (Homunculist) you get a Homunculist as a familiar but you can also pick up tumor familiar. so can you have two familiars?

you cant have more than 1 familiar !

If you have levels from more than one class that grant a familiar, those levels stack to determine the strength of your single familiar.

You CAN have your own army ... animal companion, familiar, eidolon, cohort, plus summoned creatures ...

On my blog, I have a PrC that gives up spell casting in order to advance more than one companion. That's called The Whisperer, and you can find it here. I have a revised version in my free prestige class splat book.

so actually we can have more than 1 familiar?

my whole life is lie D:

No, you can't. You answered the question correctly.

Cayzle is talking about a home brew PrC in the Paizo Rules Forum. Which doesn't comply nor apply to Pathfinder Rules according to Paizo, the creator/publisher.

The rules aren't really clear on what happens when you gain incompatible familiars from different classes.

For example, how would you 'combine' a Leshy Warden Leshy familiar with an Eyebiter Eyeball familiar for a character who had levels in both classes? I think the simplest solution is that levels stack, but then you have to choose one or the other. You could have an eyeball familiar at the combined level from the two classes... but then the only way to get the Leshy familiar would be if the eyeball familiar died or was dismissed.

Thus, you might have ACCESS to more than one familiar, but you can only have one active at a time.

This is a solid and balanced interpretation of an obscure collection of rules.

DHq endorsed!

Don't forget phantoms. It is technically possible to have one of each 'pet type' at maximum level on a single character;

Spiritualist 20 = 20th level phantom
Animal Ally + Boon Companion = 20th level animal companion
Eldritch Heritage (Arcane) + Robe of Arcane Heritage = 20th level familiar
VMC Summoner = 20th level eidolon (nerfed)
Leadership = 18th level cohort

Can an Animal Companion or Mount also be a Familiar?

An Animal Companion can be a Mount: levels in Druid and Cavalier would stack.

Is there a configuration of Familiar such that your Familiar can also be an Animal companion or Mount, allowing you to apply your levels in Wizard to the same animal you apply your levels in Druid to?

The answer used to be clearly no: Animal Companions were big. Familiars are small. But what if you had a Halfling Eldritch Guardian with a Mauler Familiar? Growing to Medium Size, large enough for a Halfling to ride, the Halfling then takes a level in Cavalier. What then? Can the Halfling choose his Dinosaur Familiar as his Mount?

An animal companion cannot also function as a familiar.

You need a special ability to combine them such as the shaman Mammoth spirit that allows your spirit animal (essentially a familiar) to act as an animal companion - at 16th level mind.

Ah, well, just a thought.
